5 years ago, I went to my doctors office for a physical. Went back a week later for the bad news. I had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and had pre diabetes. The doctor put me on 4 different meds, and off I go. A co worker told me to try keto, which I did. In just about a year, I lost 80lbs. Now it’s time to go for my next physical. Cholesterol is normal. Blood pressure is normal. No diabetes. The doctor loves the results and told me we are going to keep the meds, as they are working well. I then explained to him that I never took the meds, and that I have changed my eating habits to keto. He got upset with me, and told me I’m going to kill myself on this diet. I got up and told him to F off, and got a new doctor. This lifestyle is not for everyone, but definitely give it a shot. The longer you’re in it, the easier it gets! Hope this helps.

I love your response to your doctor! As well-meaning as they may be, they will kill you...truly! I'm like you...I'll tell them in a minute that I'm not going to do this or that. We have to be our own guides because no one will care for us like we will. I've been doing the IF and lost 106 lbs so far....now I'm going to go for the keto and I am expecting good results. Keep that attitude...more people need it!

The doctors are so ideologically wedded and ignorant of the studies, science and the results for so many real people. So wrong. Now I don’t trust doctors or police or so many politicians. Not how I grew up. I have learned this from experience- so sad

@Michael Dierkes - Good for you! Your M.D. was upset because he "lost a customer"... There are appx 135 "billable" types of medical practice, where a medical doctor can earn income; however telling you to eat properly OR how to eat properly isn't one of them. He wants to TREAT YOU, not CURE YOU. ... There is a discrete difference between the two. I've lost 125 lbs (and keep it off easily); and I urge you to keep up the good work. Dr Berg is on target, as usual.............................. Thanks, Dr. Berg.

I've been on a Keto for 4 months now. I did get the Keto flu in the beginning. Felt bad for about 10 days. Then within a month, my cystic acne (a lifetime condition) cleared up completely. I lost 20 lbs, and wasn't even looking to lose weight. I heard it was good for your brain and I was starting to forget words. Not only do I have great recall again, but I focus for hours on my work, where I couldn't sit still before. One of the best things is I no longer have arthritis pain, and my knees don't "creak" when walking. I'm old...and now I have NO medical conditions and take no meds! It has been a life changer. I just worry if I'm losing too much weight. From a 10 to a 6! I have lots of energy, and can go 16 hrs without food. And work out for 2 1/2 hours straight! I'm a believer! Oh, and at my physical last month, my lab reports were perfect! Dr. said, "Whatever it is you are doing, keep it up! I don't have 35 year olds with these type of stats!" Loving life! My husband no longer has Acid Reflux, which he treated for years. Neither of us take meds or have any conditions! We are Seniors!

How many carbs do you typically eat per day? I am a healthy weight, but my husband is overweight. And I've been looking into doing a keto diet to help him lose weight, but I don't know if I can convince him to give up basically all carbs. I think I could convince him to drastically cut carbs, but I haven't found a whole lot of information about doing that instead of all-out keto.
@melvinrexwinkle1510
@melvinrexwinkle1510 5 жыл бұрын
@@soccerchamp0511 it's not very successful just going halfway keto . You have to stop completely eating grains and or grain products, it's the starch that is the real bad culprit. Try frying bacon in a skillet and and just add some fresh green beans( or whatever veggies you prefer, other than potatoes) turn the heat way down and cover the pan and let the veggies cook a little then eat all you want bacon grease too and see what happens. There is a lot of information about keto on KZfaq. Because it's working for everyone who stops consuming sugars and starches.

Skinny and healthy are not the same thing, amigo. Bacon is a class 1 carcinogen. Same classification as tobacco and asbestos, so there's that. Saturated fats are so strongly correlated with artery plaque and atherosclerosis that it's considered causal in most medical circles, so there's that too. Other than pants size, what are you basing your diagnosis of "healthy" on? Cause if you're living on bacon and butter, I'm gonna guess you'll have problems with colon-cancer and heart disease at the very least. If you haven't already, get some blood work done, and maybe keep a regular eye on it. Best wishes for your health, amigo.

