@Kevin Wright the final challenge for recruits in boot camp before graduating and becoming Marines. It is a 3 day test that's insane. each marine gets only 2 MRE's for the challenge so basically 2 smalls meals you must conserve as much as possible all while doing the Crucible. on top of that you only get about 2 hours a sleep each day and you are tested mentally and physically literally every second even while sleeping. the DI's routinely patrol at night while recruits are getting their 2 hours and attempt to steal your M16 rifle from you, should they succeed well you are dead for sure. the trick is to use the sling to tie it to your arm or leg , worked for me they just ended pulling my entire body awake until I pounced to my feet rdy to engage (not literally DIs are lethal ). The tests are incredible physical challenges and obstacle courses you would have to see to believe, with live fire and sounds to simulate warfare. Marines like to say Forged By Fire. The stats are as follows 54 Hours 48 Miles 45 LBS of Gear 35 Warrior Stations 29 Team Building Excercises 6 hours of sleep 2 MRE's

Look at it like this. When you watch DI videos on KZfaq there's no trying to remember anything and no pressure to not screw up. In actual boot camp it's 88 days of hell. But it does gets better. Only advice I can give is this. No matter what you do your wrong. Once you understand that they will mess with you just because, then it becomes bareable.

I leave for Marine Corps Bootcamp in 6 days. I'm going into this pretty well versed on all that will happen during my time there, but I'm sure reading forums and watching videos doesn't compare to the atmosphere of actually going through it all. I'm not all too nervous about anything in particular, except for my cardio. As an ex-wrestler, I understand the importance of having good stamina and such. I know I probably could've trained more (as in running before shipping ) but... I didn't and I'll just have to deal with it. I'm only writing this to see how naive I was before shipping. I know that I am only gonna be one marine and that I more than likely won't matter too much to anyone, but as I said before - this is little spill is for me and something to hold me accountable to. I started thinking about joining the Marine Corps back in 2014, the year my brother graduated from Paris Island. I was in middle school at the time and I remember seeing my brother for the first time in several months... Man, he looked so fcking cool. After that, I used to mention that my brother was in the Corps anytime I got Lol. "Oh yeah, that's sucks you got a C? Oh well, I got an A and oh yeah my brothers a Marine." - Lol wasn't that bad, but you get it. A little later when I got in high school I started wrestling and I became good friends with this kid and we started training together. At the time, my mom was going through a lot so, my friend and his family took me in. I honestly can't be more thankful for them. During my time with my friend, I met his stepdad and he was tanker for the Marines. He was a cool dude and would cook the most bomb ribs. Towards the end of my senior year, I realized I haven't done shit for my future. I didn't apply for any scholarships, I didn't visit anywhere and kind of felt left behind my piers. And it's not like I was dumb or anything I graduated with a 4.26 GPA and was 5x state qualifier for track and field. I honestly just didn't know what I wanted to do for my future. So I went to talk to my brother to ask him how the Marines was for him because at the time I started considering the military. He told me," Well if you want to go into the Marines, don't. Go join Navy or Air Force." So I took this information with me and headed to a recruiting center near me and I signed my papers to be in the dept to become a United States Marine! All I can say is thank you to my brother for those encouraging words and I can't wait to become a Marine! (I'll edit my post whenever I hopefully get through Paris Island!) 2019-10-01 Edited 20200501 Hey! uhh, I did it, I became a Marine! Sorry, it took me so long to update this comment. I totally forgot I did this. But to my surprise, it got some attention. Well here's my thoughts on Bootcamp - Long 13 weeks lemme tell you! And it's not as intense as you think it will be. It's nowhere close to Full Metal Jacket, or like as "painful", you think it may be. For me the only hard part was being away from my family. Shits tough. You never really realize how much they mean to you and how much you miss them until that first letter. (about 2 weeks in). Once I got that first letter I was in tears man... pretty much everyone who got letters was crying. And that for me was the like first realization that "We are in the suck together ". After a while, you get used to the day to day things, like waking up at 4 am in the morning / then chow right after cleaning the squad bay / then go to morning pt ( The sun wasn't even up) then pt till the sun just about raises ( Around 7-8, pt for around an hour to 1.5 hours ) / then go back to squad bay and get cleaned up. / Head to class. / Sit in class for what seems like hours. / Go to chow / then go back to class / then leave class and learn how to drill or get fcked with by your DI's. / then go to evening chow - That's pretty much the first phase. Here's some advice for you for Bootcamp; you should and will live by this quote, "Live chow to chow, day to day, Sunday to Sunday." ( It'll make more sense once you get there. Lol ) / Fcking put out and be the loudest. The DI"s want to see you put tf out. They may seem like they hate you, and that's because they do. But in the end, they want to see you become Marines. / If you want to become (1) Guide or (4) squad leader, ( These billets usually get meritoriously promoted coming out of Bootcamp. ) Be fucking loud, scream your lungs out. Oh and learn how to drill. - ask one of your recruiters and practice it. It may sound and look dumb at first, but if you want to succeed and go from a Pvt to a PFC, as I did coming out of BC, then you better learn how to drill. If you want to know more about Bootcamp or like have any questions feel free to msg me on Instagram @Thaitutt / I'll be more than obliged to answer all questions about my experience thus far in the Marine Corps. Semper Fi. Edited 20210905 Greetings again! This is another update! I recently just picked up Cpl ( E-4 ) and doing so under my first 2 years of being in! This was a big goal of mine so now onto the next, being a Sgt! As for my job, I am a RADAR Technician. I work on radars that help ATC see aircraft and guide them in. I know it's not what most think of when you say you're a Marine, but it is what it is. I very much enjoy my job and all the knowledge that comes with it. For me, I didn't join the military to see action or go fight the bad guys. I am using the military as my first step into adulthood. Now many would say my reasons to join are wrong and that I'm a pussy for doing so, but I mean it's the truth. So I'd advise many of you, youngsters, to look for other paths than the military. Try for college, make good grades, and go for scholarships. Don't be dead set on joining the military and specifically not the Marine Corps. If you are wanting to serve there are other options, such as the Navy and Air Force ( pussies go to the Army ). I had Navy peers going through the same schoolhouse as me in Pcola, but when they graduated they had 10k waiting for them. I on the other hand had zip, zilch, nothing waiting for me.// I understand that money may not be a factor in your choice of branch, but it was for me. I grew up poor with a single mom and I was too naive/ stubborn to go and talk to the other branches. My main goal in life is to have financial stability and a family to take care of. I encourage you, youngsters, to go to the different branches and check out what they have to offer. And if you're dead set on being a Marine then please think about other MOS's than being a grunt or the infantry. Yeah, it may sound cool and stuff but there are other MOS's that help your future in the long run. I know a lot of grunts and infantry who get out and don't have many options in life other than being security/ policeman work. That's 4 years of destroying your body with rucks and exercises to just get out and be right where you started when you joined. And when you do join take advantage of TA and get some college classes done while you are in. It also helps you rank up and saves you money if you plan on using your BAH when you get out. Semper Fi Marines.

