congrats on being a finalist in the portrait society competition Jeff! I heard you talk on one of these podcasts about how you never painted your own family before so that's really cool that painting got selected. Really happy for you dude, thanks for all your hard work!

Such great paintings, dayum!! And Jeff, let me just say that the podcast is helpful, for sure. In my case, I'm finding it fascinating to learn how other artists sell, make ends meet, find clients, sell directly on IG, build relationships with galleries, the whole career enchilada. On top of that, it's super cool to just listen to you guys talk art. I could do that all day.

Great interview with another great artist! I have been wondering if you would ever get around to talking with Logan. Toward the end you guys talk about not being distracted from getting work done. Seeing this first thing in the morning when I was about to get to work was a total distraction but totally worth it! As a fan on Logan’s I had to watch right away. Logan has always been a very dedicated artist who took his work seriously. What the interview doesn't reveal is that he's actually a very funny guy. He has a great sense of humor. But he is serious about getting work done. I met Logan on the east coast sometime between 2001-03. The beginning of his lean years. We met at an open figure drawing session on Cape Cod. I believe he was maybe 22 or 23 years old. I’m older than he is so I thought maybe I could be a bit of a mentor. Little did I know that his career was going take off like a rocket. We became friends and I introduced him to other east coast artists. Some of us had recently gone on a painting trip to Maine, and Logan told me if we ever wanted to do that again he might have some other young friends from California who would join us. Sure, why not? Do these guys like painting? It turned out his friends were people like Jeremy Lipking and Glenn Dean. We rented a house in Port Clyde Maine with about 12 artists for maybe 10 days. It was a total blast. After that we did a group trip to Mexico, and then Provincetown MA, and then to Moab Utah. It was inspiring painting along with these great painters and one of the cool things about it is that when we were all together we were just guys having fun. No pretense. But we all painted from first thing in the morning, throughout the day, and sometimes into the night time. Anyway, great to see Logan’s work take off like it has in the past 20 years. Hard work and persistence pays off. Thanks for another great podcast episode!

What a great talk about galleries... im often just so disheartened with galleries, i only work with one now Abend in Boulder. Good relationship but just like you said Jeff, i have had to breakaway from so many over the last decade that it just soured me. Yet I see all these artists who dont sell direct and i envy that, im so tired of selling anything direct to collector. These podcast is quickly turning into one of my most valuable resources. Im donating for sure.

I'm from Iowa and immediately thought his work looked like the Grant Wood of the West. I love his color and design work. Thanks for sharing this interview with us and a HUGE congratulations for being a finalist in the Portrait Society. I'm thrilled for you. 🙌

I’m loving this session, keeping it real! I’m more encouraged in my art journey to continue painting from my imagination and in my own style. Every morning I wake up and paint for about an hour before I go to work. It just fills me with energy and a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. …The hobbist artist (KS)

AGREE make art every opportunity. In the waiting room or on the cliffs while your mate is in the bathroom... Sketchbook at the ready on the dashboard and in the pocket! Paint every day if possible on top of it.

Love the story about the great art dealer you had Jeff, jealous. Here where I live, all the art dealers want you to paint with their "notion" of what is or is not good. They won't even try to sell one of your pieces. Lazy mfers. One even told me in my face comparing," look you paint way better than all these guys in my galleries, but they do these themes that you don't"🤡 Gotta keep looking for good ones.

Enjoyed the interview Jeff, but you two made me chuckle when you weren't sure about the "correct" word for "Indian". LOL I'm Mohawk, in Canada the general term is "Indigenous" or "First Nations" for what you term "Indian" or "North American Indian". But as Logan said, it depends on the individual. In many cases most Indigenous people prefer to be called what we call ourselves in our own language. BTW... while "Mohawk" is typically used, it's not what we call ourselves... in our own language we call ourselves "Kanien'keha:ka" ... Mohawk is a derogatory nickname given to us about 500 years ago. I'm passing this along with kindness, I enjoy very much what you bring to the community, nia:wen

You know who started that starving artist thing? Michelangelo. He went around in rags while having the modern equivalent of 4 million dollars, saying how poor he was. The impressionists romanticized it, and teachers who went to school in the sixties, making modern ab-x stuff, took it to be fact. Those teachers were my teachers. The luxury market does well no matter the economy. Art is a luxury commodity and one of the few that gained value in 2008.

Strange to me that neither of them mentioned the art center in Pasadena where a lot of the papa painters came out of …and neither of them have mentioned any women . Was this a men’s only school?
