Dude, when I was in the theater after he said “hail satan” the lights in my theater flickered 3 times. And I’m from a smaller town that doesn’t invest in cinema so it’s not something they’d go out of their way to do. But after that happened the atmosphere in the theater changed. Nick Cage is one of those actors who just acts because he can and because he likes doing it. Dude is apparently super chill in person, and IIRC has even taken pay cuts on movies so other crew/actors/etc can get their fair share. Seems like a decent guy. Always puts like 110% into a role no matter what it is and that's honestly really admirable.

Having just come back from watching it 1) That intial scene, is phenominal 2) The main character to me (and to my friend, and the three people behind us) just comes across as autistic, not flat. Reading it through that lens made how she responded to certain things very familiar, and as such much eerier. 3) The direction and production were utterly stunning. The way the movie is shot, colour graded, even the choice to put flashbacks and key scenes in a different aspect ratio, it's all so so well done 4) The choice to make the victims be a very specific group of people, removes the terror from the main villian. Very much a Halloween 2 effect. The lead up however is brilliant, and Nick Cage is incredibly damn creepy.

As soon as I got out of the movie I was excited to watch your video on it. I knew a lot of people watching wouldn’t like it: It’s weird, it’s stylized, it’s intense and not outwardly scary. But I knew you and your community would be on the same page as me 😂 The enjoyment I got out of it was for sure the details: The long shots, the lighting, the detective breakdown of the story, the square (Polaroid 👀) framing of the memories, the Devil silhouettes in glass and backgrounds, etc. I love piecing things together alongside or just ahead of the main character and getting to watch it unfold and develop

The prosthetics were disturbing and gave him a creepy vibe, but he was truly terrifying in the interrogation scene when he lowers his head and has that evil look in his eyes. The way the movie was shot reminded me a lot of analog horror. I really loved it overall, haven't squirmed that much watching a movie in a long time. There's this constant sense of unease, being watched or unsafe through it all. I will say the big twist reveal felt a little odd, but I think on a rewatch I'll see the pieces that make it clearer. My favorite part was playing with the aspect ratio, I wish that had been utilized more. Like more fast cutting between the two or changing it up by having a present scene in the smaller ratio and past scene with the larger just to throw people off.

Yay! Leave it to my "arthouse horror" loving brother from another mother to be totally onboard with the brilliant exercise in creepiness that this film is! I've seen some not so great takes from people ever since i watched it and started seeking out reviews to watch...was sad that some didn't get the enjoyment that i did, but what you said is true about setting up misleading expectations...the comparisons to Silence of the Lambs are in reality, surface at best. This is a VERY different film and i was there for it and can't wait to see it again! And just a quick note on Maika's character is that i think the way she was acting was completely intentional due to her character's particular circumstances. I will just say that so as not to get into spoilers. Also, must recommend an analysis video that i ran across that i think absolutely nails the reason this film, (and some others) are not resonating with some people. It's by a user named Cool Channel DreadTube and the title is The Weaponized Creepiness of LONGLEGS. I'd post a link, but KZfaq usually hates that...

I dont know, I just saw the movie and I walked away feeling underwhelmed a bit. Many question still unanswered and Im not saying that in a good way. The biggest one is how was Longlegs chosen to do the work he was doing, backstory wouldve been great. And, so, why did the mom choose to destroy the doll of Lee now and what purpose did it serve. Her mom wont live forever, so who would've taken over handing out the dolls, Lee? Is this what happened to Longlegs in the past and now that he's dead, who makes the dolls now?, That doll in the end still exists and possessed. I didnt understand that whole something about the 13th? and who was that guy who shot the FBI trainee in the beginning? Was he on the run from killing his family, if thats true, weird how that one is very different from the rest.

I feel like the less we know about longlegs the better, so I was really happy we didn’t get a backstory there. I think it would’ve dragged things down. And I’d have to watch again to be sure, but I think that her mom destroyed lee’s doll because with longlegs being dead, that meant the killings were nearly over. The 13th being the last piece of the whole thing. The doll made Lee forget about everything that happened so that’s why after she shot it, we finally learn everything that’s been going on. The point was never to keep making dolls forever. That’s why longlegs killed himself. They just wanted to complete the triangle thing. Now what was that for? Idk that part kinda went over my head. I do feel like something was missing from the very end but maybe they wanted to keep things open idk
@Xynth25
@Xynth25 Ай бұрын
@@thestrokes241 the triangle pattern is the sigil of the demon Longlegs was calling upon. I'm not up on if that was specifically the Devil's sigil or not, but that's the pattern Harker found, you see her comparing a sigil in a book to the lines she traced. The kills were happening at some point between 6 days before and 6 days after the daughter's birthday on the 14th in a way that maps out that sigil. The whole thing is a ritual to call upon or empower a demon, not just kills using demonic power.