Heres how to survive from a old timer which took me awhile to learn myself. Do what your told WHEN your told to do it!!! Simple enough huh?? WRONG. When you got 3 seconds to shave left side of face and get back on line then you get back on line on 3 seconds with a razor stuck in your face and cream falling down. Its simply testing you to follow orders. They know you cant shave in 3 seconds...they just want to see who will stop and get back on line AS ORDERED and who stands around a few more seconds trying to finish the shave. They wont be pissed if you return to line as ORDERED with only a half done face. Thats a order that was given and you immediately carried it out., That pleases them. More than likely. I know I stood on line many times with shave cream all over my face and blood running out of my cuts...but I was ordered to stop and get out. The guys who panicked and hung back trying to finish were the ones in deep shit. The recruits that immediately stopped shaving and ran back to line each time often were rewarded with being able to go back and finish shaving until your done.. The DI knows you cant shave in 3 seconds...its just a exercise to see who can follow orders. .if anybody is going to the island keep that in mind. Always without any hesitation do what they tell you to do!!! If your not done getting some clothes on or anything just go to the line when ordered even if your underwear is over your head instead of your ass. Might look like a idiot but you FOLLOWED ORDERS and thats what gets you off Parris Island alive, happy, and damn proud!!

I settled for law enforcement but I always think to myself today, over 20 years later- What if? I've been blessed more than I deserve and things turned out for the best. One of the only true "regrets" in life is not joining the military when I had the opportunity to. My life was on track to go that way, when I was 16-18 I was motivated to do it, I was staying in shape, exercising after school at the gym 4 times a week or so, was probably in the best shape of my young adult life. I had already been talking to recruiters, gave them all my information. The Marines recruiter I talked to was probably the nicest adult I had ever met at that time in my life. He called my house often to speak with me actually, which I thought was a little weird but awesome at the same time. It wasn't even like he was bugging me about signing the papers because I wasn't even 17 yet so I couldn't but he'd check in every so often. I hadn't decided on going Navy or Marines yet but he was definitely swaying me I remember. Either way, everything changed when I met a girl and my naive selfish self wanted nothing to do with the service and everything to do with having a really attractive girlfriend and everything that came with that like partying, drinking, doing stupid adolescent shit. I remember it being the first "serious" long-term relationship I had ever been in and it was all I cared about, pretty typical teenager stuff. So yeah, being in my mid 30's now, when I watch videos like this it always makes me reflect on my life choices around that time. My life worked out ok with the path I chose so I really can't complain but I still have that sort of longing that comes with wanting to be a part of something greater and to serve a country I dearly love, just as my relatives did. Nothing but the utmost love and respect for our servicemen and women. Thank you and God speed.

