I adopted a 5 year old Cane Corso female, and the shelter wanted to reinforce to me that I would have to pay to return her, she was returned twice.....and it ended there. I've had her for 3.5 years now - and she is the BEST most beautiful dog ever. I took her to a trainer because she weighed more than me.....but I am the alpha, and she is the BABY!! We adopted a dog from a place that had a whole large litter in one small run. They warned us that she always would escape. They told us to keep her locked up. When we got her home we thought we had made a mistake. She was going crazy in the crate. We live on a farm so we decided that we had to let her go and let the chips fall where they may. We had her for 12 years. She never left our farm on her own once. She was one of the best dogs we have ever had.

I adopted a pitbull from our local shelter. Brought her home, she ate windowsills, holes in the wall, the futon in the room. I ordered all natural dog calming pills from Amazon. She was able to calm down nicely, and is now a goofy love bug ! Smart as neck which is probably one reason she was so stressed ! Great dog, all she needed was stress free help. Don't take on the dog unless you are really going to "rescue" them. I am loved !! ❤❤❤❤❤

I own a Cane Corso pound's really don't know enough about the breed. My 5 yr old Corso is the biggest baby. He doesn't realize how strong he really is. I got him for the farm not as a pet. He sleeps in my bed when he wants and has bad social anxiety since we Lost his brother when they were 9 week's old . There highly intelligent. And alot of people get them and I don't Care who says thing's happen. If you know things happen then you aren't a good candidate for the Corso. You make it work they get very attached and are great family dog's.everyday with my Corso is like a Scooby Doo cartoon.

3 years ago I went to my local shelter to shop for a dog. I was introduced to a 6 yr old pittie mix that nobody wanted. We were placed in a room so we can get to know each other. She was all over me like a cheap suit when the lady from the shelter came into the room to see how we were doing. Abby did not leave my side, she was asking me in the best way she knew for me to take her home with me. She's been with me since that first meeting. I believe she picked me. In the 3 years we've been together, she has never done anything wrong in the house and when she thinks she has, she apologizes in the cutest ways. Abby is my 4th shelter dog and every one of them have been sweethearts. Abby is now in training to get her certificate to be able to visit nursing homes and children's hospitals.

I was just trying to get him out to play, he was so anxious, but he needed love. I looked in his eyes and with sarcasm said “ oh I don’t like you” and gave him a kiss. his big puppy eyes stole my heart. I fostered him, foster failed. He never left. He indeed picked me. It's disappointing how little effort some people put into coping with an animal. My dog has been through serious trauma and will still charge me due to his guarding nature. He's 90 lbs and was a difficult situation to deal with initially. After 4 years, I can't imagine my life without him and he's an amazing dog. Like all people, each dog has something about them that is unique or may require extra time/training. It's absolutely worth it

We have experienced the same thing with our rescue. We loved her from the beginning but she took a bit to trust us. She still has some issues but she is so much happier and that is all we wanted. We got her in January 2020 which turned out to be great timing because we were all home all day as she got more comfortable. Three years later, she is now great with us (most people) but she has some problems with anxiety and can be aggressive with other animals. We just work around her issues and treasure her. If we had just reacted to her behavior when we got her and returned her because she took extra time and care, we would’ve missed out. Everyone, people and animals, needs an adjustment period to recover from trauma. Thank you for supporting animals.

I rescued two pit bull, Sharpae, and Dachsund. They were under 2 weeks old and didn't even have their eyes open good. They both had Parvo and one had an ulcer on her eye. But they were so bonded. I got them up to the point that they were healthy and ready for adoption and they would scream when seperated. I tried to explain that they were so bonded that they spit in their crate with their laws around each other but the rescue facility said they don't adopt siblings out together because it causes behavior problems. Well, it wasn't a foster fail, it was an adopt success. They are both with me, a little over a year old and happy, healthy, and very interactive. I'm so happy to have them with my other 2 rescue dogs who are chihuahua mixes. We make a great pack and a loving family.

Unfortunately, he got a rare, aggressive cancer from lack of neutering (I had it done, but was warned it could be too little, too late) & Vet care. He was given just 2 weeks, but made it 3 mos! His fighting spirit never left, even trying to attack the Vet! We take solace in knowing that poor little dog finally knew what it was to be loved, not beaten & what a dogs life should have been. We adopted an 8 yr old gentle giant. He'd been abused, returned to the shelter 3 times, and had a rap sheet the size of a dictionary. it took time to build trust. We've had him 3 yrs now and he is such a different dog. It didn't happen over night but he is in his forever home and such a great big brother to our mini Aussie. You have to give them time to adjust. They are not puppies. They have PTS just like humans. But once they realize they have a forever home, they will be the best dogs ever. Hope Logan finds his forever home.

When kids play together with friends, it is rather obvious that you wouldn’t leave a rather protective dog with kids alone. Training is crucial in the early days and with a rescue immediate training along, with the love and human protection, the decompression is allowed, but the owners are the Alpha from the start and family and a mutual respect and deep love is formed, but reinforcing the Alpha and training ongoing with regards to stranger interactions and children, who also must respect certain rules themselves.

