Hello Dr. Islam, great conceptualization and a very promising engineering execution. I wish you and your team would create a great steering-maneuvering system in the post euro modular era of European Transportation.

Im not sure about this. Look at 3:56 .. The second trailer is coming out far into oncoming, could lead to bad situations especially on winter roads no?
@danielrose1392

Check the on screen comments, so far they run it with a single optimization goal not considering that. There are situations where the trailer has to go out that far because it otherwise would not fit, but it should definitely not be the default way of turning.

Doesn't matter. They are trying to push the limits of minimum legal turning circle requirements with this combo. Roads aren't built with trucks in mind anyway, so there's always a lack of space in all but few roundabouts. People just need to understand that trucks take up a lot of space and have legal rights to use all available space present, in a safe manner. I'm more worried about the wheels. Takes a hell of a beating and won't last long.

rear steering on the tri-axle trailers would also improve the turning circle of this combination.. or didn't the designers think of that...

I would like to think that the designers thought of using the system with existing trailers without the steering axles for maximum interoperability...

the system is designed to be used with conventional trailers to make it as versatile as possible, you can use it on any trailers then rather than having to go to the expense of having specialised trailers as well

I like to test drive two trailer set up with the fifth wheel on the lead trailer .It make it easy for reversing .Can the drive control the steering in the dolly of this combination .It make it more easy to reverse .

I agree with you Teri. Self-tracking or rear steer axles have been around since at least the 60's, from companies such as Primrose-Ceshi, Merriworth and BPW. They reduce tyre ware by reducing scrub, cause less damage to tarmac and reduce cut in, either forward or in reverse. I think they should become mandatory, especially if UK trailers increase in length, which will happen

Looking at the wheels of the steering dolly and third axle on second trailer,it is clear there is scope for wheel loss and accelerated wear from side forces greater than rotational direction.

Why not just implement this on the trailer itself like we have in Australia and New Zealand. Usually the last 2 axles on our quads are steerers with a similar concept and reduces turning circle with added benefit of reduced tyre wear

That's what European trailers do as well. It is not very effective on tight European roads when you have to take a sharp turn with a tandem.

All well and good on a nice big round about with nothing else on it now try with car bikes and other trucks on it at the same time lol how does the rear steer ? If by remote that would be illegal as both hands must be on the wheel.

Smaller lighter automobiles sharing the roads with larger, much heavier trucks. As a trucker now retired I would not be completely comfortable with the odds. Little matters as long as the profit margin increases relatively steadily I suppose.

To start with, the rear overhang on the trailers goes a long way to steering the dolly to track wider. Second, the dolly steering system could get you into trouble with the long front overhang that is favoured in Europe. A further observation is made from about 13 years ago. An Australia operator had a trailer that had a steering tri axle group, which steered outside of the width of the trailer. This had to be used carefully, as if not careful, you could wipe out a car that is parked on the side of the road.

Trucker here: pay me 5000€ a month and I’ll drive that . If you’re gonna pay me just 200€ over my normal salary like most companies do to get into that death machine, you’re mistaken. No trucker should accept driving that. It’s less jobs, two trailers one driver. We are already exploited enough the proliferation of mega trucks is unsafe for us and traffic

@Engineer9736

John Coleman You just have to get adjusted to it i guess. It's the same process as the very first time you drove with a trailer - Learning where the very rear ends up when turning. But with steerable dollies it will be much in your favor.

@sparkydog2
@sparkydog2 6 жыл бұрын