I didn't much believe in it because a guy at work kept using it & cheating & falling out of it. We've had 4 diet contests at work & as a male I have an advantage I suppose. But I did the traditional low-calorie low-fat and tried to hover around 1,500 calories cuz I was a 6ft 2 male who weighed as much as 290 lb. By day 3, I wanted to eat my hand, but I got over it and was pretty rigid and compliance. I want all the tide contest because I was so strict and not eating leftover lunches of all the women who are Foodies. I started the keto when I got Omaha Steaks as a Christmas present & it was chocked with fat & I had the time having just retired, so I took a shot. I lost 50 pounds in 5 months. I don't feel hungry; I I'm not tired of eating the same thing (& I don't really Branch out that much). I just started going back to the gym & I may modify it to build back muscle. All I can say is at least do it if your quite overweight & when you get close to at least your minimum goal, then consider getting off of it or going to Mediterranean or just eating less because that's your new appetite now, even if it includes carbs.

I am currently 55 years old. I have been overweight my entire life. In the thousands of weight loss products, diets, and strategies I've tried, maintaining a ketogenic diet is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I wish I had discovered this way of eating many years ago. Typically I would follow a 1200 calorie diet which included a meal replacement shake or bar that was high in carbohydrates. Hence, I was always hungry and perpetually craved carbs to maintain my sugar addiction. Since adhering to a ketogenic lifestyle I've lost 40 lbs. and never suffer from being hungry or craving sweets. I wish more people knew about this way of eating so they too could stop the insanity of yo-yo dieting and starving yourself in an attempt to lose weight.

I've been on a low carb diet for about 3 months now and it feels so good. Coming from an Asian country where white rice is a staple, it's hard to cope at first. But after just one week of not eating white rice, I felt better. I never felt bloated again and lost several kgs.

Everyday I watch my co worker come in with fruit and yogurt smoothie. She finishes it, states still hungry ( like surprised) as she already had eggs and things at home. Eats some candy, has some tea or coffee, scavenges for more food. Says she feels sick, doesn’t move much unless searching for food. Orders in a big lunch, eats it all, goes through cycle of pain, then feels sick, then needs to rest, then super lethargic then says not feeling well and needs to go home. She is a very nice person but sees things quite negatively and exudes that probs cause she always feels bad cause sugars are all over the map. It’s terrible for productivity and general work atmosphere but I just keep thinking about these videos and it really inspires me to stick to it as I can see it all playing out - plain as day. 🤯Thanks again for your gift of info and I hope she gets on track and feeling better soon

Good info Tracy. People like your coworker also put tremendous strain on the health care system "and" health care system costs. I was told by a reliable source that a few years back the insurance companies in federal legislation wanted to offer lower rates to customers who ate healthfully and exercised etc. BUT, the foundations which supposedly support healthful lifestyles and prevention lobbied against the legislation and it failed. So people like you and me are probably paying 2 - 10 times more for health care than we would be otherwise. That said, in the past I was no saint in terms of my diet but as Dr. Berg often states bad health practices will "catch up with you". Too bad regarding your coworker but "perhaps" she will tire of suffering and change her lifestyle? We can only hope that she does. Take care.

I was that co-worker you describe (metaphorically) and yes adopting the keto diet even for a month or two has had a drastic effect on my health. I currently do carb cycling because the keto diet I adopted seemed to be missing something as I will eventually start getting cravings for certain foods which can be satiated by eating them then switching back to keto again afterwards.

