The spoon curve can be slid at a downward angle under the pin stacks of small format Abus locks such as the Abus Discus when using BoK turner placement, where it will stop at the base of pin 5, the only standard pin. Pushing the spoon curve further in at this point will set pin 5, thus easily arriving at the false set. This is not possible with a short hook. This technique works for many other kinds of small format lock, and allows for BoK turner placement in many situations where it would otherwise be impractical. While ToK turner placement is the gold standard for quality torque and keyway accessibility, sometimes it is desirable to use a BoK turner blade as a fulcrum, and most beginners prefer BoK. I use a spoon curve instead of a short hook most of the time. I was never a big fan of the classic flat short hook popularized by HPC, but I do use it once in a while. Like LockNoob, I favor thin short hooks, but most people don't. Surveying many skilled pickers, the vast consensus was to offer the flat short hook as the default. You can order the short, medium, or tall hooks with flat, round, or thin profiles, in .6mm or .4mm thicknesses from Multipick. We discussed not including the .4mm probe, but concluded that while it is not as popular or useful, there are uses for the thinner probe in applications where the .6mm probe will not fit, and it makes the pick set consistent.

A great and honest review as always Ash. One of the things I love about the TOK/BOK tensioners, is that they're strong enough to turn sprung cores, yet soft enough that they don't chew up the keyway. Thank you for the review! This is the one I have been waiting for. A fair, non biased and objective review which I for one really appreciate. I currently have no requirement to buy the set as I have sufficient pick-sets, however, I have purchased the bottom and top of key way tensioners, as well as the 60 degree tapered one. There is also the option of what appears to be a combination of the top and bottom tension tools (SP-45/46/47) which are now in my EDC and have become my go to tensioners. They are not included in this set, but I am delighted they are now in mine. With regards to price, you get what you pay for and you are paying for quality and the 30 year guarantee. 👍🏻

hopefully they'll sell these tension tools as an independent set. one thing i love about multipick is how they typically sell all of the picks and tensioners individually to let us build out our own sets in addition to their pre-built sets.

Multipick picks are well rounded. I find some of my handles needing some rounding though for full comfortness. No idea if this has changed from couple years back when I got my sets. Some of the tension tools have sharp edges too in my kit (the windshield wiper metal types)

I love multipick and this is this my normal pick......although I must disagree with some of the choices..... just a personal preference.

I recently bought one of my “Holy Grail” pick sets. The Ridgeback set from Law Lock Tools. My last two “Holy Grail” sets are a good Petersen set and the Multipick Lock Noob Essential set.

I like law lock tools because I love their handles but as far as everything multipick engineering is the best! They are expensive but like they say you get what you pay for

I love this commentary and have only one question. The pouch they come in looks similar to the ones I see tool kits in. They are designed to roll up and store incredibly well and save space. Then when you are using them, you unroll them and have great access to what you need. Does this kit allow you to roll it up or fold it for storage?

Hello Ash, I was really torn between this set and the 39 piece set that you designed in collaboration with Multi Pick. I wound up buying the set you designed, but I’m wondering as someone pretty new to locksport if there’s anything you would recommend I supplement your kit with from this kit?

How do you rate multipick vs peterson? They both seem very high quality. I have petersons exclusively given I'm in Canada but I'm thinking of grabbing the elite multipick set and their dimple set to really stack my collection.

We always hear about different tension tools for all different locks, but why does no one have a pick set with hooks, rakes, and maybe a couple dimple picks? I think thst would make a more comprehensive set rather than having to buy a whole different set of dimple picks. And thank you for the content. Keep up the good work.
