United States Army Sniper School Rifle Marksmanship: "When you squeeze the trigger, it means that you must continue aiming, continue focusing on your breathing and hold control until after the shot is fired. This marksmanship fundamental called “follow through” is critical to improving your consistency as a shooter." You let off the trigger immediately after each shot. Your accuracy seems pretty good, but I bet you make those few slight misses into hits if you work on your follow through.
@charlesludwig9173
@charlesludwig9173 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the idea is to maintain aim until tecoil subsides. A shooter must command the brain to do this, since otherwise upon trigger break the brain will sense that the job is done. Thing is the job is not done because the bullet as fast as it is still is not as fast as the brain and thus the bullet may not have cleared the bore. So, maintaining aim, also called follow through assures the bullet clears the bore before the brain abandons aim. The bonus is follow through allows the shooter to call the shot, that’s to say the shooter will know the reticle to target relationship as bullet cleared the bore and thus the shooter should know exact location of bullet strike, which is an aid to shooter/target analysis. For example if shooter calls shot at 9 o’clock and strike is indeed at 9 o’clock then the shooter knows the rifle is zeroed but perhaps trigger control was not smooth. Fun stuff. BTW, as the shooter is pulling the trigger the focus literally will be on the reticle with concentration on smooth trigger control and follow through, not ever on breathing. There is no need to think about breathing since the shooter not thinking about breathing will shoot during his natural respiratory pause. Creds: Military Rifle Instructor assisting USAMU deliver SDM Training, US Distinguished Rifleman, and NRA Long-Range High Master Classification Shooter.

I was issued the M16-A1 when I entered Military Service in’79 and had zero problems getting consistent hits on the 500m target with open sights. Not much left on the projectile at that range but that old Triangle Hand Guard A1 was a very accurate day Lightweight Rifle and of all the Poodleshooters remains my Favorite to this day.

Thanks Logan for taking the time and making videos with your new rifle. While I was in the Army I had the M4 but honestly with FMJ I really disliked it so much when I deployed. I was in the 160th SOAR so most of my activities were behind the M134. I later was able to acquire an M14 and I loved that rifle. With iron sights it just was solid and I had no issues with it. I started out in the Infantry back when the M16A1 was still being issued with the old M193 ball ammo. I honestly felt that it was no better than a varmint rifle and that is why I never really liked it. I might have liked it had we been allowed to take our own ammo with better bullets. Geneva convention fixed all of that for us though. I did get my UP 6mm ARC and it sure is a dandy! Well, I have been a bit windy on here. Just glad that you share your info and videos. They are really enjoyable to watch and listen to.

@Hardly livin well it already having 2000fps off the muzzle passing through a 20" barrel with a 1:12 twist rate, it tumbles the bullet in the air and it's like sling small blenders at your target. On top of that, they had a real bad habit of majorly changing trajectory after hitting their target causing the bullet to bounce around the enemy's body. The wounds were absolutely insane. I would still take the stopping power of M80: 150gr 7.62x51

I don't have a magnified optic on my AR-15 and make consistent torso shots at 515 yards. I felt bad, one day I went out to close my groups at that distance and this older gentleman had come out with his hunting rifle (I think a 30-06) with a Bushnell 8x or 10x. Hit everything but the target. I was using the irons on my AR and hitting my target at least 4/5 shots. He asked me how I was making shots like that without an optic. I told him that experience and practice are everything in the shooting world and that I would go multiple times a month all year round and that I had been doing that since I was 4. I had been shooting on the carbine length AR platform specifically for 17 years by this point using anywhere from 55 grain to 75 grain bullets so I knew the trajectories and ballistics like the back of my hand.

@@fireantfury2539 Some people commenting here have no experience shooting an AR at mid range (300-800 yards) thus when they try it or see another peer try it they think it’s a spectacular feat. The truth is it is not at all a difficult task for a shooter who has had some instruction on the matter from a credentialed trainer/coach. I’m a Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver the Squad Designated Marksman Course. That course covers everything important to good shooting because as distance to target increases so does the need for knowledge and skills not needed at shorter distances. One paramount need for mid to long range shooting is is an understanding for how to counter for prevailing wind. Thing is wind and weather countering instruction is not often presented outside of Military Marksmanship Programs, like SDM Training, so it’s no wonder why some people are amazed at the results others can get shooting at distant targets. At any rate, since you enjoy shooting the AR at distance you might want to attend this years Small Arms Firing School at Camp Perry. It’s US Setvice Rifle Marksmanship Training presented by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit. The 3 day event will give you the credentials to enter iron sight US Service Rifle Division Long-Range Competitions where you can both test and celebrate your Marksmanship.

