My Pop introduced me to this one word and I will never forget it, I am 70 years old now and my Pop is long gone. Thanks for that one Pop. The word is “tough”. Look it up. “Strong and durable; not easily broken or cut, not brittle or tender.” “Capable of great endurance; sturdy; hardy.” This to me is the very definition of being a man. Respect for your fellow creatures and never be afraid to call a lier a lier to there face. Lying I consider being a major breach in any interaction with humans. Lie to me once we are done.

Also, I've been going back and watching some of your older videos and came across one where you talked about turning your life around and getting off drugs and alcohol. Proud to say that we have that in common. January 2nd will be 12 years for me without one drop of alcohol or any drugs. God bless, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! I will keep watching!!

Good morning to ya Billy Ray.I thought I would share a wood trick my Uncle Rondell taught me when I was 16. Always stack your wood bark side up to shed the water when it rains and your wood will be dry enough for the fire. That's the same day he tought me the flick. Thanks Uncle Rondell,I will never forget you. RIP 😔

I wanted to take a minute to thank you for your chain sharpening video's. The difference is night and day the way my saws cut through a piece of wood. I've tried every gizmo and gadget and came to the realization that they are mostly a crutch and the lowly file does the best job. Once I spent the time to get a good straight stroke and know what to look for, WOW! Chunks are flying. I have several saws, some are cheep home owner saws and some pro grade, and they are all awesome tools to get the job done now. Thanks again!

Interesting how regionally names for tools vary. In Maine my grampa used 2 different pulp hooks. The first was called a birch hook. It was made from round stock was very sharp. They used them to toss white birch for the tooth pick mill. The big risk was the hook diving into a punky heart wood and wouldnt let go on the toss. The other pulp hook was usually made from flat stock ground to a point on the end. I have one of each that he passed down to me. Kinda cool!

Pickaroon is awesome for rolling logs over so u can finish cutting thru. He'll I use it to gather brush n make brush pile. They work good to just grab a big log n drag it closer to trailer to split

After I saw your first video showcasing pulp hooks for firewood, I searched Amazon and found picaroons. Then I was confused about which to buy and searched a hundred videos only to find your comparison video on the two in the end lol. Pulp hooks it is haha thanks!!
@bennorman1063 жыл бұрын
I find a pickaroon pretty handy rolling logs on a firewood pile or dragging heavy pieces back so you have room to cut again. Also handy if your picking firewood in the woods in some brush. Grandpa would always grind the tip like a sharp hook. Sticks better on hardwood. Nice for standing big pieces on end for splitting. Lots of different tools for different applications. A day on the firewood pile is a good day. Enjoy the content on your videos.

I've stared making my own wood. I'm looking for picking tool for me. I think that hook supoused to be longer. To reach split and stay higher. I think you are right. Hook looks better and I had the same thoughts when seller show me in store. Now crazy stuff. I feel like I have been using this tool a lot:) like axe. I grab it as a teenager and first hit and I felt the same. Father was proud of me when he saw that after few hours of work I was like like a pro. Proud of my father was more courious than my abilities;]

I agree the hook wins from ground to truck, I will say if you have a extra step like a low trailer or wheel barrow you can pickeroon into that without having to two hand it and then handbomb into a truck, but do what works for you is the best advice. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Thanks for your videos. I just watched this one and really enjoyed it. I don't know if it would make any difference but the point on your pickaroon is very straight. The hookaroon should a curved point. It could make a difference. Using either the pickaroon or hookaroon will still be slower than just using your hands. They really seem more useful for bringing things in the front on the truck bed to the rear of the bed. I really liked the way the pulp hook worked for you. That was the first time I've seen one used. Thanks for sharing it. Thanks again for your videos.

I burn 12 cords a year of hickory mostly. All cut and split by hand. I have a dump bed insert in my f350. I’ll never be without one again. I cut/split everything in the woods and I use my old Honda 200 atc with a yard cart to get the wood to my truck. Works awesome
@jstevenanderson92272 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy over the last 25 years i have tried both the pickeroon and the log hook and i much prefer the pickeroon unlike you I don't mind stooping. I also noticed that when you load logs into the truck most times you use both hands, so not a great advantage you can get the pickeroon with an 18inch shaft, worth trying, 5 years ago i was involved in accident which broke my right femur in 4or5 places and completely smashed my hip i was 11hours on the operating table and i am lucky to be alive never mind still have a full set of limbs but it has been a long hard painful road back ,so I like to try to keep active we burn about 20tons of logs per year so it's hard going. I am 64 years old so it's not getting any easier, this was not to be a criticism of your choice of tool we each have our own ideas, keep making the posts i love them take care.
