Stayed lyrical, talks about real shit, took that and went multi-platinum. Ain't that what we've been asking for? yet people still hate. What is Kendrick doing wrong then?

TriniKidNYC people are grading kendrick on a tougher scale because he put himself in the god catergory with nas,hov,big,pac,3stacks. thats a whole other convo. just because kendrick is easily the best artist out this current rotation doesnt put him on god level. raekwon,scarface,big pun,50 cent,nelly, were all the best artist out of their rotations but are any of them on god level HELL NO kendrick does not have a front to back classic album and no classic mixtape run under his belt. he got work to do to reach that status
@TrinikidHBK
@TrinikidHBK 7 жыл бұрын
All of what you said was either based on nostalgia or pure opinion. He got in that God level discussion because despite him keeping his music conscious, keeping an above average to great level of lyricism as well as having some of the most critically acclaimed catalogues as well as going platinum back to back to back he has now entered that discussion. Mind you, everything I have just said is pure fact no opinion. Wikipedia could tell you that. Raekwon, Scarface, and Nelly(50 might have an argument) have never done what Kendrick is doing, mixing commercial success with critically acclaimed content.

ALL publicity Is good publictity I'm not comparing Drake to them but at the end of the day music is a business. Drakes been on the top 100 consecutively since 09. Even without music Drake has a brand he can sell and a label he represents, now add that to the whole Toronto Raptors thing and ventures he pursues, such as Jordan. Right now Drake ain't near them but in 10 years? Shit he might be past them business wise.

The point I'm making is simple and true. U can debate about how hard Kendrick's verse was on Control, what other song was by Kendrick was harder...whatever. Kendrick called out everyone at one time, in one verse, and bodied them bcuz he had the balls to do it. Now u don't do that not unless u know your are the BEST. U do not call out EVERY hot and relevant rapper unless you KNOW u can. Aubrey is nice do not get me wrong, but he not gonna walk a brotha like Kung Fu Kenny like he did Meek. If u believe that...u just a go hard Drake fan. I fuck with both but Drake don't won't know smoke with Kendrick.

"Kendrick Lamar is overrated" Do y'all even know what the word "overrate" means? -"have a higher opinion of (someone or something) than is deserved" So all of you that claim Kendrick is overrated believe that the catalog of music that he's released, hasn't allowed him to decisively be named the best, or even the GOAT when it's all said and done? Section.80? GKMC? TPAB??? DAMN.? Even Overly Dedicated, you can't listen to all of these projects full length and not hold Kendrick to a higher pedestal above his peers. All I see in the comments is people calling him overrated because of fans that ride him too much, and because his main competition is mediocre (WHAT ARE THESE REASONINGS). I guess you have to do more than drop back to back classics to call yourself the best.

This beef is non-existent. It's just a annoying squabble between the hottest artist in hip hop. Which is incredibly corny... get in the booth or STFU. Kendrick is a better lyricist by far but if there really was going to be beef then Kendrick would've initiated it on the heart part IV, ironically tip toeing around drakes name while saying that drake is doing the same thing

Kendrick don't have to say Drake or Big Sean's name on any song until they say his name on a song. He already did that on Control. Now it's time for them to attack.

Romy Taylor no, I'm saying Kendrick has already called all them out. I don't think he has anything to prove by saying their names now. He proved hes not scared to address people, now it's time for his "adversaries" to do the same
@LUCASRAMON2100

Romy Taylor No it would get him respect. Hip hop is a competitive artform, show some competence when someone calls you a lil bitch or calls you and alot of the big artists out on your own song. Not saying something just makes you look bad, especially when you still saying shit in interviews about the control verse years later.

