LoFree is back at it, introducing another ultra-low profile mechanical keyboard (the EDGE) worth of consideration because it allows for firmware customization (key remapping, macros, backlight modification) - but how does it stack up against the wildly popular LoFree FLOW...
Note: The company spec’s the Edge tilt angle as 3-degrees + 6-degrees, though my measurements were 2-degrees + 4-degrees.

I like the contrast of the LoFree Flow white letters on the key caps vs the "Stealth" lettered keys on the Edge. I am not a fan of keyboard lights. I ordered the edge so I guess I will find out well it works.

This review scores extra points in my book, because it mentions if the keyboard is programmable or not. Personally I think every modern keyboard should have the option of a 3-split spacebar, beside being programmable. And in a dreamworld every brand should try to make a limited number of programmable numpads that go with each model of their keyboards for users that are accountants or AutoCAD operators.

A bit bummed when I initially saw the edge rather than a flow v2 however I'm a fan of the potential software changes and improved wireless performance. Currently using my flow wired as it has connectivity issues wireless.

The silver lining is that the redesign leaves the door open for a Flow V2 with LoFree Configurator software somewhere down the line. The fact that they are doing the software now suggests they may keep it in everything moving forward 🤞🏻

A nice overview. The looks and sound quality are great for both, with the new EDGE giving a snappier sound. I'd be interested to know what the extra chin length is like to live with over a number of months. For me I think it would end at the point where I naturally rest on the table (I sometimes sit back to type) and can see that causing a problem for me. I also miss a numpad. It's an essential part of my workflow, especially if I can remap the keys.

I find that for normal letter-typing the chin of the EDGE isn't problematic, it starts right around where my hands curl upwards; however, when I reach for the number and function keys, my palm does make contact with the edge of the chin a little. This hasn't been annoying or problematic for my use because those higher key-rows are less commonly used - but it is something to consider. All things considered, I still find it to be a comfortable keyboard. I keep it in my office in case I need to grab something to take to a meeting or throw in my bag, etc. for portable work.

Thanks for the helpful video! I almost preordered the edge but glad I saw your video. I'll wait for better shine through key caps, hopefully on a flow v2. The flow is too transparent and the edge looks too dark. The key cap font choice and carbon pattern is not the aesthetic I'm going for but i would have been willing to ignore that if the lighting was right. But I do like that it's thinner so I understand they made some compromises.

My primary right now is a Ploopy Mouse (see my video before this one) - but I still use an MX Master 3 for the audio because it is more commonly available and so makes for a better reference sound ✌🏻

Does the Edge have the thocky feeling as the Flow?

It has the marble-like characteristics, but the thock is not as pronounced because it does have much of a chamber to resonate.

Even worse the switches aren't shine through. At least with the Flow you could buy shine through XVX / Womier keycaps.

I agree - it’s a little quieter and more marbley… that said, the Edge still delivers, it is just a little harsher, partly because the keystrokes are shorter and take some getting used to ✌🏻

@@JakeReevesVideo Which one is more quieter?, because it suppose that Edge should be more quieter and silent than the Flow, i mean, the sales phrase is "the smoothest low-profile ultra thin keyboard", one would think is something is smoother is more quiet, no?

@Elegido4327 smooth doesn’t mean quiet, it refers to the lubricated-like feel of the POM switches. You can hear the samples in the video, but as I said, the Flow is a bit quieter.

I mention it early on with a top-down side-by-side comparison. Aside from the fact it is there and alters the aesthetic though, I don’t go into much detail because there’s not much to say - that’s where they’ve shifted the battery to to allow the Edge to be so thin ✌🏻

@blue1901 I worries about the same thing too. Initially I thought it would act like a bit of a palm rest, but it ended up being more of a thumb rest - and I didn’t notice any discomfort.
