Joe's exactly right. A "true" artist would never sell something they didn't put their heart into. Once you begin to sell out, you no longer care about making true art.

Cool discussion. But Joe said, "Michelangelo ain't give a fuck what niggas (people) thought when he was drawing..." That's not true, Joe. Michelangelo was a great artist, yes. But he never slacked with the business, ever. In fact, if you studied your history, you'd know that Michelangelo is like the earliest paradigm for the 'Prosperous Artist'.....he was one of the first to find that sweet balance between catering to an audience, and still keeping it true. Joe would have been better off referring to Leonardo Da Vinci, or Mozart....those are the guys who really didn't give a fuck....and of course, they died poor. Michelangelo didn't.

Jonathan101 It has so few likes because it's in accurate to the actual point. Michelangelo drew before he was paid for it, he originally started for the art. His art was not dictated by what others said unless he was paid, you seem to just be looking for an opportunity to provide an unneeded history lesson.

Ak is not an artist talking about art. He keeps bringing up music industry, formula, record labels etc.. That's business, not true art. True art isn't jumping on a wave. TRUE art is doing what YOU do NO MATTER what anybody thinks. Which is why the ART gets pushed into different levels. Cardi B IS NOT an artist. She sees a way to make money and she capitalized on it. She has no sound. She is in the business of music. Not IN the music business.

Btw I've been watching all your videos because you talk about the culture that I came across and since then love it: Hip Hop, its great to be updated about the artists and situations in the music business, so Thank You for the show! Akademiks the bit about "true artist" its about being creative. Creativity its free so it aint about the business side of music, its about creating art that wasnt here before and now it is because You made it. Thats what Joe was on about, the Music. Keep up with the show, I'm watching from the UK 👊🏻

So Joe admits Cardi b has no creativity, sees nothing wrong with her having ghost writers and still loves her because she some how works hard but she admits her team do it all for her, by that logic he should love Kodak because that guy drops an album every month, Joe so selective on who he chooses to like or dislike and whos damaging rap, Cardi b a cancer to rap the only good thing she's doing is adding competition in female rap. but I still fuck with that bodak yellow track hard.
@zingGodin
@zingGodin 6 жыл бұрын
Era 404 I think it comes down to expectations, which is super subjective. If you expect Kodak black to display true artistry and be creative and he doesn’t he just makes something that sounds good and rides the wave of whatever’s popular. THEN it’s trash. But if you DONT expect cardi b to forward the culture and be innovative but rather just make something that sounds good, then when she comes out with a banger that sounds like everything else it’s ok. I don’t agree with how he determines what’s trash and what’s not, but I understand what he means.

Logic is being a hypocrit becuase as much as he would want to deny it, he is just a copycat of other bigger artists like Kendrick, J Cole, and in interviews he tells everyone how big of Cole fan he is or how he loves Kendrick. he is basically just the biggest fanboy of rap more than an individual artist

Logic is right, haven’t watched this video fully yet but here is what I think. A TRUE artist makes what they think is good, not what sound is trending or some bullshit with basic lyrics to appeal the audience because a true artist doesn’t make music to always appeal to others it’s for themselves.

Tom Harris a true artist would focus on perfecting his own craft it’s almost like he’s just saying it for attention clearly we all know the different sounds of rap and the fact that people like to ride whatever wave is hot but come on just makes him sound salty true art would and should emerge even if the rap game is over saturated. That honestly tells me more about his own artistry just my opinion

Clearly there is an audience for this music that sounds the same.I see what logic is trying to do by tapping into the whole biracial,suicide shit which makes me question is that really art or just convenience to try and be heard?

MrRebo early mixtapes were battle raps with sharp lyrics, under pressure detailed his life growing up when he was in a darker place and was much deeper lyrics, The Incredible True Story was a more upbeat album about how he was successful and also a conceptual album with the space travel theme (which he came up with), bobby Tarantino was turn up songs meant for having fun touring and live shows (and also bangers riding around in my car lol) and Everybody was a statement album that even I as a fan doesn’t think have a lot of replay value but he got a point or a subject across that means a lot to him. To me I think that’s pretty diverse both lyrically and sonically.

Theres a difference between saying it and making a whole song based on being bi-racial. So if you’re saying he’s making songs all about bi-racial then you’re saying that every other rapper today is rapping about the same shit because there’s NO DOUBT they all talk about “fucking bitches and drugs and money” in every single song.
