Problem is the tourists see troopers and CoH patting the horse on the head and tickling its nose so they think they can/should do the same thing. We are just the armchair critics who think we know it all and have the right to criticize everyone who doesn't do what we think they should. Doesn't that make us as disrespectful as we think they are? Think about it.

John, in answer to your question about a horse's mouth strengthen - The jaw strength (masseter muscle) of a horse is about 500 psi (pounds per square inch) Humans are usually less than 200 psi, while a Pit Bull measures 235 psi (#3 dog breed in jaw strength) Because of the great deal of force exerted by an equine in closing its jaws, the severity of injuries may range from mild superficial pressure trauma, cutaneous breaks of the skin, deep lacerations with loss of tissue, and injuries to blood vessels and nerves, to amputations of digits and fractures. If you are bitten and it breaks the skin, clean the site thoroughly with soap and water, before covering with a sterile dressing. If the bite is over a joint, hand, foot, or a prosthetic device, a doctor should be considered immediately because antibiotics are most likely indicated to ward off an infection. You did the right thing in getting her to be checked out by the MOD police! If a horse is pinning his ears at you because you haven't earned his respect and trust. The gentle, yet determined nudge, or shove, of a horse's nose can mean a greeting, denote a desire, or convey an intent. We can attribute human phrases like “Hey, who are you”, “Do you have something for me”, “What's this?” or even the more cheeky “Move along” to the nudging of a horse's nose. hope this information helps a bit - The horse guards are NOT an amusement park or petting zoo - I really thought a child would get hurt this past weekend with the rate of 'child danger' incidents filmed by you and a couple other youtubers - maybe the MOD should take a more active role in advising tourists of certain potential dangers or the guard being able to warn tourists/parents to stay back, not crowd his/her horse when it's not in the best of moods -

A horse is capable of biting off a finger, nose, ear, tearing out hair and scalp, snapping a neck, or that lady was pinched and could have had a chunk of meat removed. Horses cant see directly under their head, or behind butt. Adults and especially children should never stand either place. Horses spook easy, and they can move fast, resulting in injury or death to a person in the wrong place. Bored, or spoiled horses can also be giant toddlers. I use to use a spritz of palmed breath spray to teach horses not to bite. Not toxic, not cruel, they didnt associate the minty fresh breath from a human as I didnt say a word. It always took one or 2 times only to learn. I even taught the Police departments mounted horse trainer that trick. Many people make a game of it while thinking they're training against it. All that slapping at the horse does is make a horse head shy or snappy back. And yes, they can snap bones. Just because they eat vegetables, doesnt mean that cant kill meat. Girl was lucky.

I don’t agree with the previous comments about the horse being wound up. Before the biting incident, the horse consistently turned his head and was pretty mouthy with anyone close by, probably to get some attention and pets. Notice he never moved his feet which would have resulted in a correction from the Trooper, who, in my opinion, should have not allowed his mount to display such poor manners. The horse shouldn’t be allowed to fraternize with the visitors, just as the Trooper is not allowed to. In any case, when the young woman stopped giving the horse attention, he nipped her. The Trooper seemed to know what was happening, but he didn’t correct the horse right away. Probably tired of tourists all around and allowed things to play out as they may.

If she "knows horses", she completely ignored what she knew about horses, or she is less educated than she thinks. Glad you left the incident in, fair warning to all. Horses can exert 500 pounds of pressure on a bite, enough to take off a finger from a person. Could produce a crush injury to the bone. This horse only got skin and soft tissue, so she was lucky.

Delighted they are keeping away from Wombat and Lincoln, this is perfect for the horses and the guards. Love it! I have no sorrow for people who get bitten at all, they should take notice of the sign and act like grown ups, it's not as if she doesn't read or understand English is it? Not nibbling trying to fully bite his ears are back and he is fed up. Not bitten, nipped serves her right silly woman! Well done horse! Why be upset for her she did have the sign behind after all. Horse are entitled to their own personal space and they get anxious with too many people altogether. Poor Lincoln🥲

Lincoln had had enough, before the Canadian lady got bit. He was pushing people away beforehand with his nose. So many tourists around so much noise, so much going on. This is not a petting zoo, its a military barracks, and should be respected as a barracks. Problem is the tourists don't know this. More information about Horse Guards their horses, the barracks should be given out. John you did a good thing for her, she'll remember the bite and the fact she got help. Plus yours, Buska and others filming and pictures are helping educate people about Horse Guards. Thank you..

There are parents sometimes who keep trying to get their babies or toddlers to put their tiny, wiggling fingers up to a horses mouth, in attempts to get a photo of the little one stroking a horse’s nose. Such incidents could have results far worse than today’s. There should be no petting zoo behaviour allowed at all.

After viewing your numerous videos of tourists standing extremely close to these horses, let-alone stroking, scratching, and patting them; for the life of me, I do not understand why those not connected with The Guards are EVER allowed to do this!! I was raised with horses. Horses are capable of killing one with their teeth and both front and back hooves. Would it ruin the tourist experience to be kept several feet away from horse and mount at all times while still being allowed to take photos and videos? I think not!

A horse’s incisor teeth are designed for grinding up hay & grass so are necessarily sharpe. They are also used for nipping away unwanted and intrusive behaviour. If that horse had really meant business then she would have come off with a worse injury than just a bruise. Their jaw is powered by the massive massiter muscle which gives it a bite power of around 500 pounds per square inch - more then twice that of a pit bull. To be honest if that lady actually knew about horses other than simply riding them she’d have known not to stick her arm where the horse could grab it when it had “nibbled” everyone who had got close enough. She obviously didn’t gauge the mood of the horse before approaching it. As a Canadian she could have read and understood the warning sign - that she chose to ignore it is no one else’s fault. I suspect that’s one souvenir of her visit to London she’d rather not have collected. Having said that I think you were right to show the incident on your video. The more people who know what a horse is capable of then hopefully more people will respect their space. Especially parents who put their children in harm’s way just for that all important holiday snap.

No pity whatsoever for the lady with the bite. The people prior to her deserve a bite as well! I was even more surprised to hear she is a horse person. Any person who has spends time around an animal knows that you NEVER approach an animal that doesn't know you and put your hands around their mouths. I am always amazed when an English speaker gets bitten and then yells "He bit me!! That really hurts!!". If you went to the zoo and stuck your arm into a cage, would you expect the animal to bite you? IT'S NOT A PETTIING ZOO! I feel bad for the trooper because I bet it causes distress for him or her when it happens. At some point, it's going to be even worse. The parents that place a toddler directly under the horse's mouth is going to a bite on the head at some point. The tourist treat it like a tourist attraction. It's a historical/military site that attracts tourists. That is a huge difference. The only way to stop it is for someone to police the tourists behavior. They are obviously not smart enough to stop putting their hands in the mouth of a horse. There are 3 choices, build barriers keeping horses away from the people, police the behavior, or pull the horses back into the yard and keep the yard closed. And while I am at it, this is no place for dogs!! Not good for the dogs, the public or the horses!!

I re-watched that portion of the video and there are 2 men behind her laughing, you can also hear others laughing as if egging her on until it turned serious - afterwards think some tourists realized it could happen to them - I've always said there should be NO touching of the horses - and a distance away of at least 2-3 feet for photo purposes - the MOD police should be more involved in 'public safety' (and protection of the horse guards) - I've heard tour guides (all tour guides speak more than one language per their websites) urging their paying tourists to 'move closer' - an announcement to every tour guide company in england that failure to educate their tours how to behave and show respect would result in a serious fine - or maybe we subscribers should start a letter campaign 🙂
