We're all fans of hawker-fare. The humble hawker stall is firmly embedded in the Malaysian cultural landscape, an icon of our heritage on daily display in the museum of our streets.
Yet do we know anything about the people behind the stalls? The old and overlooked men and women... have we ever imagined the world from behind those tiny kitchens of aluminium and perspex?
We love their food, but what do we know about the things they cherish, what keeps them cooking, day in and day out? Do we know how it feels when one out of a thousand bowl of noodles don't turn out right, to bear the often unkind criticism that follow?
Unlike influencers of today, our local hawkers are not particularly well-groomed, articulate or savvy. But they are masters who have perfected their craft, and they deserve all our respect.
This documentary attempts to bring us closer to their world. We hope to preserve their stories so the next generation of Malaysians will know who they were, and how our amazing food came to be.
These are our Local Legends.

It has been pointed out that our friends here are all Chinese hawkers. That's true! We're definitely looking to feature more diverse Malaysian stories and people in our upcoming videos. Stay tuned :)

@@illusionxmuta I don't know if you'd consider it a hawker centre per se, but there's a place in SS19 Subang Jaya that conceptually resembles it. They have several stalls within that sells nasi campur and nasi lemak in the day, and at night, you get a mix of satay, nasi ayam, and what I consider Malay tai chow :)

I'm a Singaporean and is not shy to share my love for food in malaysia as well as around the region. This video came up on my recommendations and I was captivated within the first 30s.. To the content creator, fantastic work and content that inspires the "wanna be chefs" in most of us but also to recognize the hard work and life sacrificed for passion of serving customers good food. Just simply lovely

I frequent those shops! Except for the Roberts CKT. The beef noodle shop is nice especially the beef stew that is only available on the weekends. Choon Prawn Mee House is great too and they give loads of big prawns and the broth is flavorful af.

Love Malaysian hawker food especially Penang hawker food. What I love about this video is not only the quality content but also the excellent quality video production. Not like some youtubers going around filming low quality video and giving low quality presentation. Really love the cinematography and the trouble you guys went about setting up video lightings for the best production quality. Keep up with this excellent work. You guys/gals are the true legends.

Thank you for this heartwarming video, made me homesick! My kids growing up in HK but always miss Malaysian hawker food especially now covid 19 we can’t go home.....This video is so different from the usual food video. It not only show the food that made me hungry but show the story of each hawker’s personal life journey. Keep it up and show more different racial groups of hawkers in Malaysia!

I can tell you very honestly each and every single one of them works very hard, Same as our fellow Pasar malam shop owners. But I will always tell people don't look down on them... the amount of success that they have you cannot even imagine, alot of them earn more than those BMW and Mercedes - benz drivers let me tell you.
