Finally! A new Oregon Joint Line video to watch. Seriously, of all the operations videos I've watched on KZfaq, yours have been the ones I've enjoyed most. I've watched all your yard ops videos multiple times.

really adore these videos and really enjoy the ops of this small but busy yard. seems to always have something to do.

There's a ton of far out railroad operations videos but very few as exquisite as this one. Freight interlines everyday everywhere and you demonstrated this very well. Track plan very well designed, scenery was top notch, and the radio chatter just topped everything off. My interline railroad will never come close to this!

The UP transfer crew was a bit bummed because the A&M crew was still at lunch, while the NP crew arrived later and says, "You guys provide good service." Just to add to the Uncle Pete transfer's misery... they also get held up at Silvies on their way back, "Look's like another 12-hour day on the UP." Too funny.

After watching a number of your videos I'm starting to understand why the UP crew is so unhappy
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41254 жыл бұрын
The idea is that they're at the end of a long branchline, far from any other UP operations. So they're largely forgotten by their own company and have to fend for themselves.

Love your ops videos! Those UP guys really get the shaft, don't they? Haha!
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41253 жыл бұрын
thanks Joey! The idea is that this particular UP crew is at an extremely remote corner of the system. So the closest trainmaster in Nampa, ID largely ignores them and they're forced to fend for themselves when it comes to dealing with the NP and the A&M.

The lead the logger heads out of at the end of the switching day is a single track and you reset the train between operating sessions? I like this addition to the layout a lot. Very cool, and thanks for sharing.
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41254 жыл бұрын
That's right - since the entire scene was added well after the layout was built the staging track is squeezed into the benchwork and is a major pain to access, especially if there's a derailment. I've been getting rid of all those ultralight derailment-prone Micro-Trains cars and replacing them with the heavier Walthers (now Atlas) cars and this area has become a lot more fun to operate.
@NaomiClareNL4 жыл бұрын
Love that shot of the NP leaving. I think it would make a cool module by its own. What is the size of this area. Also, what are the track capacities? Thanks.
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41254 жыл бұрын
thanks! It covers a space of roughly 4' x 6'. The siding is the longest track holding 10 cars, the wye legs are 5 and 6 cars.

@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41252 жыл бұрын
the log trucks are from Trainworx - it was a one time release. By chance the log truck they released matched a prototype that was used in Eastern Oregon in the late 60's!

What does the Burns local do? Does it just interchange at Silvies and the A&M Mill? Or does it work some of the industries at Emigrant? I know the NP Emigrant turn runs there, curious how Emigrant is switched in general.
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41253 жыл бұрын
thanks for your question - at some point I'll put together a video on the Burns Local - it really does take most of a session to run (another 12 hour day on the UP). It comes out of staging at Emigrant (a single track) and passes industries they serve on UP track until junctioning with the NP towards the south end of Emigrant siding. Then they run over the NP via trackage rights to Silvies and Westpine to interchange with the NP and A&M. On the return trip they finish up any remaining work at industries on UP track at Emigrant. But they're usually too long to clear the NP main to perform that work so the dispatcher may have them get into the clear on the UP main to let traffic by and then they need to shove back out on the NP main later after traffic clears to finish their industry work. The NP Emigrant Turn switches the Emigrant mill towards the north end of Emigrant siding and then shoves up the hill to spot and pull the ballast pit at Basalt.

Is the yellow piece of tracked equipment on the flat car at the loading dock a yarder? Used by loggers to pull the logs up with an overhead cable system from where they are cut to where they are loaded. For anyone who would not know what a yarder is. It's a very nice model what ever it is. This is an awesome, excellent, amazing layout. Its really nice is what I'm saying. The attention to details and getting things right is perfect. The name West Pine couldn't be any better either. I can't say enough about how nice it is. I always like seeing your videos. Stay well. -Wil 👍

you should do a video of the immigrant turn with the union pacific or northern pacific
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro41253 жыл бұрын
thanks - it's actually Emigrant rather than Immigrant. The term Emigrant was frequently used for people crossing the country in covered wagons and such - so you often see the name associated with the great westward movements such as the Oregon Trail or the California Gold Rush.

Why boxes for the grain?
@oregonjointlinemodelrailro4125 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't uncommon in the late 60's for railroads to still be using 40' boxcars for grain. And I had a huge amount of 40' boxcars waiting to be employed on the layout.
