SharpshootingUK answer the question most asked: which riflescope is best value for my money? This video explains the state of the dialling scopes market in Autumn 2017 from under £1000 to £money no object, and the reasons why, plus examines some recent changes that move things forward. Many expensive optics don't make the cut - these do.
Did this help you out & you'd like to return the favour? / sharpshootinguk

Good video. About resolution of mil markings in the reticle. I like the 0.1 mil ones in the MSR reticle on my S&B PM2. Makes it easy to mil targets of known size out to a very long range for ranging those accurate LR shots 👍

Great video, Richard; I enjoyed it ! I bought the Vortex 4.5-27x56 because of its reputation for ruggedness vs most anything else. If I buy anything else, it will only be an IOR.

HI Richard, Great review, very useful real information an overview on the current scope market which is tough to navigate for a newby in Aus. Going to check out a 4.5-30x50 titanium to put on my Tikka 223 this week, and will be putting a stryker on my next target rifle in 308. Question i had is what is that bipod shown on the rifle @1.52

Richard, thank you for the very timely report on latest scopes. I was ready to purchase another IOR (I have a Crusader and wanted a Recon) but after seeing your report I purchased a Delta Stryker 4.5-30. I think I might like it a litter better than IOR. The image is truly 3-dimensional and just about perfect on color. I also noticed that the illumination (I have the LRD-1T ret) is lit every 2 mil on the center windage line and on every .2 mil windage hash below center. Very, very nice. Everything is a bit stiff but extremely smooth. I would also prefer slightly more feel and sound in the turrets but otherwise I am happy to save some money and get something I consider as good as the best IOR's. Looking forward to some more in depth on this scope and company. Thank you!

excellent review as always. i know this is a little outside your usual scope, punn intended, but i would love to hear your opinion on the Primary Arms 1-8x by 24 mm sfp ACSS scope ($389 USD) and the 4-14x by 44 mm ffp ACSS HUD DMR or R-grid reticle scopes ($279 USD). i own both the 1-8x and the 4-14x R-grid and love them both and feel they compare favorably with many scopes costing 2-3 times as much. i know they cant really compete with the top flight alphas as you call them but i value your expertise and opinion and would love to have your take. any chance you can work them in?

Richard, fantastic review! Thank you. I can't afford the more expensive optics or rifles so I've been more on the "good enough" value end. I've decided I am going to step up a little, again trying to go with value and the Delta Stryker sounds like it fits that bill, however I can't find it anywhere in the U.S. I've been digging and I think I may have found another scope that would be a close cousin to the Delta Stryker in quality and value. Have you ever used or reviewed the Primary Arms Platinum 6-30x56 with the Deka Mil reticle? If the PA Platinum is right there with the Delta Stryker in value/performance then I should be happy with it when I finally save up the $, I'm hoping to find a trustworthy review by the time I get the coin.

Hi ritchard After your last recomendation on the meopta r2 I got one and over the moon with it and i love good all rounder. Now I am getting more and more into long range shooting (up to 800m to me is long range) I an considering a long range scope I don't have a huge budget and I am not a brand name guy. From what I see in this video the delta Stryker is a no question winner and I am thinking of getting one to get into the long range game. I don't change my equipment much I do research buy it and stick by it. Having never looked through these alpha scopes are they truly worth 2x 3x the money for what you get over the stryker. Thanks

Richard I recently picked up a S&B pm2 5-25 and I am having trouble getting the eye relief I want at 25x. It’s seems very... finicky it goes black very easy and it just seems to loose focus easy.. at 20x it is a lot better why am I having trouble at max power? I have tried moving my head around and can’t seem to get a crystal clear image that I would expect from a $2500 scope!! Am I doing something wrong or is something wrong with the scope? Also I have 20 moa base and 20 moa sphur rings totaling 40 minutes. Would that be the issue?

Well you do need to be comfortable on the stock. A lot of old-school hunting stocks really fight you when trying to use a high-mag scope. What you running? Also, make sure you adjust the ocular a lot (not just once)

Delta Stryker or Athlon Chronos? Kind of want MOA but it’s not a must since I’m not proficient in either yet. Only thing I don’t like about the Stryker is that you can’t lock the turrets. Hey Richard, thanks for introducing me to Delta Stryker. In the short future I will be looking at an upgrade for my Bushnell xrs for shooting extreme long range metal plinking. My current issue is, here in Australia the bushnell has issues dealing with haze on hot sunny days (90% of the time). It is only good to about 20x and I like to have more magnification when shooting a mile or more. I did have my heart set on a March scope but after your review I'm wondering if it is worth the extra money. Your thoughts?

