Today we present a live range video of a test done with an LMT owner of our barrel swap on the Monolithic Rail Platform, or MRP upper receiver. This shooter was able to engage a 1.5 MOA target at 200 yds before and after removing the barrel from the upper receiver. Shooters should see less than 1 MOA of shift on their point of impact when pulling and reinstalling the same barrel. This is important for shooters utilizing multiple calibers on the same frame while keeping data on holds for the individual barrels.
The weapon in the test is a 20" MARS-H in 6.5CM with the MLOK SOCOM 15.5" upper. Ammo used is Hornady 140gr ELD-Match. A huge thanks to the shooter who was a local from the CANCON event in Georgia, 2022.

Good stuff. I, as others, have found that pointing the barrel to the sky, when installing a barrel helps to seat it.

The problem with the MLOK handguard being too narrow to allow barrel removal when ANYTHING is attached via those MLOK slots is why I like my LM8 slick sided uppers. Hopefully LMT will one day correct this mistake.

Though its not convenient, the hinderance of the MLOK hardware impeding the barrel removal, isnt a huge deal. Now give me a second, and let me explain this. Most of your MLOK mounted accessories are going to be non sensitive. This means they are likely grip stops or flashlights that will not require rezeroing. Additionally, once timed, MLOK hardware is only a quarter turn to release. Magpul designed this to be generally QD for users. This all does add up, but is paled in comparison to the time it takes to install a traditional barrel with a torque wrench, timing of the barrel barrel nut, and removal/installation of a gas block. One additional detail is that with properly timed MLOK hard ware, a user can grind down the excess screw and facilitate barrel removal at least one side of rails installed.

@@lmtdefense3927 but it was remedied on that new mlok 5.56 upper that does away with the qd that new socom joint. Would have been neat to do that to the .308 as well

Any tips on how to get the barrel assembly out easily? Every time I change my barrel I need to put a wooden dowel into the chamber and pound it out with a hammer. As such I don't see it being easily field changeable.

Do you grease the barrel extension every time you swap it?

@@MellowFellowOfYellow I don't, not a bad idea though. Based on all the informationals I've read they don't recommend this or advise it. The best I can find is "it'll wear in over time" but I don't see myself doing a hundred barrel swaps lol. Thanks for the suggestion!

Did you guys change the cuts on the receiver on the area above where the barrel retention screws are mounted? I don't remember there being that many relief cuts for weight reduction there. I recall just the two on the 3 and 9.

Yeah, that's new I guess. They got a retention cable on the forward bolt as well. Maybe that's so Joe can do the demo's out in the field and not drop it.

That’s a MRGG-A upper and they had to drop the weight even further from the original RFP. So new barrel profiles and relief cuts

What is locking the barrel in place to the receiver?

Two things are providing retention to the barrel. The first is the front locking screw the interfaces with a groove cut into the barrel extension. The second is 360 degrees of clamping pressure from the receiver itself. It is a tried and true design with over 20 years of combat service life.
