In Amsterdam there are 3 types of bike theft: 1 You forgot to lock it. 2 It only had a wheel lock and was picked up by organized thieves with the classic "white van" so the lock can be cut at an undisclosed location.* 3 The lock is thin/cheap enough to be cut by a "betonschaar" (rebar-cutter/shear). I've never heard of anyone whose lock was genuinely picked. Not a criticism, just food for thought. *(usually when the bike is parked in a remote location where there is no one to call the police) So most Dutch bikes have a wheel lock for ease and temporary locking (supermarket etc.) And a big chain lock that can't be cut by shears to secure it to a bike rack or lantern post. (The chain lock is wrapped around the post just under the seat when riding)

I'd like to thank the Lock Picking Lawyer for encouragement. Today I came home and discovered the mail box was locked. Now we never keep our mail box locked so someone must have twisted the dial, and I have no idea of what the combination might be. At first, I thought I would just wait for my wife (Mrs No Lock Picking Experience) and hope she knew the combination but then I decided it is not a Master Lock so I should just try rotating the knob and discover if I felt anything. I did! And after a minute or two of left right left, I got it open! Thank you for the encouragement. A Lock Picking Novice

Go to some of his early videos - he picked several disk locks with a commercial pick, before he and Bosian Bill decided they could do better. (There's also at least one recent one where the pick didn't fit the keyway, so he needed a longer pick.) The pick isn't really a major invention, it's the same basic design as the commercial picks just with a few features better laid out.

Just bought this lock after watching this and many other LPL videos. Surely very few normal thieves would take lock on far easier pickings especially if its not an expensive bike , correctly locked and too open to public view. Will update this posting after a few months of use . HaPPy CyCliNg 🚲

I think this is the lock I will buy. I have a OneWheel Pint X pedestrian EV. I intend to carry it with me whenever possible, but some small businesses are too small inside to carry something that big in. I think it’ll fit fine in my backpack and these are one of the few locks that took a little longer than normal for LPL to open. Plus, the slim profile should work better for the OneWheel.

This lock goes in the category of products that you carry around as blunt weapons instead of using them properly. Or in this case, one on your bike and one on your person to beat the devil out of the guy trying to get your bike

I've been watching your channel for about a year now even though I never intended to buy any type of lock. Until just now that is, this lock was suggested to combine with a VanMoof S3 or X3 bike which already comes with it's own kick lock system (an intergrated bicycle lock you kick with your foot to close, partly mechanical and partly electronical). Unfortunately the kick lock system is not recognised by most insurance company's offering bicycle plans. If you ever see one of these bicycles around it would be so great if you could get the owners permission to attempt to bypass the kick lock system! They seem to be pretty popular in the US and are very recognisable bicycles once you've first seen them. Thanks for making the choice of bicycle lock a bit easier and for all the great content.
