The improvement in video output between the original model and the SNES Jr. was downright shocking to me when I picked one up about a year ago. Always knew it was different, but I thought I'd need side-by-side comparisons to see a difference. Nope! Totally worth it to grab one and install the RGB bypass.

Yeah I totally agree, it was shocking to see the improvement in quality between the one chip and the older three chip consoles. It’s definitely worth the upgrade and it’s also pretty easy to do

Very cool! I have a stock SNES Jr, glad to know it might be a powerhouse to mod. Also congrats on that rare SNES cart! I think the last one sold on ebay for over $4k whew!

there are a few more improvements you can make such as replacing the voltage regulator, the ghosting fix and the jailbar fix.

I enjoy your SNES Jr. mod videos. Any chance we will ever see a USB-C mod to a SNES Jr. I'd be really interested in that mod.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It’s possible to change the power connector to USB C but I’m not sure if there’s a nice replacement back panel available for the jr.

Hello sir first of all love your videos , but could you help me ? Where dit you got the clip from to attach the led to the snes shell ? And does it come in a pack , led and clip and resistor for one price ? Keep up the good videos thanks mate 👍👍

You can find a link in the description for that clip. I 3-D printed it and if you don’t have a printer you can get it printed using a service. Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

Hello! I've been struggling with a issue. I gave my old SNES Jr to my niece but something weird is happening. I have no response on the controllers when they are both plugged in. Both ports are working fine when plugging a single controller, and both controllers work fine too when they are plugged alone, the issue only happens when the two controllers are connected at the same time. Do you know what the issue might be? Thank you and thumbs up for the great video!

do you have a vendor you would recommend to print out the led mounting bracket?
@LIRetroGaming

You can use a number of different 3-D printing services to make it for you. PCB way definitely can do it.

Will I see any benefit with composite cables connected to an hdmi upscaler?

Not with composite cables. You would see the benefit with component cables or RGB cables

Hey, I had a question. Can you use an N64 RGB mod kit to get RGB from a SNES JR? I noticed the pinout on the av is the same, so shouldn’t it work as well? The SNES JR RGB kits are much harder to come by.
@LIRetroGaming
@LIRetroGaming Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t think that will work. The RGB levels from the n64 and snes are probably not the same and therefore there would be different components on the input side before the RGB is sent to the ths7374 chip
@threwanade
@threwanade 4 күн бұрын
You absolutely can just remove the 3 resistors on the input side of the pcb

How did you connect the SNES to your TV?
@LIRetroGaming

I was using snes RGB cables and they connect to my OSSC scaler. From there the OSSC provides hdmi to the tv

I have a silly question. I have a Super Famicom 1 chip-02 that already outputs great RGB via HD Retrovision cables and Rt5x. To install the Voultar RGB board would be redundant right? It couldn't possibly be 30 dollars better? I do know my original SNES is a 2 chip and its output isnt nearly as sharp. Like its not just snake oil lol. Originally I was skeptical until I compared them myself. I suppose it would be time to re cap them too.
@LIRetroGaming
@LIRetroGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Those are good questions. Yes the RGB board would be completely redundant for both of those systems. They already have RGB and the image quality would not change at all if you were using the RGB bypass board. That board is really only useful for the junior. But aside from that new capacitors certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea
@frankbizzoco1954
@frankbizzoco1954 2 жыл бұрын
@@LIRetroGaming do you do cap replacing? I did not see that service on the website.. You actually did the RGB mod on my Sharp Twin, and I feel like if they were in bad shape, it would be brought to my attention when you had it. I would be incredibly sad if my Sharp Twin died.
@LIRetroGaming
@LIRetroGaming 2 жыл бұрын
If I inspect a console and I find bad caps, then I always contact the customer and get them replaced. Fortunately the sharp twin Famicom uses really high-quality caps and I’ve never seen one fail yet. The same was true here, these caps were in good shape and the person just wanted them replaced for preventative maintenance reasons

@@LIRetroGaming Good to know. Maybe if any mods are done in the future, i'll have them replaced. For now I'll let it ride.

One benefit for a 1 chip is to get rid of the white bar that some consoles have but if yours doesn’t have it it’s fine and another reason is it includes the 3 current attenuating resistors for the brightness fix but I’m gonna make a pcb that just does that and throw it up on osh park for people to get cheap
