If you have a pickup truck, a tailgate pad is, by far, the easiest way to transport your bike. It's also the easiest way to get it stolen! Plus, you have to worry about how to keep that pad from getting taken from your truck while you ride or, like me, all of the time!

Pad: Sorry...no link. I actually made this because I have a sewing machine and I'm not afraid to use it!

I never thought of locking down the tailgate pad. That's a great idea.

This is great! My brother in law is always having to watch his truck when he stops by. This is the perfect system to give some peace of mind

Thanks! Nothing's gonna stop someone who really wants your stuff but it'll at least slow them down.

In the last 6 months I've bought a truck, tailgate pad and a bike and the first time out I realized the big security loophole that the pad is. I was contemplating investing in a full bike rack but I think this type of option is good enough for my needs.

Yes. It’s really just to slow someone down a bit for quick stops before or after a ride. A locking tailgate (which I now have on my Tacoma) is even better 👊

I used a big chain wrapped in a bike inner tube, that cable can be cut with bolt cutters, but its a good idea to slow them down
@TrailBreaker

Yes, you're right. This is really only used for quick stops to and from the trail like picking up milk at the store. I just want to keep the lazy thieves 😀

Hey, I know this is an older post, but how on earth did you get a chain into an inner tube? I want to try this but they seem too tight to get around the chain?

Isn't it fucked that we have to worry about people stealing our property? I just had someone in my apartment complex steal my mountain bike from the bicycle storage room I bought a new, more expensive one, 2 weeks later and THAT ONE WAS STOLEN TOO

Sivy Yes it is. Not sure how to completely stop a determined asshole. Sometimes slowing them down is enough

Dude I agree. It’s honestly so disheartening that you can’t put something in the back of your truck without the fear of someone taking it. In my opinion, people who steal things are the scum of the earth. The lowest type of life form.

I purchased 4 of these locks and used it on a Tacoma 2017. I had to drill two of them to use the 1/2 inch stock bolts to the truck bed. I am very happy and great peace of mind.
