I completely forgot to share the sealing of the tile floor and the walls! You actually use the same exact product for both (just a good quality stone sealer) and roll it on with a roller. It adds an additional waterproof barrier and literally repels the water!

Wait wait WAIT YOU CAN PLASTER OVER TILE?! I need to reno my bathroom so bad but there are no windows so I was scared about ripping off tiles and needing to then fix all the walls due to drying time etc (it is the only bathroom so I'd need to move out while there was no toilet...). This would save so much time and money. Does it last or will it need redoing in a few months?

FYI for any future toilet removal. You turn the water off to the toilet. You then flush the toilet to remove the water in the toilet. Then with an old towel you remove the little bit of water left in the tank. Then you just lift the toilet and remove it from the room.

Your skill set has improved so much. You will soon be a master craftsman at tile work. I want you to attack the outdoor fountain tile work this summer. I am so proud of you and that Architectural Digest has recognized your creativity and talent. The bathroom looks wonderful. So many of us have ugly or original tile work. My original tile is from 1937. This technique is a game changer for a lot of us. Tearing out that tile is not an option because the tile is attached with mesh, rebar and cement to an exterior brick wall. It also encompasses the entire fenestra steel window frames. Thank you for providing me with a viable and doable option for renovation.

Yeah and I don’t know if he didn’t know this or just didn’t show it, but if you flush the toilet a couple of times after you turn off the water it drains out most of the water. Thought it was worth mentioning for those who weren’t aware and thought you had to bail out ALL of the water.

You and Justin are really getting quite good at tiling. When you are able to see things level and plumb, it is amazing what you can do with tile. Love the way you include the transitions to wall and around the edges. Many people who tile, just do not do this and I think it is because they are just doing the minimum required with the base tile and not thinking about the beauty added when incorporating cut pieces and trim pieces to their design. You two really are working well together doing these installs. The only thing that surprised me is that you did not do the plumbing yourselves. I still remember the first time I installed a toilet and it worked; it was just so empowering. You really should try it. Really loved the use of this cement treatment. Sure. Some would just retile every time, but doing the different bathrooms differently really ups the design elements of the entire home. And I see this house is truly turning into your home! You should all be so proud! 👏

I think the cement look is great and fits your house well. I just think you missed an opportunity with sealing the door up. You definitely could have made that into a built-in storage unit for more storage since you were half way there when you removed the door! Otherwise it looks great!

It would have only been a few inches deep, unless the cabinet intruded out into the other room or hallway. Plus, it would be awkward having a door opening up into the bathroom. That being said, we never got to see that part of the finished room.

Yes, it’s almost (but not quite) a Zorn palette which does not use blue. I’m sure Drew will get out of his comfort zone. Our tastes change as we mature. I don’t know how old you are but I remember the 1970s when everyone had similar paint colours on their walls. I think it has given me an aversion to browns and magnolias 😂 It’s an age thing. I suppose being an interior designer, means you would have to use whatever is in fashion and is readily available to buy from the large diy stores, and whatever the buyers are trying to punt to the consumer.

Lovely makeover but it would have made more sense to extend the bathroom into the laundry room so that there is access to the whole house and not just through the guest room. Now when Marie wants to use the bathroom when you have guests staying in that room she is invading their privacy to use the bathroom.
@selinabella8606

Late to the party but I enjoy that you keep to the same tones per room but still make them look individual and separated if that makes sense, with their own unique touch. I’ve seen a home that every room looks identical and the only way of knowing the purpose is the obvious ie, bed, cooker, sofa etc and it’s just not great. Awesome stuff Drew xx
