I can't wait until I can get one of these in a year or two, fantastic instrument! I really hope keytars are making a comeback tbh, or at least enough of a comeback that I'll still be able to find a good quality one like this a few years down the road.

I have an AX Edge that I use to fill in bass for my band at church when our bassist is out. I love it! But I feel like I have soooo much to learn; this instrument is capable of SO. MANY. THINGS!

It really is! Sadly keytars in general are looked at as kind of gimmicky or a novelty, but we're glad to know that you've realized how amazing and flexible the instrument is!

I keep forgetting that Edge is equipped with gentle after touch. That’s one of his many awesome features that I didn’t take stock in when it went on the market.

That’s my keytar, I bought it from Long and McQuade after seeing this video, they told me it was from the inspiration center. It has a lot more pink foil on it these days 😂

Hi Dustin and thanks for the demo. I am seriously planning to buy one. Question... The hold button that you use at 6:03, can you hold a sound, and then lay a totally different sound on top of that first sound? Thank you.

I have been playing AX Edge for a while, my band and I use it, I mostly play it, but everyone has a chance. We have a Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums and then keyboard or Keytar

Great keyboard. But instead of buying an AX, I had saved me about 1,000 dollars by taking one of my regular lighter horizontal keyboards, attached a guitar strap to it, and held it and played it like an AX. Same thing. I even created an upright stand for it, and mounted it on the stand vertically, like an upright base or cello while sitting. The AX is super, but a novelty way of playing a regular horizontal keyboard like a guitar.

The power switch is on the back of the unit. Yes you will need a patch cable going from the AX-Edge to an amplifier (or a pair of headphones) in order to hear it, but it's not required to be able to turn it on.

No, both the AX-Synth and the AX-Edge have a built-in sound engine that cannot be uploaded or downloaded to or from either unit.

Active speakers. There's no amplifier built into the AX-Edge (or most keytars or keyboards).

Yes. You can assign a different keyboard range to each of the 4 parts, or for more deep editing, each of the 4 partials within those parts. The keyboard range for parts can be set in the Program Sound menu, while the deeper editing of each partial can be done on the AX-EDGE Editor APP.

The sound you hear in this video is taken directly from the AX-Edge into our recorder (Zoom H6). We are not recording an amp, although Dustin is using a small amp to monitor his playing, but it's not being heard in this video.

It cannot accept MP3 or WAVs as samples to perform with, but it does accept MP3 and WAVs to playback and play along to using the internal sounds. On Page 13 of the AX-Edge manual: You can copy an audio file (MP3 or WAV) from your computer to a USB flash drive, and perform on the AX-Edge while that audio file plays back. Audio files that can be played: MP3 Format: MPEG-1 audio layer 3 Sampling Frequency: 48 kHz Bit rate: 32/40/48/56/64/80/96/112/128/160/192/224/ 256/320 kbps, VBR (Variable Bit Rate) WAV Sampling Frequency: 48 kHz Bit Depth: 16/24-bit * For both MP3 and WAV, the only sampling frequency supported is 48 kHz. If your file has a sampling frequency of other than 48 kHz, use software on your computer to convert it to 48 kHz beforehand.

The sounds are built-in, as in it doesn't require a sound module or VSTi to produce sound. But you do need to be connected to an amp or headphones to hear the sounds. There is no built-in speaker.

For the sake of this video, the output of the keytar was split. One signal went to an amp for monitoring, and one signal went into our recorder. Yes, it can be connected to an amp or powered speaker.

The AX-Edge is about 9lbs. The average weight of a Fender P-Bass (for example) is 8 - 9lbs. So pretty much the same weight!

No, not built in. It has 1/4" outputs to connect to an external amp and a headphone output.

It can operate on its own as it's a full-on synthesizer. The sounds are built into the instrument itself. No external module or VSTi was used for this video.

You could, as in there would be little risk of damage, because bass amps are usually designed to handle the full frequency spectrum. The voicing might be a bit bass-heavy though. With some tweaking of the EQ, it'd work, just not ideal.