@Charles Ludwig I would absolutely enjoy an experience like that but unfortunately I'm grounded by work and other responsibilities. I try to keep my marksmanship as sharp as possible with given time and money restraints. I was taught by my dad from the age of four who had no military or hunting experience and he started with no resources, virtually no experience, no money for training, and no friends with training to teach him. As he taught me (my mom was Air Force), after our PCS to San Angelo, Texas at Goodfellow AFB, we met an Army Reserve Sniper who was stationed there for their Arabic courses who taught us some more about shooting, especially at distance. I work on room to room clearing and movement drills both slow and fast paced more now than I do distance shooting because it's more applicable to why I have guns but I do have a few distance builds now. I've never done the calculations or know how to apply the numbers pulled from heat, humidity, distance, wind speed etc. When I was taught, I was taught to just feel and observe my surroundings and to understand how each factor affects the bullet and to figure out how to place my shot with just feeling and observing. I'm no sniper and will never claim to be, but I can use my firearms effectively at most ranges and will only get better knowing I have more to learn.

Perhaps, the reason you got higher velocity due to the bore of the silencer being tighter than the magnum TI. I don’t know if you took the readings for your DOPE with or without the magnum can on. With the tighter bore I and less volume I do believe the projectile would have a “stronger dwell pressure” if that’s possible and thus still be pushed harder resulting in a faster flight. Just a thought. Good shooting either way!

Hornady ELD-M 75 gr are pretty stable even out to those longer ranges. I realize the energy is dissipated at that distance, but I still wouldn't want to be hit by one at that range regardless.

I was shooting .22lr the other day and decided to see if I could hit 300+ yards with irons off hand. 100 and 200 yards weren't an issue but 300+ was difficult because I was using supersonic 40 grain bullets and they'd hit their trans-sonic stage right around or just after 200 yards. I was able to hit up 400 yards which was already a surprise to me. Any further and my rifle was going to turn into a mortar.

I am a Master Class Service Rifle Competitor and my average score at 200 yards standing is 96%. It took me a lot of practice time to get to that percentage. I would not practice with a .22 at that distance, since there are factors to success or failure beyond what the shooter can address from Marksmanship skill. In other words, shooter/target analysis is difficult and thus learning what needs correction is not possible. And, not knowing what correction is needed means no Marksmanship development. It’s just a novelty. So, take the .22 and shoot standing at 50 ft rimfire targets until you are able to put ‘em all in the 10-Ring. At that point you will have developed the knowledge and skills of what’s important to good shooting to shoot in any sort of competition with any platform.

I was at the range a couple weeks ago with my 6mm ARC I built (also has an Arken SH4) with the goal in mind for that trip to qualify to shoot on the 600 yard range (you have to hit a 6" target with 5 consecutive rounds at 300 yards to qualify). No problem, did it with the first 5 rounds. So I stopped shooting the target and was plinking at the steel rack waiting for the range to go cold to retrieve the target. After that I grabbed my Ruger 556 MPR with a "cheap" leupold 3x9 and shot the steel rack at 300. Shooting the Ruger was so much fun it almost made me giggle.😄

A testimony to your shooting sir. My dad was right about the amount of stamina required for distance, age being the numerator. At a certain age physical limitations begin to impose on human performance. Nothing imo, illustrates better the effects of aging both mind and body better than long range shooting. Granted as you age you get better equipment but its simply the laws of nature. I can't imagine I'll ever not enjoy this sport and especially the people who share this passion but it will come. Lasik or not 50x optic won't replace the hair trigger reflex and visual acuity needed for consistent LRS. In fact past a certain point I'd say it's downright unsafe.

I think I figured it out, I loaded these rounds in 5.56 LC brass instead of PMC 223 that I chronod that probably made the difference. Once you zero the rifle the can has no more low impact effect

Start out with a freshly painted target. Hits are more "dramatic" if they're clearly seen. Your DOPE seems off. I run 6.7 MIL at 700 with 69gr. OTM as example.

No big deal. Big deal is shooting to 1000 yards with match conditioned .iron sight 223 in US Service Rifle Division of NRA Long-Range Competition. It requires knowledge and skill that is not needed for results at less distance.

Not really impressed with the results of your or the rifles performance. The AR is much more capable then you are showing. Go to white oak armory and obtain a rifle that can actually shoot these distances accurately and consistently.

I just want people to know that the accuracy with a good AR at that distance is very good. I have shot many 1000yd matches with the iron sights on an AR and had very good success. I’m not giving you a hard time just the facts. I have lots of experience and success at long range shooting.
