It was a great adventure, I threw a stick and then ate the fruit it knocked out of a tree. We also sampled some great bakery treats and found the old railway station, and a lot of bridges, including one made out of an old train carriage. We stopped at two temples and a spiritual park. To top it off we walk the back streets, or Railway Road and I tell a very funny story.
Long Mountain in Mauritius, in the Pamplemousses district, is a must-visit not only for the great bakeries and fun fruit collecting but for the really nice people and all the history.
This is the link to the page (Flickr) where we found the Train Bridge. He has other great albums as well check them out, Historic Mauritius:

We are saving up to get a drone, so we can show you more from the places we visit. Help the cause by buying a coffee. You can also get Riki's art of the day here:

Happy to see my village, thanks for visiting and sharing to the world. You were at the right place for the rail way, the rail was there for many years and the hospital is the railway station. I will not be surprised if you find the rail at the back of the hospital. The college is the one I went. It is colonial building turned into a shop and then a school. Long Mountain used to be a colonial village. Many French families used to live there. There are still some French graves and some colonial houses too. I have also seen a few graves of the slaves, yes, unfortunately, there were slaves there too. The people at Long Mountain respect the graves, I hv no doubt that some are still there. I also remember three French ladies, one of them died not long ago and her house/land are still there. There was also a French clinic belonging to late doctor Andre. At his death in the 60’ no one came to claim his land and the government built a community centre. Some of the colonial rocks can still be seen. Last but not the least, the legend said that the pirate Olivier Levasseur (aka La Buse), might have buried some of his treasures at Long Mountain. At his death he threw a cryptogram to the crowd’s. You can find the cryptogram on line and if you can read it, you might find the treasure. Who knows!

I wish we had seen some of those thing. As for La Buse, I am busy looking into quite a few of his stories, thanks for the Long Mountain tip, I will look into it. Thanks for the great and informative comment.

That's the village where I was born and bred can't recognise the place change so much. Had some unpleasant memories at the hospital lots of injections 🥺 "donne ou les bras". We use to buy pastries and cake from a little shop not to far from the hospital we use to call it "gâteaux bonne femme" lol. Much love and blessings to you all ❤️

When it is ripe it is wonderful and when you eat the pulp you chew on the stone and it cleans your teeth. We had a tree with hundreds of fruits which went to waste in our garden.

Hi Bryan and Riki Being a Mauritian I always check your videos and you are very lucky to visit these places. I was Born in Creve Coeur (3 kms from Long Mountain and I highly recommend you to visit the place.) I now live in Canada and visit back home from time. In 2-3 years I will retire back home at Long Mountain and my house is very near the Hospital you visited. Hopefully I can meet you there some day soon.

Nice vlog. Great to see how you made the island your place to be and mix around. So different from a group of people in Mauritius who do not consider themselves Mauritians even generations later. They call themselves Franco Mauritian because they descend from french slave traders, settlers and colonialists. They live apart, cut themselves off mainstream society, obviously prejudiced towards others, have accumulated immense wealth ( how?) Some of them are billionaires and many lives and operate from outside Mauritius. They live in gated fenced off properties and have powerful financial and business influence. Like the Mafia I guess.
@BryanDiscoversWorld

Thanks for the comment, we love exploring. We did experience a little of this prejudice when we visited a national monument near a fenced community in Piton.
