I am a mother of 3 and was needing a larger vehicle. I have had the Yukon Denali and did not like how LARGE that was. It was like driving a tank. I then had the Chrysler Pacifica Mini Van which was great... but it did not have all wheel drive and it is still a mini van. So... to fight that stigma I have now tried this Acura MDX 2022 Advance. It was a brand new design for 2022 and since it had many of the features I was looking for in a vehicle I went for it. I didn't have much to go off of when we bought it as it was just released.
There are many videos speaking about the features of this SUV but I wanted to give a mom's opinion. I also wanted to give a long term "in depth" look at what (as a mom) I liked... and hated... about this car.

that gives me hope that maybe mine is just a lemon with regards to the key situation. I still wish I had my touch screen back but it is an amazing car... especially in bad weather... that is where it shines in my opinion.

Thank you for your review. To me, reviews by regular people who actually use the cars daily has more bearing in forming my decision if I buy one. I have been wanting to get one but I’m having reservations about the touch pad instead of a touch screen. I can’t imagine taking my eyes off the road to look down and fumble with the touch pad to change or adjust anything. Touch screen is simply better. I’ll probably wait and hope that Acura will install a touch screen before I’ll plunk my money on one.

I hated it… but after a while I learned that it still sucks and I hate it more. Fingers crossed newer models have changed this as the car is pretty amazing to drive… just confusing infotainment with track pad and no touch screen!

Literally the 2 biggest things that stop me from buying this car is the touchpad, the piano black trim, and the weird tech problems I've been hearing. I expect so much better out of Honda.

@@Luisr777 The display just turns off at times. The tech issues are one thing, but the terrible MPG is another. I've seen countless people in forums talking about mid-teens for MPG on the highway.

I like the day to day review of what it’s like to own one. I wish more review of vehicles are like this. You could try recording the situation at the carline and explaining it to the dealer or ask them to go on a 20 min test drive. Good thing it’s a lease

Noted! And done! I did record what it was doing and I did show it to the dealer. They kept it a day and said nothing was wrong. I switched batteries and nothing. I DID SWITCH TO MY HUSBANDS FOB... and now it is not doing that anymore. I am thinking FOB issue not battery. Thanks for the great input!

Car will only start when you hold the remote near the start button and says remote not detected is most likely because your remote battery is weak/dead or possibly the remote needs to be reprogrammed. Touchpad works fine. Your infotainment system is not a touchscreen smartphone. Think of it as a laptop or pc with a mouse pad. Either way you still have to take your eyes off the road to look at the screen. Bonus, no fingerprints on the screen!

Wow, I’m glad I stuck with the 3rd gen 2019 Acura MDX A-spec. Sounds like the technology problems will instantly kill my likeness for the car. There shouldn’t be any excuse for problems like these for a 2022 year.

Every newly redesigned models have issues, not just this vehicle. Also, these are minor glitches that will be fixed with time, though I understand how they can be annoying.

Thanks for the review! I'm leaning toward the MDX to replace two Nissan Muranos. My wife stopped driving months ago, so we can do with one vehicle. I enjoyed the woman's perspective in day-to-day use. I had a 2010 RX350 that had the "touchpad" controller and found it equally annoying. It did have a touchscreen, but it was awkwardly far from driving position. I used voice recognition, but it was very inaccurate and thus annoying as well. I love the styling and apparent comfort, as well as the cargo area's layout and extras. Piano black plastic doesn't belong in any car. I have a good amount of it. Some entrepreneur should come up with vinyl wrap kits for those areas, say in carbon fiber, body color, or? Love MO, wife's got relatives there! Go Lamberts! 👋

My brother in-law bought one like yours ( the same year I think ) and when it was new, it had the same "none starting" issue, too. I'll have to asked him if the dealer ever found the problem.

We kind of just gave up and figure it is just par for the course. It doesn’t do it as much anymore (although it still does) we still have mixed feelings about this car. It is comfortable.

The starting issue might be if you have anything else next to the fab that could interrupt the signal. For example, phone, batteries, other key fab, etc. I have had a few misc occasions where my tlx did the same thing. Could be low battery too. Also, I agree with the track pad, but I think the whole point is that you shouldn't be messing with it while driving anyway. I think that's the philosophy they were going with. Thanks for sharing though. I found it useful. Do you mainly do city driving to only get the 18 mpg?

Yes I mainly do city driving, the starting only happens occasionally while in the school carline, sometimes it’s after just a few minutes of the car being off up to around 20 minutes.

A smartphone will block the signal.. if I have both in my pocket & the Fob is behind my phone it won’t register.

Im looking at a used 22 and have used the wireless charge pad on my trst drives. No issues for me, but i know the touch screen thing. I constantly was reaching up and tapping the screen. It wasnt such a big deal once i realized i could control mpst things from thecsteering wheel after setting up everything to personalize.

One question, Does the walk away auto closing tailgate locks the car after closing the tailgate?

I don’t have my car set up to auto lock when I walk away so it doesn’t for mine. I’m unsure if it would with that setting enabled.

Did you change the battery on your remote key fob? How about use the other key fob?

Yes. We changed both batteries on the key fobs... I would not have thought that would be an issue as the problems started after only 6 months of owning the car... but we changed them anyway.