Not a problem at all. If i had my way i'd get rid of all marking for yardage on scopes (perhaps keeping them below 75y for the air rifle parallaxers) as they just throw people off AND they vary with the use of the dioptre anyway

Hi Richard, great review. Since I do not have access to view the Delta Stryker 4.5-30 or IOR 4-28 before purchase, which would be your top pick? The Delta sounds like a solid choice, but the IOR has had a lot of recommendations since its release
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK

The IOR is a lot more money and slightly better, primarily for field of view.

I do have both in use and what Richard wirtes is correct. Recon a bit more contrast. But Stryker 56mm. For low light hunting clearly the Delta! I find the IOR not very strong in bad light conditions, even for a 50mm scope

The thing that annoys me with FFP scopes is the reticle is so small at its lowest setting when it starts at a 3 to 6. Been wanting to check a 9, 10 or 12 to compare the difference.

Yep that's quite right. But modern rets fight this problem fairly well

So assuming all things being equal the Delta seems the way to go for me. I have a question only ever used MOA. Can’t see an issue just need to get my dope again but is there any disadvantage to Mils?

Damn! You guys getting shafted in the UK with the Vortex. It's a $1500 scope across the pond. It's fun to see a different perspective on the value equation when considering the wildly differing costs around the world. No way am I going for a Vortex at the UK cost. Maybe a Steiner or Kahles... The problem with Euro glass here is that nobody carries them at a real discount. I refuse to own a tunneling PMII, and the 12-50 is basically a unicorn. The IOR's peculiar 40mm tube makes it hard to shop for rings and they're almost $4 grand. The Zeiss and Swarovskis here tend to be hunting-oriented. So... There is a bit of comfort going with a tried-and-true Razor HD gen 2 or Cronus (non BTR; which was less than $700 this past Black Friday) .
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK

That's really interesting thanks. I try to factor in the different market values but it's tricky and as you rightly say, a scope's relative value and worth are completely and utterly dependant on what it costs to buy!

Will the Stryker FFP ret work at 4.5x at close range (25m)??? Or is it too fine for hunting against a brush background??? My Bushnell XRS 4.5-30 was useless till the reticle thickened at about 10x. Making it very hard to use at short-range.
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK 6 жыл бұрын
Yes focus can come in very close - below 25m . Yes, XRS terrible for this close work
@rufturbo997

That's going to be pretty much the issue with FFP at low mag on a wide range mag scope. The LRD-1P should be a decent choice.

Is the glass quality on the Stryker as good as NF ATACR glass for your eyes?
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK 6 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. The ATACR is very much better than NXS series. From memory I'd say the Deltas might have better contrast but the ATACR is a good scope. I'd not buy one though over the Delta 4.5-30, primarily because of the better mag range and the fact that the Delta tracks completely perfectly so the main reason to buy NF is not there...although NF do a great job of offering so many ret/turret options which many manus could learn from

Thanks for the reply. That will make things easier!! Last Q- The side focus doesnt turn much after 300m marking. Wil there be any problems say if you try focus at 500m and say 900m? Thanks for all the info. Think these deltas are flying off the shelves because of this review!

Impressive toys. I thought there were huge restrictions in owning firearms in the UK? What are the requirements? Is this private land you are shooting on or public?
@thomaschilcott
@thomaschilcott 5 жыл бұрын
Just about every square inch of land in the UK is privately owned! We do have very strict firearms legislation, but a fit and proper person with good reason (and training where appropriate) and permission to shoot over land should have no real issues achieving a Firearms Certificate.

vincent leone - ive asked him to review those as well. i have the PA platinum 1-8x ACSS FFP scope and love it. i also have the standard SFP 1-8x ACSS and the 4-14x ACSS R-grid (discontinued) and love them as well. im awaiting release of the new 3-18x ACSS R-grid 2 scope. its suposed to be much improved over the 4-14x which is amazing for the money.

So I’m really looking hard at scopes. I’m not in to bells and whistles really. My main thing is turret track ability and clean glass that is good for long range, 1600 meters or so. Now I know there are lots of options, but I’m trying to keep the price around $1000 us. Can you give me your honest opinion on the sightron siii and let me know if you still think the overall quality is there.? I’ve also reached out to Delta, but they aren’t sold in the US yet. So I’m stuck with either Vortex gen 2, sightron or a lower power IOR. It I keep going back to the sightron.

I have and use a Sightron SIII 8-32 and for the money it is VERY good. Also have IOR 5.8-40 and just added Delta Stryker HD 4.5-30 and they are all better than my eyes or capabilities. Curious about how the Titanium series compares at roughly half the price.
