This is fantastic! I've been looking all around the web for a decent set of Logic tutorials and up until now, they've all pretty much sucked. When it comes to music creation in a DAW, I'm a complete noob. So tired of watching someone mouse around the interface without any context. This guy tells you what he's doing as he's doing it and why. Thank you!!!

I been using Logic for 13 years with my 2009 Mac fiddling about amateurishly without grasping everything and forgetting how I got to places - and how to get out! I used a producer to put my bits together but now need to cut costs and do more myself - for better or for worse. I'm about to get the latest M1 Mac so thought it best to get myself thoroughly well acquainted with how it is now and going forward. Josh .... yours has been, and is, by far the best tutorial anywhere. And more than that, it's up to date. Brilliant presentation!! Thank You!👌

Overall this is a very helpful series. But this #3 episode was like jumping off the high dive platform without learning to swim first. It would have been super helpful to do an overview of the Logic layout, basic terminology, and maybe how to create a track before jumping into a fast-paced tutorial on shortcut commands and adjusting tracks, etc.

At 4:30, when discussing making all tracks the same size, you mention holding down the Shift key and then clicking the divider line. IN ADDITION, you can ALSO hold down the Option key and then click and drag one of the dividers lines, and you can dynamically EQUALLY resize ALL the tracks to whatever size you want. Awesome video series though!

With tempo you can try the BPM counter plugin. For key, you can put the tuner on the channel, and it will identify the note(s) in the sample. Best of luck!

Hey Josh, is there a way to search for instances of a region that have been edited and copied throughout an audio track? EX. I've extensively copied and edited a region, "Cymbals", throughout an audio track and now I want to change the 'clip gain' of the region at bar 5 without inadvertently changing any of the other instances.
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
Clip gain is actually independent on a region by region basis. So you can just use the Gain Tool on that one region, and it will not affect the gain of the other regions.

on your mixer window above each audio track settings option, what is that number 37 with the knob all the way up?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
That is a software controlled gain control for my audio interface. Certain audio interfaces, like mine from Apogee, are compatible with some software controls in Logic. So, if I'm recording and I want to turn up the microphone gain, instead of having even touch the hardware, I can use that knob to adjust the mic gain. Not super helpful unless your hardware is in a rack, far away from you, so I usually just use my hardware. But if you're using a USB microphone, this is really helpful as many of them do not have a physical gain control directly on the mic.

What I still don't get is why, when I choose my LCD display to show certain things, such as time, tempo, whatever, that I can't seem to customize how many decimal places it shows. For example, look at that monstrosity at 8:53! Tempo with 4 decimal places? The "No in" and "no out" for some reason have to take up way more space than required, the timecode is super long as well. Under "custom", we should be able to adjust everything to our liking. Not everyone will have any issues with this, but as someone with a 13 inch macbook air, I need to conserve as much screen real estate as possible. Even with an external monitor, it's difficult for me, at times. Seriously though, just look at how much dead space is within that LCD ...
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you just have an issue with your display resolution. Here, I was using a 5K display on my iMac, but you can make the screen elements smaller by going to Apple > System Preferences/Settings > Displays. Then choose one of the options that offers "more space" rathe than "larger text". Hope that helps.

Like your tutorial but your demo project doesn’t quite work with my setup. My audio interface is set at 48khz for sampling but your project demo is 44.1khz. Whenever I playback the demo, I have error message pops up to say USB sampling rate mismatch. I am using Mac mini M2 chipset OS Sonoma the latest version, audio interface is Yamaha TF1 digital mixer.
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy 2 ай бұрын
44.1 kHz is usually the starting sample rate for most devices. The sample rate of one of your USB devices is set to 48 kHz. You'll need to do two things: (1) if your USB device (probably an audio interface) has a software control panel, change its sample rate to 44.1 kHz. (2) Go into Logic Pro and go to File > Project Settings > Audio and make sure the sample rate is set to 44.1.
