Sure the little motor wasn't dead? These seem common to need replacing too and are in the kits, much cheaper than someone else doing it and not a hard job.

@FRDKNG Interesting, perhaps there was a broken wire in the short section of wire attached to the actuator that would have been replaced with the second hand unit but not the new repair kit? Glad it's sorted though, let's not pay it any more attention until we have have!

Can't recall now if it made noise, been too long and my memory is no good at the best of times! But if it's the gear that is damaged it will definitely make noise, if it's the little motor though it normally won't. Good luck mate 👍

Bit late responding to this sorry but may want to get in and check all rods are properly adjusted and connected inside the door between the lock/door handle etc?

@@BrowneysGarage hey thanks for the reply. Just received the actuators from eBay. So may as well check and replace if needed as well as check all rods are aligned and connected.

That’s very odd, should be the same even for earlier AU’s right up to BF. I’d say there’s just something in the add where they haven’t listed Fairmonts, same kit will work though.

So you're saying you replaced one door motor, it worked a few times but now that same one door is not locking or unlocking? If so I'd be checking the wiring between the door and the body of the car for any breaks/damaged wires or getting a cheap multimeter to make sure voltage/signal is actually getting to that motor when you're trying to lock or unlock.

I'm a hack and very tired at the time of answering this so will be worth doing further research, but the key not unlocking the door is to me not likely related to the actuator replaced in this video. I haven't really looked at the AU and BA door lock barrels and the connection to the actual latching assembly but on earlier models the connection was a simple metal rod, attached to a rotating plastic clip at the lock barrel end. This plastic clip could break, the rod could become unclipped and either end, it may not move far enough to unlock, or the acutal latch mechanism that is unlocked may not be functioning - all these are issues I've seen on earlier Falcons and could be the case here if it is a similar design. Fortunately they can be checked with the door trim off and having a look/play to see if you can get it locking/unlocking manually. Sounds daunting but it makes a lot more sense once you see it and have a play. Worst case scenario the lock barrels and keys appear to be on eBay cheap enough and could be changed over, will be a little further hassle/cost if having separate keys to open the car and then start it will bother you but there are also lock barrel, ignition barrel and key sets there as well from my quick search. @Unite1Wing I don't have experience with them in FG's but your right, doesn't seem to be kits for sale for these so may have to just replace the whole actuator. Imagine the process of doing this will be fairly similar though. Good luck 👍

Trying to think what else could cause this, the grinding specifically seems to suggest damage in the gear maybe. Everything else I can think of is a simple linear movement but there could be something I'm missing. They're cheap enough so I'd probably start with an actuator repair kit, if it turns out not to be that you'll likely need one in the future anyway if you keep the car! @Michael Bouboulis Hey mate, really depends how risk averse you are I guess. I’ve never heard any quoted period of time these are good for. Guess there’s not a huge downside if you chose to do them proactively other than time, the investment is pretty minimal.

Not locking at all or cycles to lock, then straight to unlocked again? Not locking at all - remote flat or not programmed? Cycling so it never locks - believe it's normally the drivers door that does this, try lock this with the actual key then hit lock on the remote. If that works sounds like the drivers door actuator isn't working.

@Bronwyn Barnes Maybe start looking for a broken wire. If you have a multimeter check to see if voltage is getting to the plug to the actuator, if not first place to check I’d say would be the wiring running between the body of the car and the door (the section you can see with the door open). @Bronwyn Barnes Hey Bronwyn. Wiring is all good then, did you happen to test the actuator alone to be working? As long as it's definitely trying to move then you may be onto something there, perhaps there's some sort of jam or something going on inside that lock and latch assembly above the actuator itself? I haven't had one apart on this particular car but maybe it could be pulled apart to inspect or even just grab another from the wreckers and throw it in? Got a real tough one there, bloody cars hey!
