While I was working at Lowe's, I had a customer yell at one of the girls up front and made her cry. I stepped in and asked what the problem was. She was mad because the girl asked her for her phone number to find her order. I said I would take care of it. I found her order and asked her to drive up front and I would personally put it in her car (she was picking up a Christmas tree of all things). I loaded up her car and before she left I said, "ma'am I believe you owe my cashier an apology. You were extremely rude to her for simply doing her job(she starts to interrupt me and I hold up my hand) ma'am you owe her an apology and I think that since you are picking up a tree for Christmas you must understand the holiday spirit , which seems to me you have forgotten. You made her cry and I am sure that was not your intentions correct"? She looked at me like I was nuts but marched her little ass inside and apologized to my cashier for being rude. Maybe if more manager's put people in their place then they wouldn't behave like the spoiled brats they are. Just my two cents.

Working in retail only shows how little regard and respect some people have. And also general intelligence. Many customers are mouth breathers buying things they don't need or understand especially in Tech only to get frustrated with you when their own ignorance makes it difficult to assist them. Not all are like this to be fair. But it's clear whoever made that saying, "the customer is always right" was some corporate suit that never had to interact with them.

I remember I ordered some wings at a bar and an hour later they hadn’t come out, it turns out the new server forgot to ring it up. I didn’t make a fuss, got a 30 piece on the house as well as most of my drinks comped, and still left a good tip. Man those bartenders still hook me up to this day. I remember working as a big box cashier. It was vital to my development . You Learn how to read people. Some customers were so miserable that you could see how much they hated their lives without them saying a word. They waited to be interacted with. They waited to witness a mistake or to experience some sort of slight. They prayed for these moments so that they could unleash all of their self hate. They’d be willing to wait for hours to speak to the manager just to be heard. Shit was sad and hella entertaining.

As someone who has a part time job on costumer service, my company literally wants us to act this way whenever someone has a complaint, no matter if they treat us as if we weren't human. They literally give gift certificates everytime a slight inconvenience happens, literally rewarding this behavior. Edit: For the ones that wanna know what the company is, for uh, reasons: it's not worth it lol. Everything costs from 35$ and up for things you could easily get for WAY cheaper on the store next to you. Very overpriced and they supposedly deliver "more quality", but still, VERY overpriced. So essentially, they would be getting their money back with a gift certificate lol, but they still give them out like candy.

As a customer support.. this hits home so hard. We have those customers on a daily basis and I wish I was exaggerating. I don’t know exactly what is there to overcharge but they keep on calling trying to raise a complaint to the higher ups for no reason. Once, I had to deal with a client who called on us saying she was overcharged, I checked her details and everything was okay, but she kept on saying that she paid in store more. Legit the management went on to my chat with them and asked what is going on why is it taking so long so I asked them to assist and listen to the call. We suggested her to take a picture of the receipt to send it over to our email. Can’t, not talking over from a phone that could take. And she started explaining how she was bedridden, a refuge, had a disability, told me to take a car and get her to the store. We can only check the details of store purchases, but can’t do anyrhing about them unless the purchase was online. So we came to the conclusion to send her some gift voucher because she sounded furious wanting to speak to the higher ups… Also that was a call that popped in the system 1 minute before we had to log off. :) Was a fun 15-20 min after work.

My favorite was when I worked in retail, people tried to return stuff that we didn't even sale. It was store brand FOR A DIFFERENT STORE. Then when they couldn't return it, they would say "I'm never shopping here again" to which they got a "apparently you didn't already so bye"

Working at home depot as the supervisors 2nd (i forget the title, but when the supervisor wasn't there I was acting supervisor for returns) this lady came in and wanted to return $2k+ worth of assorted tile and flooring. She had a buttload of receipts and it took forever to get through. The two parts that sucked were that some of what she was returning wasn't on her receipts. So, part of her return would be store credit. She wanted all $2k returned to her at that moment. There is no way possible for it to be given to her and she leave with that amount cash. I told her that we would be issuing her a check and she would get it in 3-5 business days. She was having non of it, and proceeded to throw a fit. I told her we don't carry that much cash in our registers and it's against company policy to issue a cash return of that amount. It wouldn't have been a problem to put it back on her cards if she paid it that way, but she paid cash and the part that made it worse was the issuing of store credit. She wanted cash no credit. Long story short, my store director got involved and sent her on her way to wait on her mailed check.

Maybe it’s the fact that I didn’t work at a retail store for too long. (2 months at most). But, at my first retail job, I surprisingly didn’t really have any issues with customers. My issues were mainly with my 2 managers, one of whom I didn’t like from the very moment she spoke to me (I knew she was gonna be annoying as hell, and she was). And the other one who seemed nice at first, but just end up being bossy, didn’t speak clearly, and was kinda just ungrateful, and did me REALLY dirty during the Christmas season. I asked her in October if I could have 2 weeks off during the Christmas season to go see family in Texas then hit Florida. She said I could only have 1 since “Christmas is their busiest time.” So I sacrifice going to see family in Texas and figure I can work and make some good money for Florida. Come Christmas time I get no hours, she doesn’t speak clearly to me about how to change my schedule (it had to be through the system indoors) and even after I did, they still didn’t give me hours. So stayed home for nothing and couldn’t even make some money for Florida. AND it turned out they had a special app to talk to each other (because we can’t message the managers directly) and get extra shifts that they never even bother to tell me until 3 months after I started working there. And when I called them about it, another manager was like “It says here you took these 2 weeks off.” I was so angry. I held the door open for her on my last day on the job since her hands were full and she was struggling to hold it all, and instead of saying “Thank you.” She scolds me for being late (even though we both arrived basically at the same time). I wanted to tell her off and just leave and close the door in her face (it was too early in the morning for that BS). But, I never really had a negative experience with a customer. I guess I just got lucky in that sense😭😂 But, I’d probably NEVER work there again though.

The answer I always get: "But they paid with credit card!" The worst case I ever had was a customer demanding we refund him for a packet of batteries because they didn't last more than 2 weeks. He also demanded we reimburse him for the gas he used to drive back to the store. I wish I was kidding, I had to call the cops after he started knocking over shelves and watch them escort him out kicking and screaming over 7$ worth of batteries. He was also yelling "POLICE BRUTALITY" all the way out, because of course.

Yo that's a whole ass car though. If your techs don't do their due diligence and I don't notice until outside the return period or worse, it's a final sale, I am out 10's of thousands of dollars. People have a reason to be concerned if something is wrong with a vehicle they are buying and it isn't adequately disclosed. Found an oil leak on a Subaru Forester same day I bought it, conveniently no indicator lights were showing up. Whatever the circumstance techs should have caught that, the dealer claimed they have a rigorous inspection. I feel for the car salesmen since you may have no clue, you aren't the techs, but dealerships as a whole are not trustworthy.

Those 6 weeks showed me why you don't want to work in direct contact with customers. I had an old guy actually being mad at me because we didn't have the brand of beer he wanted, as if I had any influence on that. Some people asked me to check if stuff was still in stock in the warehouse because the shelves were empty, which isn't the most unreasonable request, but the amount of stuff in the warehouse is crazy and I am sure as hell not looking for and opening a new pallet of products just so you can get one pack of chewing gum or whatever. You just get complaint after complaint as if the 18 year old kid stocking shelves can do anything about it but people don't care.
