There is a novel called "London" - by Edward Rutherford, if you liked this doco, you'll love this novel. Covers the 2000 years of London's history, it follows several people and their descendants through centuries, until modern times. One of the best historical fiction novels ever.

Once again, *No One* does docs better than the Brits! With a couple of my favourite familiar historians! Dan and Susannah~ (Lucy still rules the roost, though :) )

Absolutely true. I love documents, especially the ones done by the Brits. My personal favourite documents are actually about the UK, since I have a deep fascination for it. I found Lucy Worsley a little while ago, and she's my absolute favourite! Nobody manages to captivate the audience quite like her :)

If there's one thing I can't bear with this modern documentary style it's the constant vocal emphasis and the over-use of the word 'amazing" - "Look kids, it's some amazing nits of wood under some amazing mud, which is just amazing!" Incredible...

They get caught up on the excitement of their Passion of the information they are putting across. Funny I hated the monotone news readers of the past who seem to not give a rats about they were speaking.

@@edwardoleyba3075 Bruh its called colonisation. England was one of the main nations that did this, they literally travelled around the world imposing western views in the name of some queen that these people didn't know or care about because everyone else wasn't "civilised". They proceeded to crush and destroy cultures and then went back to their home stealing everything from tea and spices to jewellery and fashion, then implemented this into their own culture claiming it as their own. So don't tell me it was a one way street, my whole family history is literally slavery, being lied to and taken away from our home land plus family and robbed of our culture because of this. I'm not saying that only England is to blame, as this happened with many nations and it is no ones fault now as this was a result of people in the past, but the fact remains that Britain as a nation is built off colonisation and would nothing it is today without it.

London was built by Romans of many ethnicities not only Black Africans! and they didn't have the same concept of racism and discrimination linked to skin tone that we have now. The Africans living in the European side of the Roman Empire were mostly North Africans (Mediterranean and Middle Eastern people) and less so were from Subsaharian Africa (Black Africans) and they enjoyed different roles in society. Social mobility was less tied to skin color as slaves in the Roman Empire were of all colors and origins.
