Just came back from a week on Mount Desert Island, was a good time. Man was it foggy last week, crazy how many pots are out there. It is an impressive fishery. Glad you shared this I always wanted to see what it was like lobstering.

Cutler Maine . I was hunting up by there about 30 years ago with a fellow that grew up in jonesport . He said we had to go get some cutler clams . We got a big crate from a older lady and they were the biggest steamer clams I ever had in my life. They were delicious. Do they still get those up that way . I remember the lady saying it was because the tides were so big that they had to wait for a really low tide to get them. I’d love to buy some of those again.

The wife just bought two 1lb Maine hardshell lobsters for $10 apiece in Oklahoma, which led me to wonder why lobsters are so cheap. Are the Maine lobstermen doing ok? Are they making a decent wage? Is there an over fishing, etc? Ive found out 2 things in the last 2 days: Lobstermen are REALLY the backbone behind conservation, meaning there are good lobster numbers because of self regulation (mostly through size limits and designed trap ineffeciencies). And 2, the buyers are becoming "Walmart" type corporations. Super buyers that are doing all the buying and in general keeping the fisherman from getting their fair share. The reason for the low price is the success the fishermen have had in the past 20 years at sustaining the lobsters, and they are therefore plentiful this year.

About as slow as you can possibly haul. South of maine we use 35-42ft boats with open sterns and 10-30pot trawls enable us to haul 3-4 hundred traps in an 8hr day.increase profits cover more ground spend less fuel🤷in theory

Great video! Some of those traps have served you well considering the number of trap tags/seals on them...

I know about taping. Did Longusters off Key West for 2 years in 64 65 a while back with a friend that had a good size trap line. He had me bate the traps. In the morning it went well. BUT BY 10 AM THE FISH HEADS BECAME UNFROZEN AND DIDN'T SMELL VERY GOOD. cough gag. UGH.. Good luck and have fun. I do have family in Bangor Maine.

Nice Video. A lot of lobster out there and a nice size of lobster. How many traps do you have on a commercial license? Why does your trap have 3 sections? What is the use of the middle section?
