3 years ago I rescued a 3 yr old cat, who was in shelters for about 6 months, I found him in the room they labeled "the shy room". For about 2 years he would occasionally come near me but jumped away if I tried to hold him. Within the last year he has changed, he now cannot wait for me to sit down so he can jump on my lap and actually gets irritated when I need to get up. Patience has paid off.

I did a similar thing years ago. I fostered 2 cats from Petsmart. brother and sister semi-feral. after a couple of months, Robbie shredded his card and just jumped into my lap! his sister, Elle, was more reserved and it took another month for her to shred her card! they both got adopted together and were very happy in their furrever home

When I foster and rehabilitate dogs that come from hoarding situations or dogs that have gone feral patience is the #1 thing that helps the dog. Not treats, training, exercise but having the compassion and kindness that comes from the bottom of your heart to let them take all of the time they need to heal and trust. Thank you for taking the time with your kitty and letting them find their way through your love.

Yes, I found a female Schnauzer on Dec 27 on the road. She was so matted, full of fleas, had cuts and insect bites all over, it was sad. I brought her home, cleaned her up and doctored the cuts. She kept getting sick when she ate. After worming, probiotics, treats for her skin, and finding the right food she's better. She has gradually after 2 months let me rub her belly then this past weekend she actually laid next to me. She the sweetest, most gentle girl. I gave her space and let her get accustomed to her surroundings. It just takes time and trust.

Maybe as a "this is entering a safe place" sort of effect, have the real audio as he's entering the room but as soon as he sits down, have it drain out leaving him and the dog in this almost bubble of calm to show that's what he's offering the dog?

I live up in the Santa Cruz area, in the hills right next to a state park, lots of fresh air, sunshine, and play time. Already have 2 German Shepherds (Zeke, the gentle giant and Kaia, the lightning bolt of love and fur). They are loved to the farthest ends of the universe and back again. My last rescue baby was abandoned during Katrina. She had severe separation anxiety and only responded to me. She was 3 when I got her and 17 when she passed away in my arms. These babies you're saving will have that unique bond because they KNOW you're saving them, but really, they're the ones saving us. ❤

@@ebybeehoney Same here! We lost both of our GSD in 2023. We adopted a small GSD female a couple of months ago. She had been turned over to rescue due to not letting home health care in. It became apparent that she had been neglected and abused. She has so much fear..we are being very patient with her. She changes for the better each day. She is very smart and she is learning that life can be good! I ask her every morning if she is happy here and she gives me a kiss….so I think she is! She is helping us and we are helping her so it’s a win win. I so wish I lived closer so I could adopt this little girl. I hope she gets her forever home soon😊

@@rockykanaka Her head was raised up the whole time from the onset of you first joining her and actually in a fixed position of posture with her head tilted round towards you intently focused on your voice, and by this alone I seen many positive signs from this little girl in the way of great progress and full normality. You are so right we got our Maggie from a kill shelter and she was in the back corner with her nose to the ground never looked up. I said I wanted to get her and we did she had no idea hair from the middle of her body all the way back. We took her straight to our vet and it took about six months to get her better. Maggie is now 15 years old that we have had her so yes she is older but we said her life started when we got her and she is the love of this house ❤

This is exactly the dog I would adopt. ❤ There is so much potential in these beautiful sweet creatures. I adopted a shut down dog when I was very in need of a dog’s love. She became a sweet, loving, loyal companion. To help her open up, I would lay on the sofa and bring her up on my torso. She would relax and fall asleep there. This was how we bonded.

I'm currently trying to rebuild my life after a burnout and severe liver disease. To that goal, I'm taking psychology classes as an auditor to keep me busy and it blows my brain the amount of psychology you use with dogs that also would work on people. You're an inspiration and a pleasure to watch. Currently can't get a dog because of my lodgings but it's definitively my top priority to help a dog out.

Rocky, many years ago, my parents brought home a dog from the shelter on Okinawa where Dad was stationed. Charcoal was a black Chow mix. He was scared of everything until he got sick about a week after he came home. He was so weak, Mom had to spoon water into his mouth to get him to drink, and give his medicines the same way. By the time he got better, he was our devoted friend and protector. He loved going to the beach with us. He must have eaten a lot of fish because he wouldn't eat dog food, but loved canned cat food. He was the best dog ever! Don't be afraid to take home that scared shelter dog. You might just find a treasure.

My dog wouldn't eat normal dog food. She ate a lot of human food. Her favorite was spaghetti and I know it's probably not the best thing for a dog but she lived to be 17.

Why do people do this to these poor babies??? Don't get one and abandon it! Im so heart broken. I love German shepperds. My favorite dogs. I adore my 3yr old girl, Stormie. Id die without her. I want to buy land and take every stray GSD in and give them the best home ever. Id take her if i lived near Cali but i live in Pa. This really bothers me in my soul. I can't believe u guys are calling her Bobbi! Stormies nickname is Bobbi sox!!! She answers to both names! That really warms my heart. Boy, i wish i could get her 🥹

Today was the first time that I watched your show. What a wonderful man you are for being a voice for these beautiful animals. I love, love animals. I have four rescues my self. 2 cats and 2 dogs. @@rockykanaka Absolutely!!! I have fur-baby nose prints on all my windows, dog hair (fur) on all the furniture and my clothes, and I need to vacuum 50 times a day… but I wouldn’t trade any of them… even for an immaculate house… which mine doesn’t even come close… lol

Every time I see the dogs so sad, not daring to move or look, feeling so abandoned and full of fear, it makes me cry. Then when’s they’re touched and hear sweet word, they come to life again. 🙏🙏 to give them some trust again

OMG, I had a female "mini GSD" almost exactly her size who passed just over 3 years ago. She was also a stray that someone turned in. Sweet Bobbi is really tugging every last one of my heart strings, like the reincarnation of my girl.

If I were able, I would adopt her in a second! Thank you and God Bless you for your work with these animals. We are the problem, not the dogs!!! The wife and I have only ever adopted dogs, They are so deserving of all the love they can get. Our latest is a mixed breed small dog with a huge attitude. The shelter itself was closed after we rescued him do to mis treating dogs. Frozen water bowls, nasty pens, so sad. Our dog named Bugsy, has totally came out of his shell, it just took time and love, that they all deserve!!!.

As I watch this my beloved rescuer, a 14 year old girl, Mon Ami is not doing so well. She had a terrible existence in this life, until she rescued me and we tried to remedy all the wrongs. I am so grateful to you, Kelly and Alexsis for giving so much of yourselves to help create families of the two legged and four legged kinds. This is what you were meant to do in this life. When you started telling her you love her and she is brave for seeking help and that you are proud of her...all that made me tear up. Animals and people need someone like you in their lives.
