I mean...I remember renting Darkwatch on Playstation 2 in 2005 at Blockbusters, it was a dark western game with a vampire cowboy lead and an full on sex scene in the rain with a hot vampire chick if you took the evil route in the playthrough instead of a redeeming one. It was BLATANTLY obvious what was happening in that cutscene that even a child could have figured it out if they saw it.

I mean yeah fantasy is fantasy but that mostly relates to the gameplay, these costumes are more a matter of taste and acceptance that media is designed for people with various tastes, I know body positive men, women and people that identify in other ways that love provocative outfits like these and dress up in such a manner for cosplay, parties or other events. And such individuals dress in such a manner for a variety of reasons often self empowering others find enjoyment in self degrading as well as a wide array of other ways people indulge in their tastes, and censorship not only harms those that enjoy this media as part of escapism but also those that are inspired to bring the aspects they love to life in a safe and constructive manner because it puts a stigma on people just liking what they like, same issue as people shaming others because of how they dress.

@alexandervanderwal4070 Yeah, that is a valid point. But it doesn't always happen like that. I mean, I remember when I turned about 7, my parents gave me Turok 2 Seeds of Evil for the N64. And yet, they didn't complain about the game being too violent. They were shocked, yes, but they didn't file any complaints about the game. If only other parents followed how my parents learned about M-Rated games.

I still have my PS3 physical copy. This game is a lotta fun. Tbh i didn't notice major improvements here but i'm glad they're keeping the original mode. The PS3 platinum is not very difficult, except for the elevator trophy. Just remembering it makes me relive a nightmare lol Don't buy this game on PS just yet. Remember what Sony did with Stellar Blade. Wait for a sale. And keep an eye on updates just to make sure they didn't censor anything with time.

But this seems to be across all platforms, and if Sony tries to force censorship across all platforms (for "consistency", as they've done before) then PC will almost immediately mod in the uncensored versions. Stellar blade didn't have this benefit as a PS exclusive

Addendum: Sony probably cost ShiftUp a couple million dollars with their new underhanded scheme - Let the devs announce that their game will be completely uncensored, let the fans rejoice, then force the devs to censor their game, watch the devs bleed money as their fans turn against them, Sony gets to maintain their far left ideology and the usual suspects and social media grifters get to claim another victory for the far left commies. Unlike Stellar Blade, RePop is multiplatform, so even if Sony does force them to censor the Playstation version, the other versions should be fine.

Day / Week 1 patch to censor them on Playstation. Let's not forget that ShiftUp also promised uncensored but Sony forced a day 1 patch that censored things. Never again day 1 / launch purchases of Sony games. Not even Week 1. And definitely no Digital. On a side note, I guess the Goth Girl one wasn't included due to the copyright stuff? That's a damn shame. I always regretted not being able to get that costume in the original.

Since there's no physical release, 1 update from Sony is enough to censore the outfits. Stellar Blade is a prime example. So if ya going for this, be careful.

I've seen many people in the comments wondering which costumes would be removed, or if a costume from a specific anime will be in or not. Well, the answer is in the video, guys... The producer said there was 30 costumes in the game. If you pause the video at 1:08, there is exactly 30 costumes on the screen. So, this image shows us the entire list of costumes that are in the game, simple as that. So that we can know right away which ones are in, and which ones aren't. Any costume not on this image, is not in the game. I appreciate that they showed us the full list like this, as we know exactly what to expect that way. They being as transparent as they can be with us, which I find very cool. So yes, the 2 School Of The Dead, Shiro, Chifusa Manyu, Haruna, Jimmy Urine, Rockabilly, Foxy Funk, the Goth exclusive, and Ash Williams, have all been removed for copyrights reasons. At least we know about it before it releases, so that's cool. They ain't trying to hide things from us, unlike many studios would have done.

They've already confirmed there're 3 versions you can play repop which is censored and the original version which isn't censored and a streamer mode which turns off all copyrighted music

With stelar blade the devs foolishly only released for one platform, Sony PlayStation. Also foolishly they tried to slip in the uncensored content under the radar of Sony's. Well guess what, Sony censors played the game and found that content, and then gave the developmers an ultimatum. Either release a censorship patch, or the game gets removed from the platform. This was NOT about the developers lying. I hate it when people without proof call others liars. The developer wanted the uncensored content and even tried to slip it under the radar. But they got caught, and were forced to patch it, or face the company-destroying prospect of being unable to sell a game that they had just spent millions of dollars developing.

@@Videogamer-555 Doesn't matter how you cut it, it's the developers' fault. Sony has been like that for at least two decades now (for example the PS2 port of Utawarerumono from 2006), so it was obvious they'd interfere and the developer still promised the sky.

If we learned anything from Stellar Blade is that we won't know until the release day. So I'll have to take the wait and see approach this time. Stellar Blade was a high profile game and the outcry did get us extra constumes that essencially fixed (and in ome case improved) the originals that were censored. I don't thini this game is getting the same support, especially because it's multiplat, so the PC and Switxh version are definitely uncensored.

While costume censorship is worrying, the thing that worries me the most is music licenses. I think the OG's music was perfect for it, so if there are many omissions, it would be pretty disappointing, to say the least.

there were about 7 copyrighted outfits (from what I found) , but at least their adding more to make up for that. 5 from anime and 1 based on Ash from Evil Dead and 1 based on Little Jimmy Urine (frontman for Mindless Self Indulgence)

Aw man... that's awesome! Just finding out about this remaster/remake. Was always a bit interested in that game, but didn't have a console at the time... and when I do buy consoles, its pretty much just Nintendo. So hopefully the Switch version doesn't suck, which it probably will... (maybe I'll wait for a Switch 2 version...)

I never got into the game the first go around, unfortunately, which costumes won't be featured? I remember a Jimmy Urine inspired costume was an exclusive Gift with Purchase (Jimmy was lead sound director for the game, as well as the front man for MSI)

you know I honestly don't mind there being an option for a censored version as long as the uncensored version is as easy to get ahold of. Or even if it's some option in game that is tied to tied to the safety system in the systems.

I think I was a little shocked at some of the content but in that "they couldn't get away with this now " kinda way . But loved how outrageous it was. A major advantage on this version is it will load much faster . The original version took a short time to load and there were loads of loading screens .

Shiro from Deadman Wonderland Saeko and Rei from Highschool of the Dead Chifusa from Manyuu Hikenchou Haruna from Is This a Zombie? I loved this game on PS3 but it didn't run so well, so I'm definitely going to pick this up on Series X and probably later on Steam when its discounted. Very glad to hear it isn't being censored as in today's world that's a very brave and inspiring move
