I’ve been with swift for 4 years already and before that it was 1 year with Schneider. I would suggest going to an outside school if you can because any mega carrier cdl program make you sign a 1 year contract and they make you go over the road. If you decided to leave before the year they make you pay I believe anywhere from 7000-10000 for the school. If you get your CDL elsewhere swift offers tuition reimbursement

I was going to do ports before doing the railyard but I heard nightmares of how long the wait times can be just to enter and exit the port lol

@@TruckingwithTorres their Union so they do what they want sometimes. I ran out of Houston Ports and I can count the times 1 hand I’ve waited 2-3 hrs. Most of the time the crane’s breakdown. I don’t know about other ports. China not docking ships as much anymore in America.

I have trained people that have gotten in with only 3 months, transfer from otr to intermodal. Forsure they will start you with otr though.

​@henrygarcia4279 we run a dedicated route out of fresno wife graduated back in October and I transferred from prime with 1 year experience. You just have to look it's not all OTR for new guys.

Swift was requiring at least 6 months of experience prior to joining. I would suggest getting at least 6 months otr experience because local truck driving you can get sent to the worst customers that aren’t meant for 53 foot trailers

You can choose literally any start time you want it just has to be available. We have tues-sat and sun-thursday. Mon-fri are for people 10years plus. I have Tuesdays-sat 2am-2pm I love it

I think the 4pm-4am would be best since traffic starts dying out around 6ish after that it’s smooth sailing lol what hours do you recommend avoiding I like the Tuesday-Saturday tho but I was thinking doing a 4am-4pm if that’s available

lol dam I took the only one they offered to get my foot in the door 4pm-4am…and the crazy thing is they called me and offered me a position in intermodal

Put in at least 3-6 months of otr then ask your driver leader about transferring over to either Local Intermodal or if they have local positions opened in Jurupa Valley

It all depends on the time you start. I start at 1 am thats why im able to do that many loads throughout the day. & we dont get OT after 40 since we’re on a pay package. I average about 50-55hrs a week. The later you start you most likely wont get many loads since they’ll probably give you live loads and unloads

@@TruckingwithTorres the account I might do if I accept it is 37 cpm and 40 load pay they say the drivers are getting 2000-2500 miles a week. Avg $1500-$2000 a week. But with such high miles I doubt I can do 4-6 loads a day. What do you think? I’m not too sure.

@@lloydtaylor2550 remember recruiters say anything just to get you to sign up. In my opinion I have always been against cpm because you really dont know if you’ll get the miles. Also what state is this for I guess every state pays differently. I really dont know what customers they service out there to know if you’ll be getting that many loads for 1 day. I mean it doesnt hurt to try it everyone has a different experience at every company.

@@josemanuelorozco1806 Yeah if you have no experience they will forsure start you off otr. You can do probably 3months otr and them talk to your driver leader to try and get you into a local account.

Which account are you trying to join and how long do you have driving? I believe its all on your DM but im not sure. There was a time where intermodal was taking in students right out of school but they changed that back to 6 months due to the face that they were getting into many accidents

Anywhere from 10-12 hrs a day it all depends where I get sent and also depending on traffic throughout the day. They stopped last year for going local for new students in the intermodal division because they were getting into too many accidents so they switched it back to 6 months. TBH it all depends if they really need to fill those local positions asap. Its really hard to land a local position without experience but not impossible

@@TruckingwithTorres I bet lol. The railyards are tight. I wouldn’t recommend someone new getting into it unless they have 6 months of preferably dry van experience. Because with dry can comes various different backing scenarios vs reefer where it’s mainly plants or grocery/food warehouses that are the same. Or flatbed where backing is rare.

Im not sure its all depending on what part of the country you live in and what’s available in your area. Mostly any mega carrier that you join will all have automatic trucks in the fleet. I would suggest just researching every company to see what suits your needs.

@@DarrkMane the spots go by quick but im pretty sure there is at least 2 openings. Your DM might be able to get you in. We work 5 days out of the week 12 hours shifts but sometimes you dont even do all 12 it can vary from 10-12 hr days

Local pays more depending on what’re doing. Thats why I left the otr life and decided to go local home everyday and pays good 🙏

Local is livable now. Running OTR and LOCAL is neck to neck now. That’s crazy but do what works for you.

​@walkerinmotionllc8618 facts its sad really we out here giving our time and life away while local home everyday making the same ass backwards.. i team drive with my wife we could both go solo we talked about it but the drivers are creepers out here even when im with her in the store they undress her with there eyes so she feels unsafe too go solo for that reason and i have too agree with her.. also she cant pull the release lever too drop the trailer but she can do everything else lol back hook double shes a great driver.. i cant pay all the bills on one income so currently planning my exit strategy so i can retire us both and move on too nee adventures. . We haul for fedex ground for now but im over fedex bs lol..

We dont get paid by the mile we are hourly and by the load, but i drive anywhere from 800-1300 miles a week

​@@TruckingwithTorresif it slows down you could drive for a fedex contractor local and get a dedicated route dont have too climb senoirity like other ltl companies and you will make the same as you are now but year round so 1600-2k gross about 1100-1700 net probably im sure you can find a contractor paying 70cpm with benefits.. i hear rl carriers got a nice raise and pays good they have it easy if you have all your endorsements .. but you probably already know all this that ltl is where the money is consistently and tankers.. but now and days everyone paying 80-100k plus so you have options if work gets slow is my point lol..
