I live in Texas; and there is some magnificent longboarding in very particular places here. But I've never heard of anybody coming to Texas to longboard. That's a new one.

Hey Pain, There are some things you can do for the nose to make it last longer but nose guards are tough to build for wooden kicktail decks. The easiest one is probably duct tape, which actually helps quite a bit. I have also seen people use Oogoo to build nose bumpers but the biggest thing is to be good to your board and repair it when necessary. The Apex construction is a less complex to build guards for (thinner is easier to protect) thats why we did that first.

What you're seeing is called the Pumped-Up Kick Tails, or PKs which can be mounted onto any of the Apex boards. The PKs add height to the kicktails which will enhance the kicks for freestyle performance, while also protecting your board against impact hits. -Lindsay

Those guards are setup specific to the Apex series (Apex 34, Apex 37, Apex 40), Basically the reason we don't have them for the other boards we make (and that no one else makes this type of guard) is that the Apexes are incredibly thin (.334 in vs .610 in for a 9ply deck). That makes it easier and drastically less expensive to make a durable nose guard; hence the $19.00 price tag for a set of the guards.

Right on Patrick, The good news is you can just pick up the deck and then get wheels someplace else to keep it cheaper. Remember that there is no substitute for the materials we are using in the Apex 40. You CAN make a board cheaper, but it won't be better, particularly for tricks and freestyle. You are going to wear out a maple deck quick, and a while a fiberglass deck would last longer, it is still no where close to the durability that the DiamondDrop Apex 40 will give you in freestyle.

Molly is on a couple of different boards throughout the video. The short little carver that you see her on in the segements where she is sort of surf skating is called the Derringer 28. Pretty much easy to carry anywhere and super fun on flats or very small hills where you just want to mess around. I believe for the rest of the video she is on the DiamondDrop Apex 40 which is awesome sliding, flip tricks, carving and even some light downhill (below 35mph). Thats my fav too haha

Hey Curry, You can truthfully slide with any board. Generally it is easier for beginners to slide on loose setups vs. tight setups so that would be the first thing I would try. That said we have a super hard time keeping up with all the help / questions coming in from our riders, the guys over at Sector will know more about their boards / setups to be sure! If you don't have any luck over there come on back : )

The Av Rocker means the board has reversed camber, so the deck is shaped like a "U". This adds a bit more height to the kicks, and so it's geared more towards freestyle riding. The double concave has concave near the nose and tail, which gives you a comfy place to plant your foot for slides and freeriding control. -Lindsay

Since you're just starting out I would totally suggest the Pintail 40 for you. It is an easy board to learn on since it's low to the ground and stable. It's meant for cruising and carving purposes, and can also handle some small hills and easier slides.

That'll be the Drop Freeride 41 ($99) Super solid for cruising / low for pushing. Very strong slide initiation and great stability for downhill. It is by far one of our most popular decks to start out on if you are planning on getting into sliding / light downhill. For pure downhill I might start on the Arbiter 36 instead, but either way its good to have a drop deck in your pocket for learning to slide.

Hi Billy! For just cruising down some smaller hills, check out the Pintail 43! You can stick with the S8 trucks but put some red medium tension springs in them for some added stability. -Lindsay

That would be the Original Drop Freeride 41. One of our favorite all-around sliding / freeride decks... which as you can see... can also be danced on if you are of the mind to push it that direction haha

Hey Saorise! Many times if people are used to a stiffer bushing truck, the first thing they want to do is over-tighten Original trucks for more stability. Cranking down the trucks will result in breaking the cams, lock tabs, or base plate. To avoid this, we offer different tension springs which make a significant difference in the stability of the trucks. Also, you don't HAVE to put Original trucks on our decks. We do offer other trucks as well ;) -Lindsay

It's not about what's cooler but what brings you the most joy. Tried to ride with friends longboard and now I am considering to get myself one just to ride around the city and maybe go downhill. From what I've seen so far skateboarders seem to be jelly because people are riding boards and are not necessarily doing flashy tricks. You say longboard lacks control but to be honest I've never had so much control on a board before.

The DiamondDrop was designed for a blending of freeride and freestyle. The durability that comes from the carbon reinforcement of the neck and the PK nose guards (which more importantly add a ton of pop) are the primary reasons you would go with that board for freestyle. Beyond the fact that it just looks awesome. So! If you aren't into tricks, check out the Drop Freeride 41 ($129 deck) for freeride or the Arbiter 36 ($99 deck) for downhill.

being a unicyclist and longboarder (no joke i actually own and do both) i would recommend a longboard for fun cruising and getting places. If you want to be noticed and be in random parades and have people basically cheering you on no matter what go with unicycles. I personally prefer the longboard over unicycle. my brother prefers the unicycle.

Well, depending your preference of riding, a good all around board in my opinion is the Apex 40. It's long enough to cross step, has nose and kicktails for freestyle, certain concaves of the board help you keep locked in during freeriding, and is stable enough to do downhill. It's my go-to board for mostly all styles of riding. Check it out! - Bish