We love the car except for the few quarks (and the personal preference of not having a touch screen ). Nothing handles better in the snow . The awd system is amazing. Seats are comfortable. It’s a lease for us. If they have not gotten a touch screen in a year and a half we will go elsewhere. If they have changed a few things we may re -up.

@@TheHappyHootie Very true, I had a 2015 Acura MDX that I traded for a mercedes GLS and I regretted it from a performance perspective, the Acura is still the best in adverse weather!

The touchpad Is super annoying. Usually it doesn’t select the right item and like you said, you touchscreen would have been better. My phone charging pad doesn’t really work well. The Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth features competing gets me frustrated. I agree with you on the Technology. Great review. Thanks

You are right about the wireless charging pad. It is very unreliable@ Click on the link below that has an aftermarket charger that fits perfectly on the charging pad and works great! Touchpad works fine. Your infotainment system is not a touchscreen smartphone. Think of it as a laptop or pc with a mouse pad. Either way you still have to take your eyes off the road to look at the screen. Bonus, no fingerprints on the screen!

We loved the vehicle aside from the touch screen. The SH-AWD super handling all wheel drive system worked amazing in bad weather and snow. It was comfortable, sure... not as quiet as a lexus, but the price was on point for what you got. Tech was up there, just could not stand the screen and track pad. I heard in 25 they are refinishing the interior with a touch screen and would be worth another look. IMO

How is the ventilation in the third row? I am worried about it getting hot back there for my kids with only small floor vents.

It’s not bad. We only have our oldest back there but she doesn’t complain. Well… she complains… but about everything else… temperature stays pretty consistent throughout the vehicle. I wouldn’t think it would be an issue

What type of gas do you put in the mdx ?

Mainly 89. Use some 91 but usually no higher than that. It runs fine with standard gas

That weird key thing definitely sounds like a key issue rather than the car. It's not detecting the key. Does it happen with the other key? I haven't seen this happen.

I switched key fobs with my husband and its the same thing. I took it into the dealer and they couldn't find a problem. It doesn't do it often so hoping it is a location thing where there is interference outside that is messing with the fob?

@@TheHappyHootie I heard this may be related to the feature where you walk away from the car and it auto locks. Disabling that seems to fix the non-start issue.

Excellent review, I have 2023 model. Electronics are not good. It has few gadgets that are useles. Trailer hitch was installed and "Foot" open lid featureno longe work ?? On my 2017 MDX It was possible to upload 6 diferent photos to have on your screen instad of this ugly screen. Good job !

Apple car play works great! It is wireless so as long as the phone is connected it will pick it up shortly after the car is started.

Thank you, but you didn’t discuss how it actually drives, the engine, power, torque etc…..I’m in my 3rd MDX and have a 2022 on order but very unsure if I should follow through. Reliability is super important but the transmission has been clunky with the last two.🤔😃

It drives great! Handles well in bad weather and zips around when I want it to. It has different drive modes so depending on which one you select it handles a bit different. My biggest complaint is the touch pad.

Good video. I own the exact same car and I can say I don't have the issues you have with the keyfob. I don't use car play, android auto works well. I really love my car and plan to keep it for as long as I can. Never had a issues with reflecting surface of my phone but that could just be a difference in height.

Thanks for sharing. I don't have android. Other cars that have apple carplay have worked better than this but it could just be me. I am almost 6 feet tall so it could be the angle. Thanks for the input! I may need to adjust my seat to ride lower in the saddle :-)

Not surprised to hear of the crazy technical issues. Here is the nightmare we had with ours, and had to return it because Honda/Acura couldn't/wouldn't fix it: Side note, we also had a bunch of technical issues not mentioned in my video but never got to the point of getting them addressed. I never buy a 1st year of a new generation vehicle! No exceptions. Period! I have a ‘24 I picked it up late ‘23 no issues. The touchpad is great, ergonomic, safe, no greasy prints. It’s so intuitive. You have to be a spazz not to master after a few minutes of use. It’s not complicated in the least. Touchscreens are distracting, pulls your eyes from the road, you always have to lean or reach to access them and a giant PIA to keep clean. People are wacky today they’re too distracted as is, & drive like they’re seated in their family rooms. I drive a lot and the nonsense I see from distracted drivers fiddling with their cars info sys and phones is just insane !

no doubt. some of the newer Lexus vehicles have really nice touch screens, but for a while I would not buy one that used the track pad! So frustrating!

Still to early to buy these .. first model year 2022 will be loaded with flaws .. the real problems will take at least 2-3 years to show up …. So rule of thumb never ever buy a new model first release … you leased it which is very smart thing to do …

The major plus is that it is the best handling suv for winter I have ever owned. And the seats are comfortable. But ya… I will be switching out at end of lease

I know right! I just expected I could have them in my pocket or purse and not have to hold them up to the Start Button. If that was the case I would just put in a key.

I have this POS, I will never buy another Honda product again. The infotainment is such a horror show. The car randomly would tell me to hit the brakes when there is nothing in front of me.

@@TheHappyHootie try playing music from your iPhone via Apple CarPlay and then bring up an app like Amazon on your iPhone and see what happens to the sound. Every speaker shuts off but for the center on the dash and it gets a sound boost. You try to switch to radio and it won’t let you. Everything back to normal once you exit the app. What shitty programmers Honda hired.
