This was Vinnie Jones 1st film. He was only supposed to have a small cameo role, but the camera loved him. So they wrote a bigger story line for him. The big star of the film was supposed to be Sting, but Vinnie just surpassed him.

That scene with the car door was the first scene he ever shot, think I remember right from a making of I watched. He didn't remain at the top for long but for a little while there he was one you wanted to see.

Fun fact: Vinnie Jones was arrested the night before he shot that scene where he's beating that guy with the car door. He got arrested for assault. They shot that scene in one take. A natural.

If I'm remembering rightly, pre release critic screenings of Guy's film weren't going well and a distribution deal was far from done. Then Tom Cruise showed up to a private screening by invitation. He reportedly laughed his ass off through the film, making the critics change their minds, and the rest is history. Pretty sure there's some footage out there of Guy Ritchie thanking Tom for saving his first movie.

What I dug about this back in the day was that it stuck in my mind as the UK Pulp Fiction. Also was my intro to the pre action version of Jason Statham. I want to say he turned into an action star after hooking up with Jet Li in "The One". I agree with Steph about stuff across the pond when it comes to acting or dialogue in general...much of it seems very natural like actual people talking instead of actors reciting lines. Just reciting lines is something that is kind of easy to spot and hear in many ...US based projects. Ha, not even going to go into the teeny bopper stuff that has kids speaking in a way that not even adults speak. Lacking authenticity basically.

Fun fact, Vinnie Jones was a professional football (soccer) player in England as a defensive midfielder. Just like in the movie, he was a tough guy. No one wanted to mess with him because he was well-known for being pretty "brutal" by, e.g., tackling his opponents often recklessly..

There is a very famous photograph which cemented his reputation as a brutal thug on the pitch. Gazza Paul Gascoigne was on the rise as the greatest player of his generation when he played against Vinnie and Vinnie hated the weak pretty boy showing off and making him look bad so hidden from the referee he grabbed Gazza by the balls and squeezed one photographer got a picture that showed the whole thing the vicious satisfaction on Vinnie's face and the shock and pain on Gazza's.

Oh and the guy playing Hatchet Harry's right hand man The Baptist was played by Lenny McLean (RIP) aka 'The Guv'nor' and the real deal when it comes to hard men, there's even a film about him in 2017's 'My name is Lenny'

I almost have the feeling, people expect a "fun"movie when it's about Guy Ritchie. This has been his first one and i find it seriously brutal and bloody, contrasting the humour. Following movies like snatch became more silly. Like this one most. Plus, dope soundtrack.

To compare Richie with Spielberg - Lock Stock is Duel, Snatch is Jaws. He sharpened his teeth on Lock Stock before creating his masterpiece Snatch 🦈

Vinnie used to play top flight football (soccer) for Wimbledon. Captain of Wimbledon when they won the FA Cup. (big acolade for a football player). Known as the toughest, most aggressive player in English football history and holds a record for the fastest red card (sent off for dirty play) in English football history. 5 seconds. From the kick off, he just went straight in. He also appeared as a guest, celebrity contender, in The Gladiators and started a fight, a real one, with Wolf, a massive, body building Gladiator athlete. He knows no fear.

A great film with 2 people who didn't start off as actors. Sting, a former musician,, and Vini Jones, a former football player. Stings first acting roll was in Quadraphenia, a film about the pitch battles in the 60s between the Mods and Rockers on Brighton beach. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

The big bald dude ''Harry the Hatchet'' was called Lenny Mclean was a famous unlicensed boxer in britain he was known as the ''Gov''nor'' a reputation as the hardest man in britain ,he was known across the pond too and some hollywood stars like gene hackman watched him fight he was well known to the underworld , later in his life he met guy ritchie and guy offered him a part in his film you just watched , he got the bug and found something in his life he loved to do Acting he was a natural , unfortunately lenny mclean never was able to fulfill his new career he's dreams he died of cancer 1998

I prefered lock stock to snatch but i really loved the gentlemen.it didn't get great reviews but i enjoyed it enormously. all very silly and kinda crazy but a lot of fun. hugh grant and colin farrell just chewing up the set. must have been fun to be in

I was so happy that you guys enjoyed the film and you also gave an intelligent review…. I watch a snatched reaction recently and the reactors (Americans ) completely missed the beauty of guy richie’s style and aim of story telling through cinema. Had me thinking what a shame to be unable to appreciate this movie on any of its solid levels. The music alone is one of my favourite movie soundtracks Sound design and music is a huge part of a good film for me. Thanks for putting my faith back into humanity as this movie is in my top 3 for sure. ❤🎬🎼🎥

As great as this, and even Snatch are, the movie that I’m always telling people about is Layer Cake. It’s not Ritchie but his old producer, Matt Vaughn, who is a genius on his own right. Hopefully, someone will see this and review it.

This movie has a much less violent but more of a Bollywood comedy version called "Phir Hera Pheri" with Akshay kumar, that's a must watch too, recommended!
