As someone who has worked with VAs as a handler...there is sooooo many issues that can come up. I won't go into too much details but yeah the parasocial relationships can lead to some bad BAD stuff. I can only think of ONE relationship that has worked out. And it was only because the woman's BF was the fan (of a show) and NOT her. So when she did get into a relationship with the VA, she legit had no idea who the fuck he was or who he voiced.

I was a follower of someone whose entire youtube/twitch career imploded because he got into a relationship with a viewer and then cheated on her. Don't fuck your fans and don't put streamers on a pedestal/try to date them.

From the get-go there's a preconceived notion of "superiority" (unlike someone you met who look at eachother equally immediately) and can fuck up relationship dynamics. I'm sure there are exemptions, but literally its a risk not worth its payout.

It CAN work but I could easily see it going wrong so I agree. That said I am a hypocrite. I dated a work colleague and it just so happened her Mother worked for the same Business, so basically I was working with my GF and Future Mother-in-law- talk about crazy right? Worse still, I moved in together with my gf after only 3 weeks of dating. I am normally a calm logical person but, not in this case. Utterly insane and I can't believe I did it. But...... It all worked out-thankfully I married her, then a year later became my own wife's boss at work and still worked alongside my own Mother-in-law who was higher up than us both. A year after that we a child together and were happily married before sadly my wife passed away several years later of illness. One way of looking at the craziness of how things went above is that, had I taken my time, I'd never have married nor had a child with her. Not saying it wasn't hard, It was a stressful crazy life but we made it work and had the golden rule of "never talk business at home, never talk love at work" Not easy being a single Dad, even after all these years but I'm glad I have my son. I guess my point is, if it's r the ight people and right situation for them then it's not impossible to make it work. That said, I wouldn't suggest it lightly.If I had to put odds on it, I bet it was a low chance of working out in my case. As for KZfaq and mods, I bet those chances are equally bad. Despite how it ended for me though, I'd do it all again: what can I say? I'm crazy when in love and she was worth taking the chance.

This feels like “As someone who probably has more first hand experience streaming and dealing with obsessive parasocial relationships than most people and even content creators in general, I can pretty easily assert that said streamer is probably only expressing appreciation, and you should probably leave them alone because they probably don’t want to have to go through that.” He’s probably right, but it feels disingenuous to not give the regular advice of don’t be a weirdo and have reasonable expectations purely due to how relatable the situation was for him, especially considering how little he actually knows about the situation. Note: This means nothing about his character at all. In fact, I’m literally doing armchair psychoanalysis of a 2 minute clip of an improv actor doing a bit. I have too much free time.

I wrote this because I’m pretty sure most people, like me, don’t actually think it’s Rainhoe and that the clip was a funny coincidence considering the recent Rainhoe subathon stuff. In general any assumptions about anything beyond what explicitly said is not something I think is reasonable to subscribe to (and even then it’s suspect at best).

Sounds like a good chance it's a parasocial relationship, likely one way on the mod's part. People fall in love with streamers and celebrities in general all the time and the chances of them actually returning those feelings is extremely small. It's even worse in this scenario since it's like an employer situation which just creates a weird power dynamic and makes it really awkward.
