A Long Island husband, and soon-to-be first time father, turned to social media looking for work plowing driveways or shoveling sidewalks. He promised an honest day's work and the response was overwhelming. CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reports.

@Mary kai How is he trying to kill old people? I agree that grandma should have worn a mask but they were all distanced from others during the interview. I support wearing masks but it's not mandated or even recommended while doing physical activity like shoveling snow.

God bless this man and his family. I remember when I was a kid snow days were a day off school and a chance to make money shoveling snow. It was that and my newspaper route that gave me some spending money. As I grew into an adult I noticed that those jobs were taken over by adult immigrant workers. Those first gigs for kids are all but a thing of the past.
@ED-ie3et
@ED-ie3et 3 жыл бұрын
Um...you don't have to put down immigrants though. There are still companies and programs all over the state that look to hire young people and if not for 18-24 year olds there is Year Up, Grace Institute, NEW and other programs that help teens and young adults find a career.
@reasontolerance2484
@reasontolerance2484 3 жыл бұрын
@@ED-ie3et yes, I had to say adult immigrants because that is the demographic that usurped those jobs from kids (preteens) that are not allow to work in jobs due to labor laws. These paid chores (snow shoveling, mowing the lawn, gardening, delivering newspapers) were traditionally reserved for kids to serve as a building block in a child’s development. It taught them the value of an honest day’s work. That learning experience has been taken away from them.

Bless his heart ♥️ too many “men” these days feel they’re “too good” for this kind of work. So seeing him & his friends do this to survive in today’s world makes my heart happy. For those making smart ass comments saying “you did the same thing but didn’t get a reward” or “people have done it for years blah blah” yeah that might be the case but this husband & father to be lost his job due to a virus that none of us have experienced before & instead of going on unemployment, turning to crime, or just laying around expecting other ppl to support him he got up & did something. He works everyday for money to support his wife & to prepare for the arrival of his daughter. Shame on y’all for putting him down/making snide comments bc he is trying to make an honest living to support his family. Kudos to you & your friends who have been helping with it. Also, a huge congratulations to you & your beautiful wife on the baby girl! She is going to be so proud of her daddy ♥️

Many kids in NY LIKE MYSELF, did this too! (in the 60's and early 70's) SO congrats to this guy! Just Shows if you hustle and want to earn an honest days pay anyone can do it! ONLY difference was, we as kids used shovels and all manual labor! but good for this guy! Today, KIDS are too fukin lazy and play games, videos, etc expecting everything handed to them, LMFAO. You can make a good buck if you put your mind to it. I averaged about $60 (Around 1969, 9 years old) per week AND working only about 5 hours per week, more if it especially snowed a lot continuously! AND it did in Upstate NY! And this is when I was 9-10 years old! Great times! I loved Blizzards and heavy snow back then. (no school but worked!)