RetroCNY I’m joining the Marines and I know I should be excited but at the same I’m really scared, not because of the training but because I might fuck up and get at everyday. Some part of me telling me not to go and some part of me saying don’t be a pussy and do it. I really wanna do it but at the same I feel like I don’t. I don’t want to make regrets later in my life that I miss something awesome. But right now fuck it whatever happens.

My brother is a Marine. I'm Air Force/Space Force. He has an amazing military pickup truck. I have a prius. We both served. There is no comparison between branches. But there was no way I was going to be the black sheep. All of my family served, and I continue to serve. I once asked my brother if I could make it in Marine Corps boot camp. He said that "I know you have the determination, but I don't think you could deal with the bullshit." Love all my brothers in arms.

I may have survived cancer, had multiple surgeries, and been stuck more times than a pincushion, but I very much doubt I would last more than 72 hours (and I'm being extremely generous in my estimate) in Marine Corps training. Technically, I probably wouldn't be fit for military service anyhow, as I remember taking a phone survey with someone from the Armed Forces when I was 18, and when I gave him my height and weight, he asked, "Do you have any friends who'd be interested in joining the military?" Nevertheless, to all the men and women in the Marines (and the Armed Forces in general), I salute and respect you.

It's like that on purpose. When you're learning how to shoot they want you to soak up the fundamentals and actually use them. They're purposely not putting stress on you when you learn to shoot because if you're stressed, you're probably not going to learn anything. After you've learned the fundamentals and shoot correctly, then you'll learn stress shooting later on.

Great memories despite having been in the Army. I however met some outstanding Marines during my time, and worked with one of a kind human beings. Semper Fidelis to all the awkward military cousins, and godspeed to those that are still carrying the fight.

gamersfun98 dude, right now, I’m in high school and taking JROTC (you should know what that is btw if you don’t then oh well). I’m gonna go to college to join regular ROTC. Then I’m either going to become a firefighter or I’m gonna join the service. That’s only one of the ideas for my life after high school. I have backup plans as well.

I leave for bootcamp in 2 days. I know it will be hard, but I know that it is mostly mental. I am physically capable of pulling through, now I just need to mentally develop throughout bootcamp in order to graduate. Luckily, I’ll also have the grace of God on my side as well to help me when times get tough. Wish me luck, guys. See y’all in 13 weeks.

It's not fun- it's miserable. Slowly after each week it gets tolerable and acceptable. Initially, there is no toilet paper, you can't go to the restroom but when told- they tell you when to do everthing. People just dont get it. It's a lot of bullshit.

You guys are crying about the USMC how hard and difficult it is. Join the Dutch Marines. The Dutch Marines are the best marines in Europe. You need sleep in the forest for 1 week each month (3 at the barracks and 1 in the forest with almost no food and heavy bags) you need to walk 20 + miles with heavy bags and take big steps every time. Dutch Marines is more harder than the USMC, believe me!

I remember being greeted at the airport before heading to the base in Texas for Air Force basic training. Picking up and setting down the suitcase over and over and over again while all these people were walking by staring at us! I sure don't miss those early days of boot camp!

I'm a Marine veteran from the 1970s. I still respect the Corps and its training, as well as the values that it instills into your future adulthood. There are differences I noticed though in this training video compared to what Marines of my era experienced. Two notable ones; back then the DI's could rough you up physically and often did. Also on the firing line, we weren't issued ear protection of any kind. Could be why I have marked hearing loss in both ears as well as severe Tinnitus in my left ear. Of course, being a 'grunt' in combat didn't help either. No offense to WM's; but, we didn't have co-ed basic training either. I went through basic at MCRD, San Diego, CA. Always Faithful!

LOL - Ear plugs? We had none of that when I was in the Corps! My ears are still ringing from all the live fire exercises we did! Damn tinnitus I forgot about the old air strip where we did the Crucible. I remember doing the hand grenade toss, some moron dropped it in the fighting hole but the instructor was aware enough to pick it up and toss it in time