The only truly negative thing about a LC/Keto lifestyle, is that the world seems to be against you. Food is such an integral part of our lives, societies and cultures. We dare to go against the "system" in a way. It baffles me when people become hostile or defensive just because I'm so content with rejecting carbs. Even non-vegans. The longer I stay in ketosis, the less I really care about other people's reactions concerning the food that I eat. Sometimes people think it's a competition to try to get me to break down and eat sweets, but that is very rare. In most cases, I think people are interested (particularly as the results have been quite dramatic) and supportive. When I used to follow the Atkins diet, salted chicken wings with ranch dip was a regular part of my diet. Now, I would consider that a break down and effectively a "cheat day". Also, the longer that I stay in ketosis the less I want to eat anything other than stick keto-friendly along the line of what Dr. Berg publishes. I can really eat out almost anywhere without a huge problem, but I prefer to cook all my meals to the extent possible.

@@SonuKumar-ir3pm Not necessarily, neuropathy is really just nerve damage. Depending on why you have nerve damage there are some things you can do to mitigate or fix it. High amounts of B12, Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions that put pressure on nerves, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol, and most importantly exercise and workout. Nerve damage is mostly due to your motor neurons and units failing to activate and respond properly. Quite literally training your motor neurons and body will help strengthen your neurological connection with your body. Get those neurons firing, get your body moving without being extremely repetitive in your exercises.

You can not recommend the same thing for every person, not all of us are the same, I tried low card (20-50 per day) for a few months, i did lose weight, but i stopped since i had a bad experience with stopping all sugars and very low carbs. It was 3 months without sugar and low carbs, i felt like my brain was on fire, i was very very foggy and couldn't focus at all, i had to get some sugar in and i did and it made me feel better immediately... my diet at that time was salad every day with nuts and avocado and olive oil, eggs, meats, fish, all organic grass fed, i dont eat dairy, and work out 5 times a week at the gym and walk 10 miles a week and still felt very very bad with no sugar, so you probably need to tell people that it is not for everyone.. Some will do better on no sugar but bump up the complex carbs to under 120 grams per day (instead of Keto 30-40 grams per day), i am Not a nutritionist and this is Not and advise on what to do or Not to do, but this is my story... I now eat the same food, low sugar (Eat banana and some blueberries almost every day) bump up the complex carbs to around 80-120 grams per day, i kept the weight i lost more or less, stable at 178-180 but i feel much better and my brain is not on fire anymore..

I'm on a Keto diet and doing well ... here's the question: Does anyone out there miss a baked sweet potato with melted butter as much as I do? I know, weird, right?

For the last 3 years, I've been minimal carbs (almost no breads/pastas/rice) and still managing 2500-3000 calories/day. I'm fine, in fact in terms of exercise performance, I've never been better!

Six months into healthy keto (or as I like to call it: Dr. Berg keto which includes intermittent fasting) and people hardly recognize me. I lost so much fat and look so much healthier (practically as in my 20's). It's not "long term" yet but I can see what's it like going to be in 2 yrs or more: my body will look young, be healthy, regenerate fast and generally feel great. I can have all those "side effects"!

Been eating keto for 3 weeks now down 22 pounds, better energy, sleep less but better quality. Traditional diets are near impossible for me as I felt extremely hungry all the time. The afternoon crashes are gone, sugar cravings are minimal at worst. Felt old and sore, was 310 pounds hope to get down to 220ish. Anybody can do it, get past the first week and it gets easier and you'll be amazed how much better you feel.

Rani Dr. Berry, a MD, also promoted keto and he has had medical training. Chiropractors actually get more nutritional training than actual medical doctors and know ore about whole body wellness than most physicians. Don’t throw the baby it with the bath water.

Over the past month Ive been transitioning into a more keto-like diet and I can tell you the benefits are remarkable. I havent been tracking my weight yet, but all I know is that my energy levels are through the roof. I dont have an afternoon lull, I feel energetic from morning to night. Im limiting my meals to 2 day (breakfast and dinner). I might mix one small snack in the middle, depending on my activity that day (mixed nuts, usually). In the morning Im having a hearty breakfast, normally 2-3 egg omelette, with ham, spinach, cheese, and side of tomatoes and avocado, and my daily cup of coffee (no creamer). Dinner is a full course meal, minus any bread, rice, potato. I think Im hooked, thanks for the insight Doc.