Rocky, I have to tell ya... this episode made me cry. I could feel the pain that that big, beautiful puppy was enduring after being returned to the shelter. All he wanted was love.. to love & to be loved. I cried because he was given back (like he wasn't able to know someone ELSE didn't want him) and I cried even more when he was adopted by that family. I pray they love that big boy with everything they have cuz I know he's gonna be giving them even more than that. Thank you for all you do.

These animals know where they are and what's happening. Logan has tears in his eyes. Poor baby. I rescued my baby from the shelter. He had so many issues. He was horribly abused. He even had food aggression. It's been almost 3 years and he has come such a long way. He went from food aggression and attacked me the first month I had him, to now free-feeding and sharing a bowl with his brother. I'm so proud of him. It really does take a special kind of patience to help these babies work through their issues and let the dog come through that they really are.

I adopted a Chihuahua. The shelter gave her a chip, spayed her and did all the right things. Thanks, guys! But they didn’t tell us, Ginger had been returned to the shelter 3 times, and so nervous about being abandoned. My husband is a mechanic so was test driving a vehicle. He just scooped her up, put her in the vehicle and drove down the road. Ginger started shaking and threw up. Come to find out, she thought he was taking her back to the pound. Now we know. We put her in and harness her up and talk excitedly about where we’re going and what she will get to do. Lots of love! 💖

Oh poor Logan. It makes it that much harder for them to trust when they do end up with a family who will give them the love and care they deserve! We aren't a dog home for a few reasons, but we took in a cat from a shelter who'd been starved and who else knows what. She wasn't quite 2yo when we got her and it took her nearly ten years to trust us fully. We thought her being aloof was just her nature, but there was this blossoming that happened all of a sudden and then she was pretty much a regular, sweet cat, but MAN, ten years of love and care to get there. I actually had people tell me I should give her back, like what the heck?! She would literally never have trusted anyone again.

I know from first-hand experience, having raised now three puppies, and soon to be a fourth for service work. I don't understand this crate fashion in USA, here the dogs have their bed or if they are outside dog they got a shelter (properly good taking dogs I mean) even our huskies had their blankets in the winter,a roof and a hard plastic curtain to shelter them , and in summer time they were inside

@@tazylab6233 I cannot understand it too. If you really want to have crate leave it open. How can anyone who just adopted a traumatized dog think it is ok to lock him up in a crate ? You have to be really stupid or evil to do that. Unbelievable. Those people do not deserve a dog.
@JWildberry
@JWildberry 9 ай бұрын
@@teddyboef2821 I'm strongly against crate use, but the propaganda from pet stores and pet product companies have been really successful in many countries, including mine. People think crates are needed to keep their pets safe, and that crates make the pets FEEL safe too. "Dogs are den animals," people argue when I talk about crates being bad. So it's not really stupidity, it's a combination of false information from trusted sources, as well as a lack of experience. It's like if a plumber tells you that it's safe to turn on the water when it's not. If you know nothing about plumbing, you end up trusting someone with more experience and knowledge on the subject. The problem is that most dogs will adapt quickly, and in time they become so used to their crate that "he loves his crate" even if they've simply learned to surrender. And so the myth moves from person to person, and experienced dog owners teach new dog owners to lock their dogs in little cages.

The best thing we like about you is because you don’t give up on dog and cat and even if they get returned you don’t give up on them ♥️♥️

I would love Logan...what a shame the human adopters had no idea how to handle such a large, emotional fur baby. I cannot imagine putting Logan in a😮 cage right away! People like those adopters do more damage to these rescue dogs. Hoping for you, Logan!!!❤❤❤

If you've never been around a cane Corso or petted one before, their little fur is like velvet. It's so soft. They're such sweet dogs.

But a very difficult breed. Not for first time dog owners or people without yards.

Its not an easy breed doh. As a dog trainer I dont recomment a cane corso to someone who dont have a lot of space or dont do much exercice. If the energy is not spend, they can be a challenge. Not always ok with smaller animals too... But such a majestic dog! 😊

It makes me so sad. My dog was brought back to the shelter after being adopted. I could feel her grief those first months. She had been a mama when she was found originally. She was taken from her 5 pups, her admittedly not great home, then was brought back after being adopted because she didn't get along with the other dogs. I took her home days after she was brought back. I never had to work so hard to gain a dog's trust, but she's so worth it.

They are are aren't they well worth it. I had a hard to home, reckless rebel. She danced to her own drum and the music was heartbeat.

I've volunteered for six years with our local humane society in training and behavior, so really appreciate these clips. It is a lot of what I do, and it's true, I get so much more than I give. And I am so so happy when one of the dogs I've worked with gets adopted. I also have experienced the disappointment of a dog being returned. For me personally, adopting a dog is similar to a marriage vow -- in sickness and health, til death do us part.
New shelter intake frozen from fear until this happens..