Hate me all ya want but the only other rappers besides Drake and Cole I feel like can compete with Kendrick in his considered criteria if they possessed more acknowledgement and spotlight are Big K.R.I.T A$AP Rocky Travis Scott Logic Joey Bada$$ Denzel Curry I’m gonna start with logic first I started with logic because he fits all the characteristics of a rapper who can hold their own against Kendrick he’s openly admitted to wanting to collab with Kendrick for the longest. Now because he loves his fans so much his music has watered down with every release since Bobby Tarantino because he’s run out of content to deliver to his fans up until no pressure when it was influenced by what everyone else desires. On top of that he has been deemed corny for some of the directions he took within his few creative processes. Now Big K.R.I.T I’ve heard kRIT on songs with Kendrick and Kendrick has never bested him K.R.I.T is undeniably one of the most underrated artist in hip hop history. If K.R.I.T had more mainstream appeal he’d be up there with the likes of Cole Drake & Kendrick. Travis Scott On a creative level Travis is the equivalent to someone such as a Kanye a Cudi or a Andre 3000. Travis often use to melodic flows and harmonizing techniques in his music and how consistent he is has put him well into the conversations that involve the three headed monster (Cole Drake Kendrick) but his name is rarely brought up in terms of lyricism (for obvious reasons) or his impact or effect on the culture of hip hop. A lot of Travis artwork is a psychedelic journey through his creative process and how innovative his creativity really is and I feel as if it’s often slept on within the rounds of the culture which is why he isn’t brought up as much as the big 3. A$AP Rocky A$AP is often arguably an underrated lyricist and rapper in terms of his placement amongst the new school criteria but we all know why this answer is short lived and obvious. It’s simply because he doesn’t drop as much. If Rocky were more consistent he would definitely be more considered into being placed in that conversation. Dave East Dave East is the most upsetting one in my opinion because as a New York bread lyricist and signed to one of the Legends (Nas) on top of his overall consistency to drop almost every year and never have watered down content I don’t really understand the reason why he’s underrated in terms of lyrical ability and delivery. Drake and J. Cole have both openly co signed Dave and have unreleased work with him. Dave held his own on tracks with Nas Jadakiss Styles P and many other notable legends. The only realistic reason I can identify within his criteria setback is his production selection and def jams lack of publishing. Hopefully this changes in time for people to finally consider him worthy enough of him being placed in the 5 headed monster conversation that is only limited to 3 right now. Joey Bada$$ Joey Bada$$ has never dropped anything whack and has never disappointed on any of his bodies of work. It’s simply his consistency. Besides that Joey is up there with Travis & K.R.I.T as a very noticeable contender even appearing on songs that feature both Cole & Kendrick. (1Train by A$AP Rocky & Legendary (feat. J. Cole) in my opinion Joey did better than Cole on that track) Now last but not least Denzel Curry Denzel is the most unorthodox when it comes to overall creativity aspect within his style of music. Everything from Denzels Cadence to his Production Selection is drastically different from any other lyricist I’ve heard in the new school maybe besides Danny Brown and Earl Sweatshirt. I feel like Denzel is a perfect candidate because of his creativity differences. I feel like you being able to posses a lyrical aspect on top of the craziest production choices makes you worthy to be in that conversation Again this is my opinion. If you suggest otherwise please inform me and address your personal bias to I can have a different perception!

The way I always looked at it is like this (rap records only): usain bolt ran 100m in 9.6 seconds, as he gets older let's say he uses drugs and runs 100m in 9.7 seconds... so he cheated once but he still has the record at 9.6 when he wasn't cheating. So to compare it to drake, drake used a ghostwriter for a few of his songs on iyrtitl, even tho they weren't the best rap records they were still good. Drake has songs like am-pm series, two birds, do not disturb, back to back where he proves he can rap. So I don't understand why he gets discredited if his best work was done by him?

DwntW0rry it's because it's a taint in his career. Writing your own shit in Hip-hop is really important and we dont know if He did or didn't used them for this song or another one. I get your comment tho
@DwntW0rry
@DwntW0rry 7 жыл бұрын
i guess a taint in his career is the appropriate level of "punishment" but he's been totally dismissed as a rapper now, why is that? It was proven he had a writer for some tracks on his mixtape, and now it's assumed every track has a ghostwriter behind it... Are people being safe and assuming so, or are they trying to eliminate drake as a great for the sake of their favourite artist or what's going? It's like framing someone who has had a history of crimes, it's unfair to assume they did the crime they were framed for just cause they have a history. what happened to innocent till' proven guilty?

it doesn't matter, I can name you a literal thousand songs who had 5+ ghostwriters and are still shit. to have a writing skill makes you much more powerful as an artist in the long run (in my opinion, in a lot of people's opinions tbh) He legit came up with the whole Hook. He also is just not the same as anyone else. Like I don't know anyone he compares with, unless you're gonna be racist as fuck - which.... you might be?

Disclaimer: Drake's my favorite artist, I'm a big fan of Kendrick, Kendrick Lamar is a better rapper than Drake But yall are all small minded af. Drake's not even trying to be the "best rapper" alive. He's trying to be one of the best ARTISTS, by using his roots in hip-hop. Kendrick is trying to be the rapper, which is great but small minded compared to what Drake is trying to do and what he's accomplished. Drake has had a single on the billboard top 100 for the past 8 YEARS. Kendrick will never get to that level of success because of the lane he chose and wants to be in. Yall comparisons and "Kendrick vs. Drake" shit is stupid

Guy On The Moon success doesn’t mean that your music is good or that your the best. Tupac and biggie never won a Grammy and yet they are still called the Goats. Kendrick is a far better artist and rapper than Drake and it’s not even close even though he hasn’t had Drakes success. “How much a dollar cost” is better than Drakes whole career.
