LMS 45627 Hammers through Oxenholme at 47mph on the Cumbrian Mountain Express 15/7/23.

LMS 45627 Sierra Leone ( 45699 Galatea in disguise ) would be at the helm of the latest Cumbrian Mountain Express from Crewe to Carlisle via the West Coast Mainline over Shap .45627 is seen Hammering through Oxenholme station in full cry . The afternoon return leg would see 45627 pass the steam dreams tour the Settle & Carlisle with 45231 at the helm so we decided they could possibly pass at Birkett Common but with the CME leaving Carlisle 42 minutes late 45231 is seen drifting towards Kirkby Stephen . 45627 would arrive a good while later battling a 20mph head wind . .Thanks to Nige for the lift and the company today.Glad we didn’t try Crosby Garrett as it looked horrendous wet weather conditions wise from our location.

While some will strongly disagree with me, I think steam-train excursions look better in bad weather. The less-tan-perfect conditions add authenticity to the scene. Wonderful videography!!

Thanks John , to be honest I prefer wet weather as it’s certainly better to film in but rain on the lens can be annoying.

Steve, With two tours passing in opposite directions it's interesting to try to predict the location of that unique passing shot but as we all know it rarely works out. However what you captured was excellent. Regards, John

Thanks John , they were actually going to pass around Crosby Garrett but with both tours running late we changed plans which in a way was good as it was hammering it down at Crosby Garrett ☔️☔️

Some good video pictures in less than ideal weather. The Jubilees are quite handsome engines and it's good to see one in its home environment. I suppose I'm not alone in deploring the practice of steam locomotives operators of dressing their engines up as other members of the class. I've never really seen the point of this and I think it very fake. But I realise the LMS themselves did this sort of identity swap in 1939 when 6229 Duchess of Hamilton masqueraded as 6220 Coronation to visit the World's Fair in New York.
