Cutler Maine . I was hunting up by there about 30 years ago with a fellow that grew up in jonesport . He said we had to go get some cutler clams . We got a big crate from a older lady and they were the biggest steamer clams I ever had in my life. They were delicious. Do they still get those up that way . I remember the lady saying it was because the tides were so big that they had to wait for a really low tide to get them. I’d love to buy some of those again.

About as slow as you can possibly haul. South of maine we use 35-42ft boats with open sterns and 10-30pot trawls enable us to haul 3-4 hundred traps in an 8hr day.increase profits cover more ground spend less fuel🤷in theory

V notch.!! You can't take a notched bug. Gotta let the eggers go. If your not already lobstering you never gonna be nuttin but a stern man. Try buying you own boat and traps. You'll last about a month. ALL lobstermen think they own the ocean and will cut you off every time they see one of you trawls. The don't even like the little ten pot recreational guys. They get their 800 pots but you can't have ten. The dirty bastards. They do however do a great job of managing the fisheries. They don't have to notch a female with eggs but they do. Except the jerks that bleach them and throw them in the tote.

that's how every scallop boat is from all the way up north down to the eastern shore of Virginia, trip boat or day boat.. no conveyors.

@@ecr125x the boat i worked on had a table. You were never bent over. Thats brutal
@ecr125x
@ecr125x 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisfowler2465 table is nice but on a little day boat when you’re only picking a few bushel a tow it don’t matter. I’d rather have a dumping mat. Plus sometimes the boat can’t/doesn’t want to be rigged with a table for various reasons. It’s like the rigging setups that the scallop drag goes up the rails, great design but impossible to work on the drag or even see if it needs a link here or there… could have 5 meshes blown out and you’d never see it. 150 lbs a day and only a few days a week winter fishery.. Keep it simple. I’ve fished on trip boats that regularly land 50,000+ lbs and every scallop is picked off the deck. This is why most ppl only last one day on a day boat fishing any species. Hard work.
