His career trajectory likely would have been much better if he’d just stayed with Everton U18s, he would have been playing infront of coaches and youth scouts of some of the top teams in the country and at the very least championship/League 1 and 2, and he would have been earning more in Everton’s academy to help him focus on football.
@ddlee843 ай бұрын
It could have been a better trajectory to stay at Everton thats true....but one of the problems with being a young goalkeeper is that playing against kids your same age all the time you don't get used to the rough and tumple aspects of the position. Playing lower league football against men is a great way of getting stronger and if Everton were not going to let him go out on loan to do this then he probably made the right move. He can play lower league for 3 years still be 20 and then try out for higher league teams. Plus if he looks after himself he can easily play till he is 40 if good enough so he still has 23 years(if lucky) to get to the promised land of Premier League Goalkeeper.

Respect to the lad for wanting to play men's football. He'd already come from Reading's academy and Fleetwood U18s to get to Everton. When they wouldn't loan him out he had the guts to tell them to go pound sand and get experience playing the men's game instead of against children for another year or more. People think about the opportunity but these top clubs dump like 95% of the kids they bring in to their academies by the wayside and a lot will end up dropping way down like he did anyway, he just got a head start so he's not playing that level at 20 years old. I don't doubt that he will end up at a higher level than this and the experience of playing first team football will help him.

That's a load of shit. I played for united under 17s at 15 and went straight into the Rochdale first team squad as a 16 year old when they were in league 2. Arguably the big 6 and maybe add in Newcastle and Villa are like a full step or two above their other league competition, so why haven't they done it? Or What about Celtic and Rangers? Especially Celtic when Rangers were sent back to the lower leagues, arguably the only other real competition in the SPL is between those two. Yet none of these teams could do it. @@LocationFootball It will, but it does seem an unnecessary risk. Very few players actually work their way up from non-league to Premier League/Championship level. At Everton, he would have been getting elite level coaching and game time with the U-18s/23s this season (where a young keeper's inevitable mistakes are mostly overlooked provided they show talent and progression), probably a loan move to a League 1/2 level side next season or the one after should he develop well, as well as a nice salary (which is important as many teenage footballers develop chronic injury issues which force them to leave football altogether). There is both a clear developmental pathway and a safety net coming through a PL/Championship academy. Non-league is the wild west. It's admirable I guess, but first team football shouldn't be a priority at 17, especially when you have to drop down to a level that's probably lower than his u-23 side to find it

Update: He has now completed a transfer to national league side Aldershot.

He most certainly has! Already jumped multiple leagues....seems like it's not such a bad idea after all

There not a typical step 5 club and they have a huge invester who is gonna bring success in the lower leagues !! Money talks just as much down there as it does at the top ! Pats from the Farnham area and earning so good luck to him ! Maybe something bigger down the line will come for him!

I'd be miffed to at having to play youth team football while Jordana Prickford steals a wage in the first team. Everton are a complete dung factory

its always amazed me with how many football clubs engalnd has considering its a small country. i kno not all are pro but its still a big number. goes to show how much that sport means to the country
@LocationFootballАй бұрын
So many teams at so many different levels! No wonder it's so difficult to go pro, the standard is so high 👍

Well, I hope he gets another shot at the big time. Don't know how anyone equates practicing on a Premier League side to playing in the 9th division or whatever...
