Morning Mike, like your philosophy, overbuild- Go big or go home! How close do the big- boys stop their plates from the wedge? Understand your concern, if that’s the case, gotta put governors on your cars so they can’t go over 5 mph , remove all buckets from the yard, could fill with water, a fella could pass out, fall head first into it and drown. See where I’m going, but I do understand your concern. Have a good one

Hey Other Mike! Hope all is well. As for what the other manufactures do, I do not know. My wedge is completely different and that is what determines this in my eyes. I like your BUCKET analogy. Oh Mike, I think you're gonna regret that decision... Okay, not really. I certainly get the logic behind leaving room for a slip over 4-way. The likelihood of needing a four way seems considerably higher than getting into the world's largest patch of Hickory and Elm. Then again, I'm a lower latitude troll and our forests may contain differing ingredients. May I offer a suggestion regarding plug welds? Okay, thanks Mike, I didn't want to seem rude! I try to make the hole somewhat larger to get as much weld penetration as possible. I've had them pop off from the round stock because the heat basically concentrated on the thinner wall of the tubing rather than burning into the bar stock. If I understand the concept of what you're building, it should be plenty strong enough. When the need for maximum strength is required, I pop the stock through both walls of the tube. With about 1/8" protruding, you can put a lot of heat into the weld and the likelihood of it ever moving is pretty slim. I too stayed at a Holiday Inn... However, it's been a while ago. Bless'ns to ya, Tedd
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tedd, I appreciate the honest comment. When you start lying to me, I am going to call you out!!! In regards to the plug welds, you make a very, very good point. I should have went all the way through on those log stop pins. It would have been even better. The welds on the opposite side are decent, so I hope that is enough. I appreciate the lesson. I am a self taught welder that needs more taughting, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the comment and the learnin' WST

Don’t make cut edge true 90 , your bottom off cut edge should hit the log first by a degree. Because if it true 90 degree, take more tons to push logs threw . Dear FM, I am overwhelmed. Let me answer your questions in the order to which they were received. Pop some corn, because this is going to take awhile. I have an idea of the color(s) I have a friend that is going to turn me some custom handles from a rare wood from Indonesia. I need to wrap me head around anything that spins and how I would make that happen. There will be 102 episodes in this Log Splitter Build Series. 30 spots are intense, but great for the abs. I will be working on the log lift prep next episode and a teaser is a good idea. Honestly, I feel that these build videos are boring a good amount of people could care less... I get it. The assembly videos is what people want to see, once I start bolting things on. I am not classically trained in welding. Self taught. Alex is a better welder than I am and the rest of the family has no clue where the ON switch is on the welder. The comment you left is a good example of why I love KZfaq. I read and respond to all. Oh, I also enjoy them. I've wanted to ask what you leave at the end of your comments, but I also wanted to figure it out for myself. I think it is a rolling pin. How wrong am I? #woodsweatandtears
