I love how yellow / orange the wigglers are! I've bred kribs before and their wigglers were transparent / Gray and really hard to see against the substrate (harder for predators to see I guess). BN wigglers are so cute!

How about lemon bristlenose? I really like the blue eyes so thinking of getting a pair of lemons. Do they sell well? Does anyone know what would happen if a lemon and a super red is bred together? Do you get a mix of both colours in the fry or is one colour dominant over the other?

I’ve read from another breeder that using one parent as a long fin and one a short fin produces hardier and quicker growing fry. Have you experienced a lengthened timeframe in maturation when using long fin for both parents. I have only bred using the mixed short/long fin method in albinos and regular bristlenose and they do well, just wondering about your experience as I’ve just acquired 4 long fin red fry for my breeding project.

I've done both but honestly never noticed a difference in fry growth rate or fatality rate. I think the amount of feeding and water quality are the biggest factors

Yes you are correct. A shortfin x longfin cross will produce more vigorous fry. A double dose of the longfin gene (i.e both parents longfin) will produce 25% smaller, less vigorous fry than a single dose of longfin gene. In essence double dose longfin parents will produce 25% shortfin, 50% single dose longfin, and 25% double dose longfin which those will be the weaker smaller fy that eventually will not be able to produce well. You can breed both longfin parents but you would have to sort out the weaker smaller double dose fry. I have been breeding bristlenose plecos for 20 years and was one of the first to have super red plecos imported from Germany, which I still have the original line today. We then created the longfin line of super red plecos by crossing a leucistic albino longfin female to a male shortfin super red. Which eventually produced what you see in this video. -Jay

I just lost my breeding male. I was wondering do yours always breed with longfins? Mine spawned about seven times it more. I noticed some were longfin some were not.
