This, so far is one of my favorite calibers. Extremely underrated and accurate. Hope this helps. Also anyone loading is responsible for the actions they do with their ammo and/ or firearms. Thanks for watching!

Do you have any recommendations for round nosed bullets? I've got a Mauser carbine with the old style sights which aren't calibrated for spitzers. Hornady makes a .312 round nose I believe.

Which model of Mauser is it? That really helps

@@bobrobert1123 you can use spritzer bullets or round or even cast. I've used cast round or my 1909 Argentine and it actually like them pretty well

@@kiltedgunsmith the 1891, when first issued, fired round bullets. The sights are calibrated for these. In 1910 the sights were upgraded to those calibrated for spitzer bullets. My carbine does not have the later sights and as such my balistics are pretty whacky using PPU semi jacket soft points. Rounds are hitting nearly 2 feet high. I guess the question im asking is what bullets (cast or jacketed), and what load would best replicate the original pre-1910 military load.

@@bobrobert1123 ah I gotcha, thanks for clarifying. So ppu someone's will load a little higher charge then the old ammo would. So I would recommend cast bullets but you can use jacketed. You would want about 150-165gr range. And for powder charge would be recommended a little lite or low. A good base or starting load would work. Somewhere around 38-42 grains powder depending on what your using and burn rate. With cast you want a medium to slow burn rate preferably slow. I suggest doing a working ladder.a few rounds at one charge then a few at a grain or half grain increments until you find the sweet spot. Keep in mind to look out for pressure signs, bulging and outrigger back out. If you see those there an indicator of to much charge.

Have you checked Muzzle velocity and what's the accuracy ?
@kiltedgunsmith Жыл бұрын
Accuracy was great and also could aim dead center 300m and got a steel plate. Velocity I don't have a chronograph
