ESU LokSound 5 first look. New sound decoder from ESU LokSound features expanded functionality and improved features. As this decoder is not available at retail yet, I did most of my testing using the factory equipped LokSound 5 - 21pin MTC decoder on my Scaletrains BNSF C44-9W

Excellent review. You scooped everyone! Haha. The most important aspect of this new decoder is the lack of humming. This was extremely irritating and occurred even with higher end motors. Zimos didn't do this. Now ESU will be a good choice for steam as well. The future is bright...

It will be in the new Rapido "Icons of Steam" series and there were a few of the last RDC models with the V5.

I just looked at the options on lokprogrammer for a 5 project and I have the 3 point speed value option available. Looks like they added it back in thankfully

This is an EXCELLENT review and demonstration of the LokSound 5 decoder. Thank you for presenting. I have just purchased the HO Rapido Alco FA-2 loco with the LokSound 5 decoder installed. How can I make this decoder manual notch? I see no provision for this in the owner's manual. I do not care for LokSound's Drive Hold feature. Can this decoder be made to manually notch? I sure hope so.

Excellent information. Thank you for taking the time to explain the decoder features. Much appreciated, and no, the information was NOT boring as I have two of these locos in N scale. At 6:00 in the video you began playing horn samples, but I could not help but notice the device the Dash-9 was sitting on. What were those rollers the wheels were sitting on? I've never seen anything like that. Is that your own invention or something that is available commercially? I could instantly see where that would be totally useful or wheel cleaning, programming, maintenance. Please advise. Thank you.