One thing I've been noticing is how DIVIDED opinions are, regarding this film. It's still mostly positive reviews, but it's been a minute since I've seen so many takes that directly contradict each other like this. "It gives too much away/it's too vague" "It's truly terrifying/It bored me to tears" "Lee Harker was perfect/Agent Harker was flat" "It perfectly sticks the landing/It completely falls off in the third act" "Finally something original/It's a ripoff that doesn't know what it wants to be" That's really interesting to me. I'll get to see it next week on Wednesday, so I'll have to avoid spoilers a bit longer than most of y'all, but as of now, everything points to this being exactly to my taste. I'm super excited. Guess it depends on what the viewer focused on. The group I went to see it with mostly didn’t like it cause they were expecting the “scariest movie of the decade”. I thought it wasn’t scary but tossed it into the bucket of Seven/Zodiac/Prisoners with a much slower pace and that weird unsettling A24 vibe to it. @@ienjoicomics101From what I've gathered, it looks like personal preference plays a massive role with this film. It looks like this is gonna be one of those cases where many factors just end up aligning rather well with mine. For example: I love Se7en but, putting any attempts at objectivity aside, I'm such an atmosphere/setting nerd that even though Se7en "does it better", I still might end up enjoying the EXPERIENCE of watching a worse film more, if the setting is more appealing to me. Same goes for Characters, Plotpoints and so on. You could say, the vibes are my #1 concern when it comes to fiction. (Not that there's anything wrong with Se7en, it was just an example)

Yeah I was disappointed after watching it. Just way too much left to the imagination which was more frustrating than intriguing. I don’t mind a little mystery but literally everything about the film didn’t make sense, even after the exposition dump.

@@ienjoicomics101 Same here. Went with a group and not one of us were ever scared at any point in the movie. Harker's house was very creepy, and they do one small scene there, which was far more unsettling in the trailer. Then there is the scene where the girl is at the counter and Longlegs does the little hand over the eyes routine. That scene was advertised in the trailers and made to look horrifying, when reality, the girl isn't even scared herself and just calls her dad about the weirdo being back again. So disappointing!

as a christian girlie, i was so invested. i thought it was terrifying. i went in COMPLETELY blind - i didn’t even know it had religious themes! i got the references IMMEDIATELY, and as the movie went on, the more i thought “this is the perfect christian horror.” as christians, we believe that satan is present on this earth, and the way he operates is not by killing anyone directly, but chipping away at their soul. their sense of self, view of others, loss. it was incredibly bone chilling and heart wrenching to see this kind of view many christians have of the devil, presented in this horrific way.

You are right about the dark cinemaphotogrhy, especially during the first half, the soundscape was unnerving, it wasn't disturbing but definitely unnerving. Didn't have a problem with Monroe's performance, her character was damn near catatonic and with good reason as we discover. And Cage, this guy should get an award nomination at least. Cage is great. Loved him in Renfield. At any rate, as usual, your review is right on.

Uncanny is the perfect word to describe the movie. There’s something so seemingly off about it right from the get go with our main protagonist. Lookin forward to your hush video, that’s a great horror thriller that needs more lovd

Movie wasn’t as groundbreaking as people were saying it was, but it was good. Hereditary and Sinister still stand above it by a wide margin as my personal benchmark for the best that the horror genre has to offer.

Please do The Exorcism next, please! I thought I was going to see The Popes Exorcist 2.0 & boy-o-boy was I pleasantly incorrect. This film blew me away with the brutality of the script and the unexpected story, when the director cuts for the second time and gives "Tony" notes I audibly said "holy fucking shit". also great casting, really good supporting young talent.

SPOILER: I really think that Cobble is the main character’s dad. When she sees the inverted triangle image in the beginning the word that she thinks of is father, and soon after that they say she’s “half-psychic”, which was partly a joke but also could be hinting one of her parents had weird magical powers but the other didn’t. They never mention her father in the movie. It could also explain why Cobble is so obsessed with her, and why he chose her to be the first one to receive a doll. I think the reason he targets families with a daughter born on the 14th is because he has a daughter born on the 14th and knows that they will never have a “normal family”, so he goes out killing those that do. It also explains how she was kind of chosen to be protected from all this. Just a theory though
