Acting as a "lone wolf," a member of Canadian pop opera group The Tenors inserted the controversial slogan "All Lives Matter" into the Canadian national anthem during a performance at the MLB All-Star game. On this week's Pop Culture Panel, we discuss why the phrase is so prone to backlash.

All lives matter is knock on Black lives matter? I'm not convinced it is. I'd like to think that saying all lives matter includes Black, Mexican, Asian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Canadians, and even American white folks like myself. I stand for the rights of all of these people and will always and forever support a one love policy. My problem is that they then break down a simple message to say that it was trivializing one movement when the true intention was to unite. One love.

@@MrTdwilliams when you watch the vid of the incident. you hear people cheering, and a kid in the background behind Remi was clapping. The 3 Tinheads used this against Remi to fullfill their personal agenda's against him. Of course people jumped at the chance to take advantage of the situation for their own cause.

All the talent in the Tenors left with Remigio Pereira.

ROFL, really? Remi's career has crashed and burned. His talent can't compensate for the damage he does to his reputation with his promoting ridiculous and dangerous conspiracy theories. He only appeals to a fringe group where the Tenors (as Victor Clifton and Fraser) performed to sold out crowds in theatres all over North America and Europe for years. You don't do that without talent. And now they have Mark Masri and Alberto Urso.

@@sammg2885 What a ridiculous answer but typical of Remi's flock. I've been in the sold-out theatres watching Victor, Clifton and Fraser. Remi hasn't sold-out an entire theatre (and I mean theatre, not auditorium or conference room) since he was booted out in 2016.

@@sammg2885 That's right, and the point is that the talent did NOT leave with Remigio. The guys would not be selling out theatres if they didn't have a great deal of talent. Your statement is stupid Sam Gore.

The loan wolf tennor isn’t a follower like the 4 on this panel laughing and sneering at him , if the loan wolf tennor had done immoral dancing on the field, or used filthy language in the mic, or burned the flag, he would have been more excepted. Nobody would have said A WORD. 👍🏼

Although it may have been that he thought his progressive intentions would be well received (. . .maybe a subtle call for fourth 'O Canada' lyrical change), a national anthem lyrical alteration is symbolically political. Canada is generally not viewed as a brash social/political nation, and certainly didn't wish for any negative ramifications via States-side salt&pepper matters to spill into the mapled regions. In the CBC interview, it wasn't easy to watch the 2 of the members to throw him under the bus, however, if they genuinely weren't aware of his musical demonstration, then matters of communication & philosophy were indeed existing beforehand and it was his sole decision. Regarding the, 'black lives matter,' versus,'all lives matter,' phrases - there is only an 'issue' depending on the angle. Anything can preceed '_ lives matter' (animals; vegans; mothers; plants; Earth) - and 'all lives matter' is encompassing of all life. However, the black lives matter phrase is angling off of more historical overtones - select Africans/families arriving by force onto the shores of the New World, owned/traded/working as a commodity, and being viewed as more of a production unit of flesh, rather than a human (more than 50% of the time). Decades and centuries later, with unshackled, intelligent and economically free black men, a lot still felt/feel the need to prove that they are human beings and always were, hence the 'black lives matter' phrase. In addition, there are a number of individuals/communities who are still enslaved - the black on black murders are symbolic of self-hate & lack of value towards that historically devalued individual (in reference to locales that mimic the Chicago narrative). Over time several injected initial start-up solutions geared towards them could possibly work to deduce the negativity and provide flashes of optimistic light.

It's a shout out to white domination that already exists, because if you silence people trying to shed light on inequality, then you are trying to maintain the status quo. It's a knock against black lives matter because the term really means "black lives matter too".
