@@shanemallinson1879 Yeah, but I think he is more than clear that sometimes less is more... in my opinion that is precisely the axis of his composition, because for that controlled side to be perceived as a controlled side, the uncontrolled side must also exist... that swing between soft and rough, melancholic and powerful... is what makes it sound so good... so, he knows it... and he takes advantage of it :)

The concept for ‘Is It Really You?’ stemmed from an anonymous short story we had stumbled across long before the initial process for the record had begun. The band Loathe has said of this song: The basis revolves around a recurring dream which takes place in an idyllic setting of relevance, surrounded by passersby. You exist within the dream, night after night - until a change occurs, from the crowd a voice softly asks “Is it really you?”. The phrase struck such a chord within us that we held onto it for almost a year before it realized itself.

This is so surreal in rehab 2 years ago I had 3 or 4 dreams back to back about someone I'd never met she was literally the most beautiful human I'd ever imagined could exist I thought it was only a dream well fast forward awhile and someone new starts at work I hear about her all the time but hadn't met her yet I'd only worked with her brother afew times well awhile later we finally meet and it's literally her the woman from my dreams everything was exactly the same the hair color the piercings even the tattoos and her smile that lit my soul from the moment I saw it well turns out she has severe bpd as do I and every person that isn't family has left in her life I have this overwhelming urge to be the one person that stays no matter what but we go through the bpd relationship cycle of breaking up and getting back together before our last break up I found this song but hadn't seen this comment I showed it to her and said if you can put up with me long enough and we get married I want this to be our first dance at our wedding well we end up breaking up again and I find this comment I had no idea that it was about that it almost feels cruel in a way for the universe to align our paths in such a way and fir this particular song to make such an impact on both of us and it feature my fav band who's songs iv sang fir her and played for her throughout our time together I feel there's a sort of sick irony there but like I said iv felt the overwhelming urge to not give up on all of it to fight as hard as I can for it thank you fir leaving this comment it helped me in a way just thought it was a crazy coincidence I'd share

In late August of 2018, I found out that a dear friend of mine from middle school had passed away earlier that year, in April. He had taken his own life. He was fifteen. Oftentimes, I'm asked by friends who have also lost loved ones, "When will it stop hurting?" and my answer is, while a bit grim, always the same. The truth is, it doesn't. The hurt may ebb and flow atimes, but in truth, the grief process never ends. It's not a five step program that you can just get through and move on with your life. Once you start grieving, you never really stop. But you do learn to live with the grief and the hurt, and that empty hole in your chest that was carved out the day you lost them. And some days are better than others. But then again, some days are worse than others. It's been a little over four years now since he passed, but I still see him. Occasionally, when I'm out in public, I'll swear to every God above that I saw him, if only for a moment. And some nights, I have those very vivid dreams that he's still alive, that his death was all just a cruel joke. Those are the dreams that, when I wake up from them, my heart shatters just like it did the day I found out. But in those dreams, I always ask the same thing, one simple question: "Is it really you?"

Happening upon this song is so surreal for me. I JUST truly discovered Loathe and they have earned a spot up at my all time favorite bands. But same with Sleep Token. The fact I got SUPER high and basically had this strange euphoric spiritual experience while listening to them both back and forth, and this song meaning something special to me, I can't.
