Appreciated the advice on hard light! A lot of my favorite work is from people who play with that aesthetic a bit. For example, I've been looking at a lot of Peter Lindbergh's work where he uses harsh shadow across a face to create shape and drama

Cool Nathan! I like so much that captures and the model's look and style. The slow movement tip is very useful too. I never though about the concept but I do it always. On the other hand, I love Fujis. In the last years I've been using X100s, XT1, XT2 and now XT3. The quality, size and weight of these cameras encourage me to take more photos everywhere and all the time. Thanks and cheers from Buenos Aires!

This was quite an interesting BTS with your analysis of the scene, the light and your reaction and use of it. Your modeling tips were thought provoking as well (I am going to try that slow-down thing). So while I appreciated your earlier "how I got the shot" ones I thought they were getting a little repetitive and this is fresh and cool. Enjoying your videos, Nathan. Cheers!

Great video. I still shoot with my D800's in the studio and use a D610 out in the field. My "walking around" is an XT-2. Recently faced with upgrading those 800's, I decided the latest and greatest features of one of the newer Nikon's wasn't going to make that much of a difference. I mean, under controlled lighting conditions the increase in quality over the 800 is marginal, so I decided to get into medium format. Pentax 645Z. What a difference is all I have to say. The dynamic range and tonality is incredible with the larger, even if it is older, sensor.
@NathanElson
@NathanElson 3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. I've flirted with the idea of MF, but I may end up going mirrorless, so the 645Z wouldn't be the direction I head, but I've heard good things about it.
@MTimWeaver
@MTimWeaver 2 жыл бұрын
I bought one of the original D600 when they came out, and Nikon wound up swapping it out for the D610 due to the shutter oil issue. I've had that camera nearly 8-9 years now?? Still going strong. Also, I still use LR 5.7.x and PS CS6, neither of which are supported anymore nor do they really support anything newer than the D750. :) The only MF I have are film. Digital MF is too pricy for me.

Motivated movement, whether it's the subject or the camera itself, is very important for giving the photo credibility. Doing something, thinking about someone behind the lens, a childhood memory, a want or desire you have - all of this helps us engage with the final image. Otherwise it's just a girl with her dead-fish hands drooping onto her slack-featured face 😅 Excellent work all around on this shoot. 👏👏
