This Tidioute #29 Stockyard Whittler is a cool and different knife from GEC. It is extremely well made. Don't forget to follow me on social media @KnifeThoughts and check out KnifeThoughts.com for full articles on this knife and others like it!

Logan, As very old dude new to traditional slip joint knives and in particular GEC I am using your young blood knowledge to help me along through the learning process and that aspect of my interest I find to be a beautiful thing, the young teaching the old. Carry on Young Blood you deserve far more patronage for your efforts and thoroughness and I hope to see your channel grow as it should.

Thanks for the great review. I have this knife and the Osage Orange version, which I love. It is very interesting to compare this knife to the #86 Oil Field Jack. The secondary sheepsfoot in these two knives is the exact same blade and the main clip point blade on the #29 is about 70% of the blade on the #86. So if you like the #86, you can get the #29 and carry a smaller and lighter knife with basically the same (or close) #1 and #2 blades, plus an awl.

Liked the video. I just ordered a Maher & Grosh. This knife reminds me of the older workhorse whittler which I sold a while back. Regretted it ever since. Didnt think the awl would do it for me, but it looks good seeing the knife get handled. Thanks for sharing

It's a great pattern, and one which is impressing me more as I carry it. Comfortable in hand, with every type of blade you'd need in an EDC - a flat blade, a blade with belly, and a poker! I've one in Stag which is (almost) too beautiful to carry, and another in Blood Red JB which is my more frequent user - would love to find one in Snakewood to complete a Northfield trio. For some reason I find the pinched and lined bolsters of the Northfield trim really enhance this pattern, whereas more often I prefer the simpler Tidioute trim.

I bought the Oage Orange version of this. I actually do a lot of whittling, and the punch is great for diging out holes in wood and other things you do when whittling on a stick.

The SAKs with the awl at the end like the Farmer are very popular and it's multi use including striking a ferro rod, I really like this knife you have here. Unfortunately, there is only the occasional GEC sold in the UK, bad for UK traditionals collectors, good for my wallet!

GEC flopped on the #29 Snakewood run. Half of the Snakewood pre-orders were canceled. The Bloodwood #29s were made to fill in the void. I bet I was the first snakewood pre-order on the web. I got shafted. Great Eastern Cutlery is the "DICK TEASE" of American knife makers. I ended up saving $6 and a free brown slip on the #29 Burnt Sienna jigged bone knife. I ended up saving $20 on the #29 Bloodwood knife. I just bought a NOS #93 Rams Foot natural micarta knife for $69 shipped. My GEC dealer got some #93s left over from Rendezvous 2019. I am going to dye my #93 micarta knife with navy blue leather dye. My GEC collection is shaping up nicely.

I purchased the same knife. Just received it today. I'm a little surprised in the amount of back spring gapping. There are gapping issues between each spring. Will that effect the performance or longevity of the knife ?
@KnifeThoughts

Hmm, I'm surprised by that also. No, it shouldn't be a practical issue whatsoever.

@@KnifeThoughts I called DLT about it. They pulled three 29's and all 3 had light coming threw the back springs. You can't see any gapping unless you hold the knife up to a light or sunlight.

@@KnifeThoughts yea I'm ok with it to. I just thought the knife might not be as strong as it would be if those springs were flat and flush. I still love the knife and it's beautiful in my opinion. I just want to be sure it will not effect the strength of the knife. All my knives get used and used extremely hard being a mechanic. Thanks for your input Logan I appreciate your help and opinion greatly.
