In the diagram at 16:00 you drew LHA from the celestial body but LHA It is the angle between the meridian of your Assumed Position and the meridian of the geographical position of the celestial body.

sir i have a doubt. how will we find the observed long when our DR longitude is 000 degree 00 minutes. its neighter west or east so how can we decide to add or subtract.?

Sanjeev, if its zero deg zero min, it will not matter if you add or subtract

Adding and substraction depends upon the lattitude and declination of sun. Your SMT WILL BE YOUR GMT you will be in zone zero.

You have to use haversine tables from the Nautical almanac. That is how we did it when we were cadets:)

Position line is perpendicular to the bearing (azimuth). the bearing line and position line work as a bearing and range (like for a normal land-based objects). Statistically, the position line tells us that somewhere on it is the position of the vessel. we only know where the exact position is when 2 or more position lines intersect.

You can work out the ship's time of meridian passage of the sun using data from the nautical almanac. see my videos on meridian passage :)

when the sun comes on my long when i am on prime meridian chronometer show 12 o clock but when we go western hemisphere on particular longitude then again sun comes on my longnitude the time is increase from 12 hours and decrease in eastern hemisphere why....??

You are not able to plot the position obtained by Longxchron. What is the big deal in showing the PL , most of you guys don't know what is to be done further.

Sir, please explain how to draw the PL and the position from which it is drawn. In the video the method of drawing the PL is almost similar to that of intercept , except the distance of the DR position is not shown.

before meridian means when the sun is before meridian i.e AM/sun's rising after meridian means when the sun is after Meridian i.e PM/ sun's Setting

Ok, say we timed the transit of a star across the prime meridian at 10.00 pm local, since the sidereal day is 23 hours, 56 minutes 4.0916 seconds, we know if we were stationary the same star would be back on the meridian at 9:53:55.084 the following night .. suppose we were at sea and heading along the same degree of latitude. Compute longitude by timing the transit of the same star, thus if it crossed the meridian early we have gone a set distance converted to degrees of longitude east, conversely it the transit was later than 9:53:55.84 we would have gone a set distance converted to degrees of longitude west.
