This weeks video takes us back to March on a Scottish Sea Loch.
I catch some sea trout, forage for shellfish and wild garlic before cooking it up back at home.

Great video. It's good to see youngsters enjoying the great outdoors, too! Agree re sea trout, just a shame i hardly ever get to chase them in the sea lochs. Just be wary of the legal position. They come under the law with salmon, so you need permission to target sea trout in Scottish tidal waters. Subbed 👍👍

Hi brilliant video I used to like fishing off the pier at Inveraray but the last time I went up it was closed. Whereabouts are you fishing on the loch? And are you able to keep the Seatrout and if so do you need a special license?
@discovering_scotland
@discovering_scotland 26 күн бұрын
@@carlpeel155 hi thank you for the kind words! The pier is now back open this year! Although I have not visited yet so unsure if fishing is allowed or not. There are sea trout all round the loch in pretty shallow water. Permits are required for sea trout and the permits vary from location to location so always research before you go although I've never had anyone ask to see one

Used to take mussels from the sea in Skye many years ago, 95% gone now. Must be pollution or run off which filters into them.

Really like the videos mate. Never fished Loch Fyne where on the Loch would you recommend for a camping and fishing trip. Fishing from the bank and will take the kayak as well. Will defo try the foraging as well 👍. Also any lures you recommend. Keep putting the good content out mate. P.s will definitely book the Edge holiday home that is class.

Thank you for your kind words. In terms of camping there is not a lot of great spots as the foreshore is very rocky, I usually take a look on Google maps in satellite mode and zoom in and out up and down the lochside when looking for new spots and then just a case of checking them out with a few back ups if the preferred place turns out not great. Lures for me the best is a 10g Hansen pilgrim in silver and blue but they are very hard to come by now days, they are the best by a mile in my opinion for sea trout and will catch mackerel and Pollock too, a 12g super sprat in the same colour is a close second. You will not regret booking the edge it is unreal! Message Dave the owner on their Instagram page and tell them I sent you for the best prices

@@discovering_scotland Hi James. We are heading back to loch fyne in four weeks for three weeks. I can’t wait. I have learnt a lot from your videos. Are there any bass in Loch Fyne? I have researched it but no mention of them. I would have thought they would come in with the mackerel. Also last time we came up, apart from an abundance of delicious oysters and cockles, I found one whelk. Do you know of any spots where I could get a few more. Thank you. 🙏

@discovering_scotland 6 сағат бұрын
@@Justtesting64 hi mate, that's great you are returning. In terms of the bass I've never caught or known anyone to have caught any in Loch Fyne however I do know people have been catching them in the Clyde estuary which isn't a million miles away so wouldn't be a total surprise if they are in Loch Fyne. In terms of Whelks they should be in the same places you have found he cockles and oysters by they can be tricky to get your eye in. Generally looks for rocks that are exposed at low tide and check in and around any seaweed at low tide too

Every time I forage for wild mussels whether from the beach or rocks, they have pearls embedded in the meat which don't purge. Tasty, but sair on the teeth! Any suggestions?
@discovering_scotland
@discovering_scotland 9 ай бұрын
Hi mate, yes a really common issue with mussels from beaches in particular and I'm afraid there is no solution as they are embedded in the meat so won't purge. I get them too but I just don't think they are that big of a deal. I'd say from each big pot I probably get one or two at most and I'm happy with that for the amazing sea food. I'd say one tip is to pick mussels on the smaller side as they don't seem to have many plus I believe they taste sweeter anyway and it allows the bigger mussels to breed on

Do you need a permit for the fyne m8?
@discovering_scotland
@discovering_scotland Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, no permit needed as it's salt water but please check local areas for rules regarding sea trout and salmon catches as these have their own laws. Basically if you don't mean to catch a sea trout and put it back it's not your fault if you are fishing for say mackerel

You require a permit to retain a seatrout in Scottish sea lochs and you can’t fish a river estuary or near the low water mark the law has been there since 2008 whilst you can fish the sea shore for free, migratory fish are protected the distance from mean low water mark is 1.5 kilometres so you’ve broke the law and done a blog on it 😱
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 15 күн бұрын
The trouble is finding out who to ask for permission! There's rarely any sign to state "private fishing" on the foreshore, and 99% of anglers that you ask will just tell you to fish regardless! When I was on mull fly fishing (catch and release btw) for ST in sea lochs and estuaries, I managed to trace the owners and made sure I had permission, usually free sometimes, a small fee. As you say, dodgy on utube!😮
