Same color - different results! Split-Fire log splitter cycle time demonstration and comparison. Log splitter cycle time testing, demonstration, and comparison between Split-Fire 2265 and Split-Fire 3465. I time the cycle time using a stopwatch - cycle time splitting through PA hardwoods - Red Oak. Cycle time splitting the extension of the wedge/ram. Cycle time splitting the retraction of the wedge/ram hydraulics. Cycle time running the machine without wood.
Hydraulic log splitter tests.

That split screen with simultaneous piston movement was exactly what I needed to see to make a decision. Loved the Ford cold start too! Thanks for doing this one!

I'm so glad I went with the 2265. I like how quick it is. And I don't need any more power than it has to offer, and I like how light it is for moving around the yard.

I love my 2265. Had it since July. I was contemplating a 3 series splitter mainly for a 36” stroke. I also liked the knife height and option of a 4 way. I have a wood boiler with a 36” firebox and was thinking 30” splits would be efficient. I tested my boiler and saw no difference in burn time between 30” wood and 22” wood. In the end I couldn’t rationalize spending the extra coin on a kitted 3 series. The 2265 is amazing and can handle a lot more than you think it can!

I always say that about the 2265 - you can't take the 18-ton rating to mean it's less powerful than other "larger" machines you may see at a box store. I think the 18-ton split-fire will out split most of those bigger ones. It's the engineering behind the log stops and the 2-way wedge that make it more powerful than it appears.

Glad to hear the 2265 is faster. I’d hate to know I’m running the slower splitter. Good comparison thanks Chad.

Great comparison between the 2 splitters. I believe that since both splitters have the same engine that the hydraulic pumps differ and it requires the larger splitter to move slower to obtain the higher ton capacity. If it moved too fast it would loose pressure. Similar to the rear axle gears on a truck? Are the hydraulic hoses the same size on both units? Either way, I would love to have one of those bad boys! Great video.

Great questions! I've never actually compared the line sizes of the hydraulic hoses. I'll have to take a look at those. They're both great splitters. I sort of forgot about how fast the 2265 feels when you're splitting with it.

Try to get some really hard wood like locust or iron oak maybe then the 3465 will really shine.

Going to order the 3490 come Monday. I asked you in the other video but guessing your busy or have t seen it yet but are you happy with the 8” lift or are you having second thoughts and wish you would have stuck with only the 4” lift.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 5 ай бұрын
Sorry - you're right that I'm behind on responding to comments. I do really like the 8" lift. It puts the working height at a comfortable level for me, without a kink in my back. The only downside that I've found to it is the added weight. That additional lift means the log lift is more metal, the kick stand is more metal - all that adds up to a little heavier splitter. But it's still manageable by hand moving it around. It's just a bit heavier than I was used to with the 2265.

Interesting stuff Chad. Have you considered raising the 2265? I can't tell for sure from the video, but it seems like that would not require a ton of fab work? Raise it a small about and maybe bigger tires? Or, just keep doing what you're doing and ignore this guy that owns exactly ZERO log splitters! Happy Holidays. 🎄😎❄🎅👍

Hi Chris - I've thought about it. I do think that it's the lift kit, in part, that makes the 3465 a bit heavier than the 2265. There's quite a bit more steel in that longer log lift, taller tongue, and taller base. I'm afraid if I added steel to the 2265 for additional height, the weight wouldn't be such a huge factor that I appreciate about it. Bigger tires are a good idea - that would add some height to the rear of the machine -and just require adding some steel to the "kick stand" and the log lift.

Are these regular OR new high flow models ?
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 6 ай бұрын
Great question. These are the regular models. If I were ordering them again - I'd leave the 2265 regular - it's plenty fast enough. I would consider the high-flow for the 3465 if I was sure I'd always have someone around to help me.

Hello! That old 6-volt tractor still starts pretty good, even in the cold. :)
@jakebredthauer5100
@jakebredthauer5100 6 ай бұрын
@@PurpleCollarLife Something killed the engine. The tractor jerked and it took so much energy from the engine that it could not continue. My guess is that it tried to raise the 3 point as soon as you cranked. Next time, drop the three-point slightly prior to cranking and it will not do that.

@@PurpleCollarLife The new splitter is not working for you because it makes the splits too tall. If you sell it immediately you can still get a good price for it. You won't be able to get as much for the old one because it is old. Until SplitFire makes a sensible 4-way, you are better off with the faster cycle time from your old splitter. The sooner you admit your mistake, the sooner you can take remedial action. SplitFire could possibly help you find a buyer.
